Every time he makes a comment on your personal appearance or an unjustified criticism of your work or slights you in any way, just take out a notebook in front of him & jot it down.
Hopefully, he’ll be walking on eggshells around you, tho he may also be on the lookout for actual things to critique.
You could take out a guitar, or have a guitar player with you and when he makes that comment sing the entire Johnny Cash song “The man in black” with “man” changed to “girl.” Better yet, a whole Mariachi band.
(not serious obviously.)
Since we’re moving into the territorry of not-serious replies, how about this. Carry around a small tape recorder with a tape of some cheesy sitcom laugh track. Have it in hand when you walk in the door. When he makes his hysterical “girl in black” remark, hit play.
Seriously though, it’s been said here already that your best bet is not to react when he’s a jerk to you. That’s tough to do, I know. But it sounds like the guy gets his jollies by pushing your buttons and seeing what happens. If nothing happens, day after day, he’ll either up the ante by getting more blatantly abusive or he may start losing interest in trying. Meanwhile, quietly keep a log of his comments and a list of witnesses.
I agree with phouka here; if it’s true that admin is currently keeping an eye on the guy, now is the time to file a complaint.
Is this the guy who was touching women who weren’t complaining about it, for whatever reason? I know nothing whatever about Canadian law or business practices, but in the States that constitues creating a hostile work environment. If watching him hit on subordinants makes you uncomfortable, that’s reportable. It’s a relatively recent addition to the laws, though, so most people still think that they have to be the one being hit on before they can complain.
You have my sympathy. Hope the rest of your co-workers are nice.
