Looks good....

It’s ok, the Mexicans are paying for it.

Do you guys know that your browser has a text resize function? Holding control and using the scroll wheel resizes text.

I think some of the people pleased with these changes simply were not using that function. To those of us who already found a good text size to element size ratio this just makes it unfixably ugly.

Yeah, I’m now seeing a bunch of ads where I never did before. I’m not crazy about the overall look, but I imagine it’s just a matter of getting used to it. But the ads, well, no!

Lets keep in mind, however, that this bug/feature was discovered within an hour or so of the new format going live. The reason given for the short edit window was because of the ‘fast moving discussions’ and that was a perfect example of one.
If it happened that quickly, it’s going to become an annoyance fairly quickly, especially given how many people edit their posts when trying to keep up with a conversation. I know I do.

What, I have to resize text every time I come to a Dope page, and then resize back on every other page afterwards? Fuck that noise. Plus if I resize so the post texts are sensibly-sized, quoted text becomes too tiny to read.
How about geriatric mobile users with vision issues learn to use dedicated board software rather than their browsers, instead?

Chrome does per-site text resizing, I think.

And I wasn’t directing my comment towards people who don’t like the new look. I was trying to be helpful to people who seem to like the new look simply because it looks like windows safe mode or Baby’s First Bulletin Board and thought it was an improvement because things were bigger - I thought they might not know about text resizing.

I see that now - sorry if I came across as unnecessarily abrasive, there. Clearly this new look has me all riled up

Yeah, and the text in quote boxes is smaller than the text outside of them. So you’re stuck with one being too big, or the other being too small.

The text on the forum pages is smaller too. Zoom out to 90%, and the thread titles on the forum pages are downright minuscule.

Hmm, people complaining about giant font size. I’m getting the opposite on classic Opera. Too small a font. I hate playing with zoom levels. Too many things get messed up.

And since this is my first reply since the change, I now see the reply box is incredibly narrow*. Less than a third of the width of the screen. What the what? It used to be basically full width. No reason at all for it to be so narrow.

Also: quoted text is now italicized. Um, it shouldn’t be changed at all. That’s board rules for a reason.

  • I see this narrow column look on too many websites today. Even for phones and such that’s not the websites call. That’s the browser’s job. If you’re tweaking basically what is a single column width at the server end, you’re doing it wrong.

Hey, I didn’t even know I had a signature! I must correct that!

Check your editor setting. Upper right corner of the reply box are 2 "A"s (set like a fraction), you switch editor mode there.

Horrendous. I feel like I’m trapped in a giant, never-ending Greek flag.

Also, on a real computer’s screen, the text is too small in the forum menu, and too big in the posts. I could get used to that, but please do something about the navy blue bars!

Looks like a way to make sure that ads aren’t blocked. Ok. I understand that. If I’m not paying, then I’m seeing ads. But can they at least not be the same ad, every 5 posts? I really don’t want a Google tablet, and that’s not going to change in 5 more posts.

You can manually block the ads, it’s for a device that’s no longer produced, and seems to be a placeholder ad. How that slipped past TPTB, I have no idea.

Firefox does (but no telling how long that will last past Firefox 57). Chrome just has full page zoom, unless you install an addon that only sorta works (and causes the text to “jump” to the changed size every time the page loads.)

That said, I use exactly such an extension: NoSquint Plus for Chrome. I currently have my screen at 125% real zoom and 120% text zoom. (My monitor is about 3 feet away from my face.)

It might be a change for the better, but I’m not particularly happy about the fact that it defaults to showing my .sig line. I kinda liked not having to think about that. Can this be turned off?

Changes? There were changes?

We demand Grexit!

Unfortunately, trying to just copy back the theme from the old version doesn’t quite work. The actual layout has changed. For example, he reason for those blue bars on every post is that they are now the same class as, say, the Quick Reply header. And a lot of the old CSS just doesn’t apply at all, the stuff on top completely unstyled. It’s not pretty.

It seems easier just to try and tweak the new style than to use the old directly. But I’m not 100% sure how much time I plan to devote to this. And it would be wasted if the TPTB fix some of this up. So I’ll probably just do minor stuff, for now at least.

(They really should have allowed the regular users to see the test board, even if they couldn’t log in.)
