Looking back – how history will interpret the MMP

LiLi I’m so sorry about your parents’ dog. Like you said though, he had a great life and was loved. Now they can focus on spoilin’ Nat rotten like good grandparents.

BBBobbio glad the PSA came back ok. I nag/fuss/gripe at friends constantly about keepin’ a watch on that. Oh and the email…   Oh yeah, that one is bein’ shared far and wide.

Bye Beebs have fun!

SmartiePants sorry about the doggy incident. Like others said, you did all you could.

I’m through workin’ and it’s officially my weekend. YAY!!! Supper tonight shall be grilled tbone steaks, baked N.O.T. and sallit. Think I’ll do some garlic cheese bread to go along with. I might even get industrious and make a dessert. Maybe a peach cobbler. Ol’ y’all know who is extremely fond of peach cobbler. Plus I got good 'niller ice cream to go on top.

I should get started on my yard project. Maybe. Maybe not. Plans are to yank up all the shrubbery type stuff in front of da cave cause I’ve decided I hate it all. I actually have somebody lined up to take all the big bushes and plant 'em at their place cause they want some bigger stuff. That makes it all win-win. I get rid of 'em and somebody that wants 'em gets 'em. I envision planting boxwoods (a low growth variety I found) in place of what I yank up. Plus, I have a sago palm which resides in a big pot right now that will look good in front of the dining room window. The only things I am keeping are a cedar tree (kept trimmed back) and a holly bush (tree, actually but kept trimmed to bush size) that are on either ends of da cave cause they look good. Plus, the holly hides all the electrical stuff on the side of da cave. Aesthetics are everything you know. This will either end up looking good or be cause for the neighbors to run me outta da hood.

-swampbear (seein’ how many  's I can put in one post)

Since I have your approval, I’ll post a broken link in the MMP later.

Jake! Just make sure you accompany it with a big ol’ NSFW cause it’s definitely a big ol’ NSFW

Yay! Glad it turned out well!

I haven’t even had coffee yet, and already I’m so furious my hands are shaking. Cloud Maiden sent me an email accusing me of treating her like a doormat and refusing to pay next month’s rent.

 :dubious:

The doormat part stems from my flippant refusal to consider replacing her with New England Gentleman (she’s working in NY right now, but still paying the rent for our apartment, obviously, since our lease isn’t up). First off, she never discussed the topic with me seriously. She asked if I’d be willing to live with NE Gentleman, I said haha, no, he’d probably molest my bare feet while I was sleeping, and I’d rather find a roommate off craigslist. Then she dropped the subject. In her email she accused me of not wanting to live with him simply to spite her. What. The Fuck? If she’d ever asked me seriously, I would have told her that I had the opportunity to have him as a roommate in the past and turned it down then as well - I love NE Gentleman, but I’d go insane living with him. And if she really wanted to get a replacement roommate, I would have been more than willing to interview people off of craigslist or our graduate student email listing. She never even asked! And now she has the GALL to accuse me of trying to “mow her over”!

She doesn’t even’t apologize for refusing to pay the rent next month. Clearly my tyranny justifies her irresponsibility.

The thing that really gets me is that I have much more cause for complaint. She nearly lost us the apartment because she was out of town when the lease was being signed and refused to keep in touch with me (or send the money on time). She moved in almost a month after I did, so I got stuck with cleaning the apartment (which was FILTHY) and buying basic supplies (which cost me a lot of money, considering my slender earnings at the time). I’ve ALWAYS been the one having to contact the landlord when things break or go wrong. And now that we’re moving out, again I am stuck with the labor of packing and cleaning out the place by myself. Not to mention the effort of finding someone to take over the lease - yes, that’s all my job, apparently. I never, not once, even thought to be resentful about any of this, until now. And SHE accuses ME of taking advantage of her!!

I’m so stressed out right now. I can’t afford to pay the full rent on this place! And the last thing I want to do is ask my parents for money AGAIN. Fuck.

Well that just sucks, Haze. I’m all pissed off for you! Somebody needs to bitch-slap that woman and teach her to grow up!

Hmmmph.

smarty, how horrible for you! :frowning:

li-li, sorry about your folk’s pup, too. :frowning: Must be the week for it. My sister, BarbeeDoll[sup]TM[/sup] called to tell me last night that Charlie, the family’s beloved Lab, had to be put down yesterday. He was 16. :frowning:

**WARNING!! **

Sagos are highly poisonous, particularly the seeds. I know this because my chihuahua, Isa, chewed a seed and nearly died. In fact, four out of five dogs that ingest the seeds do not survive. The poison attacks the liver. Isa made it because she went to the emergency vet within an hour of chewing on a seed and was given an experimental injection along with the standard treatment for that type of poisoning. So keep an eye on Joe Dawg around that plant. We dug our up and gave it away.

rosie, lovely song!

Congrats on the gland, bobbio.

