I’m sitting here, way too late, doing a first past thru the pics I took while away this weekend (traversing NY for snow & ice) when an email pops up - “Transaction receipt from <something running related>” Is it a scam email of some type? Is it a belated receipt from one of the races that I did this weekend? Nope, I know who I registered thru for them. Open it up & it’s the CC receipt from a race lottery that I entered. I was sweating this one out a bit more than other years as it’s a big year for me; my 10th time doing this race which means I don’t need to sweat it out anymore! As a 10-year participant, I’m now grandfathered in! As long as I apply, I get in.
Every first Sun in May, I get to join 40,000+ running buds for a trek down Broad St.
In other news, it’s a wonderful Spring day - full team reports for Spring Training!
Pre-hijack question of the week: What have you done for a long time?
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 65 Amurrkin out and cloudy (dark) with a predicted “high” of 62 for the day. Also ‘tis been rainyish off and on overnight. Today is spiff da cave day. Tonight is men’s night over to the church house so steaks are marinatin’ and beer is chillin’. Always a good time.
I don’t have any particular event I have done for a long time anymore. For about twenty years, I always took a vacation the same week in July to go meet up with some friends. We no longer do that and haven’t for ten years. I still communicate with 'em and get to see some of 'em throughout the year but no more annual thing.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.
Good morning! Roxy woke me around 4 or so, but I lazed around till 6-ish. I’m now in the office. Lots to do, but I’m hoping to make it a short day, leaving some stuff for the rest of the week.
My longest-lasting hobby-like activity is knitting and crocheting. One of my mom’s friends taught me to knit when I was in Jr high. Then I taught myself to crochet, and I’ve learned lots of different stitches and patterns from books. I still have the first afghan I ever made - it was an exercise in not reading the pattern correctly and not buying enough yarn. Plus it’s a mix of wool and acrylic, so it shrunk weirdly. But Higgs likes it - it’s been a dog afghan for at least 5 dogs over the years.
OK, time to get some work done. Happy soggy Moanday!
doggio, thanks, I’ll leave about 0700 so I hit Nashvlile about 0900, when hopefully the rush hour traffic will be at their offices. Looks like a good driving day, cool to cold but clear.
Spidey, congrats on the acceptance and being ‘grandfathered’ in. You plan to do this race until your are a grandfather, right?
Done for a long time? Hmmm. Not counting the routine stuff I do daily/weekly/monthly, like shopping/cleaning/etc., I’ve coached youth soccer steadily since 2003 (and off and on since 1978).
I feel like hell. I went to bed early at 9:30, woke at 1:30, and didn’t fall back to sleep until after 6, only to be awakened by the alarm at 6:30.
I foresee a nap after irk, but I really don’t have time to nap.
Home early, as I went in very early. We had a big breakfast thing for the library staff, and the library is otherwise closed today. So only seven and a half hours.
My sister called last night, she is home now, she and my BIL having made the trip from Colorado in just a day. She managed to endure the discomfort as she really wanted to rest in her own home.
It is only eighteen degrees even now. Tomorrow we are supposed to get more snow. Blurf
Hubby can’t get an appointment until Firday. Of course, this is not life threarening just aggravating as it does not feel normal to him.
I have laundry running and have cleaned the kitchen. I don’t know what else I shall get into today. I need to clean out and organize the linen closet as I have new towels with no room for them but there is plenty of stuff in there that can go bye bye. So; I guess I shall work on the linen closet and wash the new towels.
Glad Sis is home Cupcakes. There’s no place like home.
Way too many things. One thing that seems genetic in my family over the generations is that we show up reliably for EVERYTHING. I write it off to our nomadic days when showing up every year is the way you scored the good hunting and forage. I’ve been a volunteer instructor for the PAGC for more than 35 years, I’ve run the Cook Forest event for 17 years, I’ve participated in some colonial events for more than 40 years year in and year out. And I’m married ------ at least my wife tells me. I think what I enjoy is seeing new faces come along over the years of doing the same things and seeing them grow. The one motorcycle rally started with maybe 60 of us at the one dealership parking lot; last year it was like 10k people and maybe 5k of bikes. Seeing stuff like that just hits my fun-nerve for some reason
I’m a long-time sewer. (As in someone who sews, not as in a pipe carrying sewage.) I do some needlepoint, but I like to make things with the sewing machine. I made a cool table cloth recently, I made almost all of the curtains in my house (with the exception of the large window in the living room and the matching drapes in the dining room). I like to make simple clothing, purses, etc. I’m by no means extraordinarily skilled, but I sewing things.
More and more and more at irk… I have instructions to write, but no subject matter experts to tell me how to do these things. I’m a writer, not an engineer. Give me rough idea as to what to do, I can fill in the blanks, format it, add safety warnings, all that jazz.
Finished irk, made lunch for everybody except the cat. He’s picky so no sense in making anything for him.
My son wants some help with an ethics assignment. He turned in his assignment but now he has to respond to two classmates.
I wish there was a way to block certain people in the class, there is one woman who is so annoying. For the introduction assignment they had to write at least 400 words about themselves. My son struggles to come up with that much stuff, and it appears that most of his classmates do as well. Not this woman, she wrote a damn essay. They had to respond to two classmates, she responded to about six. People she has taken classes with before.
Okay, all cool, except now they are into real classwork. She writes a damn essay again, and responds to many people, but it’s not classwork related responses. She treats the message board like a damn social club. I hope the professor smacks her down for it.
oops - that musta been Freudian - I meant BABY engineers, tho, frankly I wouldn’t have considered them babes… well, one of them is kinda cute, but the other is tall, skinny, and geeky, definitely not a babe.
Anyway, I’m home. Gotta decide what we’re having for supper. PB&J??
wow I live in ca ….and sometimes I sleep in til 10 or 11 ……some of yall go to work and back before I even get up in the morning …… haven’t been outside yet but it feels cold and its supposed ot be like yesterday sometimes clear and sometimes dark and rainy… all in the same hour …
Howdy Y’all! Da cave is spiffed and in just a little while I shall head over to the church house for men’s night and to take care of a couple of things JW wise. One thing that I had problems figurin’ out was where to order a certain type of wood floor cleaner. Finally learned that Home Despot carries said wood floor cleaner, so yay for that.
CupCakes yay for sis gettin’ home. Home is the best place to recuperate.
MetalMouse you’re on the road I reckon, but safe travels there and back. Glad you’re goin’ to check on the bro.
Flytrap The ethics of helpin’ someone with a paper on ethics would make a good study. I suggest you apply for a grant.
Juliet this is teh intartoobz. No one knows if you’re a sewer on teh intartoobz.
MOOOOOOM FTR, I’ve know a few geeky men I considered babes.
