Here’s a plot summary:
Ethan was a young man taking care of his mother until she died. Ethan was afraid of being alone during that winter so he married his mother’s nurse Zeena, who was an older woman. They had planned to move to a big city and start a new life. Lack of fertile land and enough money prevented their dreams from coming true. Zeena became sick and Ethan realized he was never getting out of Starkfield. After a while, Zeena stopped complaining because Ethan stopped listening. Their house became silent and cold. All of that changed when Mattie, Zeena’s cousin comes to stay with them. She is a young, vibrant woman who brings life to the house. Ethan ends up falling in love with her. She offers the warm qualities of a relationship that Zeena never showed. Ethan does Mattie’s chores around the house for her and sneaks extra time with her. Ethan found a companion who showed interest in him. It was almost like a childhood crush. Zeena is very suspicious of their relationship. The last straw was when Mattie broke the pickle dish while Zeena was away. This was significant because the pickle dish had never been used because it was the nicest thing they owned. Zeena gets rid of Mattie with the excuse that she needs a new nurse and they can’t afford to keep both girls. Mattie has no place to go. Ethan stands up to Zeena and insists that he take her to the train. On the way to the train they stop to sleigh ride down a hill. After doing so, Mattie decides that they should commit suicide together that so they would never have to be alone. They attempt to commit suicide by sleighing into a tree. They are unsuccessful but both end up with permanent physical injuries. They end up all living together miserably with Zeena taking care of them.

It took so long for Sayid to get back to the caves… do you think he was delayed by an encounter with the Others? What was wrong with his leg? Was it injured when he left the French woman’s hut? I forget half of the last episode already!
And Ethan might not be this “Alex”, either. Maybe he’s one of the Others himself. Why would he want to hurt the baby? Or take the baby?
Actually, I’m not sure if they (I’ll just use “they” to include her nighttime attacker and Ethan the weirdo alleged kidnapper, in case they’re 2 different people) want to kill the baby or take the baby. When she was first attacked, I thought it was someone slicing her open to get at the baby.
Notice how when Locke answered Hurley’s question about whether he found what he was looking for, he looked up into the distance, and said “it found me”? I think he’s talking about THE BEAST!
Trion, I thought that too about Ethan’s name… what would the significance be?
I think the line was “I KICKED drugs.”
That would be “I kicked drugs”, as in he used to be a drug addict, and kicked the habit.
The first…he did say he was from Ontario, right?
The second could, of course, tie him to Mad French Delenn.
He got impaled through the leg with a punji stick when he was caught in the Mad French Delenn’s trap last episode.
Either would make sense, though not int he same way you think. Aren’t there many french-speakers in Ontario?
So anyone want to spec on the whole “raised by another” aspect? The psychic acted as if her baby would turn out to be the anti-Christ if raised by anyone but her.