Sounds like you are basically screwed, haze. I’m guessing cm got in over her head and has been looking for some way to renig. If you are leaving anyway, just let the landlord know that you will have to pay when you get the money. It’s not like he’ll hunt you down in Korea.

Am now hongry and must eat lunch. Later all.

Tupug

Haze, if you want to go and give her a good slapping, I have some wet fish you could borrow.

What a bitch. Haze, I’m so sorry. She’s been a problem to live with since day 1.
Thanks for the sympathy. Mum and Dad came over to visit this morning. I hope they come visit their grandson all the time. I also hope they do consider getting a cat. They (in theory) take less work than dogs, and we’d probably be willing to adopt it later if they needed to pass it on. I’ll talk to Mr. Lissar about it and maybe mention it in a few weeks.
Right. I should clean the kitchen. The baby’s asleep. Right. Full of enthusiasm. Right.

{{Li-li}} – it’s always hard to say goodbye to a pet. Especially one who “didn’t have a full life,” so to speak… 8 years is kind of young, even for a large dog :frowning:

**Haze **-- try and look at it his way: You’ve learned a valuable lesson about someone you thought was a real friend. It’s unfortunate that you’re paying a steep tuition for this lesson, but know you know… and it could have been even worse.
That said… hell, yes, I’d be furious too  Sometimes, life – and the people in it – suck :frowning:

**Swampy **and **Bobbio **-- don’t leave us hangin’, here! Also, glad your PSA was OK, Bob

**Muppet **-- you and me both… Except my work-crazies probably extend through the end of June. Blrrgg.

Hi Boo, GT, Cutie!

skimskimskim

Short day. Did not drink today due to need to take Benadryl. Made two apple crumble pies last night (pie shell bottom, crumble top). Took one to Adopted Parents to thank them for helping me out with the fridge issue. Ate other pie (N.O.P). Is good pie. Will not bring when come back.

Damn Benadryl stealing pronouns and ability to stay vertical.

And ability to remember to leave {{{{{Li-Li}}}}}

Nooner, didn’t you just go on vacation a couple of weeks ago? My, how easily they forget.

The Boy and I are thinking NYC in Sept/Oct or thereabouts. I’ll probably see if I can do something solo or with girlfriends sooner than that, because I’m gonna lose my marbles if I don’t take time off until the fall.

Is it Quit O’Clock yet? Aaargh.

Special1 I’m sure BBBobbio will be along with the broken link shortly.

Puggy I have four sagos in the backyard that JoeDawg has never bothered. My guess on that is that they are planted around the pool which he views as a big bath tub and won’t go near. Seriously he gives the pool a wiiiiiiiiiiiiiide berth. This one is bein’ planted in the front yard and he never goes in the front yard.

Speakin’ of JoeDawg, I get to be his nanny week after next whilst his daddy goes to Flarduh for the week. Yep. JoeDawg will have to endure a week of strict nanny discipline from me, poor thing.

ETA: Haze sorry about your troubles with CM. Like Special1 said, sometimes we learn who true friends are the hard way. She ain’t worth bein’ all angry and shaky over, ok?

I’ve only gotten through page 5, but I wanted to post before I forgot.

This made me think of a curry potato recipe that **Magic Eye **posted here WAAAAAAY back when. They’re really really really good. You might have to go to a specialty spice shop to find the Sichuan peppercorns, but it’s worth it! They have a totally different flavor, so don’t be tempted to just substitute black peppercorns.

Tibetian Curry Potatoes

1/2 teaspoon Sichuan peppercorns
1 2-inch long piece of fresh ginger, peeled and finely minced
3 or 4 cloves of garlic, peeled and finely minced
1 tsp turmeric
1 tsp cayenne (or other fiery pepper)
1 tsp salt
4 Tbsp (1/2 stick) clarified butter (see note or buy ghee from an Indian grocery stor)
6 medium Yukon Gold or Red Bliss potatoes, peeled
2 Tbsp soy sauce

Garnish:
1 scallion, including the green part, trimmed and minced
Several sprigs of fresh cilantro, minced

Boil the peeled potatoes for 15 minutes, then cut into cubes.

Heat the peppercorns in a small, ungreased skillet over medium heat until they begin to darken and release their aroma. Turn them into a small mortar or onto a chopping board and pulverize to a coarse powder.

Mix the pepper powder, ginger, garlic, turmeric, cayenne and salt together to form a paste. Heat the clarified butter in a large skillet and blend in the spices. Cook and stir for a few minutes, to let the butter become fully seasoned. Meanwhile, toss the potato cubes in the soy sauce until it has all been absorbed.

Add the potatoes to the skillet and turn up the heat to medium high. Cook until the potatoes have a crunchy brown coating on the outside and a meltingly soft interior. Use a spatula to turn them constantly so that they brown on all sides, about 10 to 15 minutes.

Add the minced scallion and cilantro and cook for a minute to allow the garnish to wilt and cling to the potatoes.

NOTE: To make clarifed butter, put the butter in a heatproof measuring cup and set it on the rack in a preheated warm oven. When the butter has melted and the solids have separated out, remove the measuring cup from the oven and carefully pour off the clear liquid into the skillet. Discard the solids.

Yay, Firday finally!

BBBobbio, yes, I heard from my cousin and all the family in the area of Suffolk are all okay, fortunately. Tornadoes are very dangerous things.

[[[[[Haze]]]]], so sorry that CloudMaiden is being so bad. :frowning: Hugs and condolences for LiLi’s parents, too.

Ooh, Taxi, that curry potato recipe sounds divine! I may try it out this weekend. I still want to try out the infamous Lesbian Gingerbread too. LOL

I’m drinking -a lot- of water (lol keep a clear pathway to the bathroom!) and have got plenty of sugar-free candy and gum for the weekend and beyond.

Oh yeah, and hang in there, FCM, although you probably won’t see this until next week some time. Many hugs to you and FCD and congratulations to your daughter.

Again, so very glad today is Firday.

Can I brag? I got all of this plus a bottle of shampoo, a 12 pack of toilet paper, and a bottle of Windex for $18.87. I love sales and coupons…

**LiLi ** sorry about the dog. :frowning: That is so sad. Hopefully they will consider a cat.

**Haze ** that sucks. :frowning: I hope she will end up paying the rent.

Everyone else, hugs, yays, boos, and gropes as appropriate (or inappropriate.)

They do, but then that whole nation is your friend!

I think I’m going to make this cake for a get together with some friends next week. It looks amazing!

MCUNE may I say how proud I am you remembered to buy tp?

taxi that is one droolworthy cake!

I made an executive decision regarding N.O.T. for supper tonight. Instead of bakin’ 'em I did my microwave version which is to wit:

Some N.O.T. peeled and sliced.
A couple of onions peeled and sliced.
Some butter (deal!)
Worcestershire Sauce AKA Whazzizhere sauce
Salt and pepper to taste

In a microwave proof dish, begin with a layer of N.O.T., then a layer of onions. Sprinkle on a little salt and pepper and whazzizhere sauce. Then another layer of N.O.T. and onions, a little more salt and pepper and whazzizhere sauce. Glop some pats of butter on top. How much I leave to you, I don’t judge. Cover with plastic wrap and zap about 20 minutes on high. The N.O.T. and onions should be fork tender. If they ain’t, zap a few minutes more. You might need a little less than twenty minutes or a little more than twenty minutes. I have no idea what your microwave does so it’s up to you to do it right. You’re all adults. Yes, even you. You’re an adult too!

Serve with a generous glop of sour cream.

If you must you can also bake ‘em in the oven. Just leave off the plastic wrap (duh!) and bake for about forty minutes at around 325 Amurrkin. Again you may need a little more or a little less time dependin’ on your oven. See adult comments above.

Also, I made a ‘nanner puddin’ for dessert. Just cause. Well, I needed to use up those 'nanners and I had everything else I needed, so, voila, ‘nanner puddin’.

Right now we’re full of steak, sallit, bread and microwave N.O.T.. ‘Nanner puddin’ eatin’ will commence a little later.

Belated condolences for your parents, LiLi. Sorry; I must’ve overlooked that post. :smack:

That Guy came over and I vented all my rage on him, which he cheerfully accepted. It’s nice to be able to just sit and be lazy together. We didn’t talk much about the future, other than a bit about the logistics of a fiancee visa and what it would cost us. A fiancee visa would mean he wouldn’t have to come to Korea, necessarily, but he said he wanted to anyway, which pleased me immensely.

taxi, that cake is made of SIN. I can tell just by looking at the picture.

Sorry about your parents’ dog, LiLi. :frowning: I like the “cat and Nat” strategy for filling the hole in their lives, though.

Sorry about the whole Cloud Maiden unpleasantness, Haze. Nice to hear you sounding so much less stressed about That Guy, though.

All the N.O.T. recipes sound yummy.

Can someone remind me why I bought frozen raspberries? I must have had a reason. Ooooh…didn’t we talk about making raspberry jam with frozen raspberries at one point? Or maybe it was a conversation with FarAway Best Friend. Her MIL makes excellent jam. (I’ve been trying to eat my way through the freezer because I want to make sure I’m planning meals better. I tend to overstock and then forget I have stuff. I just had some lasagna; I’d totally forgotten it was there.

Need to clean up and make sure I have stuff I’m taking for tomorrow’s plant sale. (Not plants, just rain gear and stuff we need for when we go plant shopping next week; I want to make sure it’s at the park in case something unforeseen happens and I’m late or can’t make it or something.)

Hugs to all…

GT

GT, you don’t NEED a reason to buy frozen raspberries! :stuck_out_tongue:

The Pioneer Woman’s #2 recipe for blackberry crumble works well with any kind of berry, and is absolutely lovely.
