But… they added another 1 between the 4 and the 8. How do they explain that?
They didn’t. That seems to be jmizzou’s typo.
I think we’ve already used the “trap” subtext from this flashback. When the trap is being sprung, Locke’s mom is in the background, and Locke is walking over toward her. Right as Locke gets near her, the cage drops and the plastic mouse is trapped. I think the choice of game was deliberate foreshadowing to indicate that it was a setup.
… and at the end of the episode, there’s Locke, crouched down in the center of a big metal target, desperately wanting to get to the cheese…
Typo, indeed. That should read:
Numbers: 4 8 15 16 23 42
Grouped: 4.8151 6.2342
The map of Nigeria is correct, however.
Boone: She was my nanny. Theresa – she was my nanny. My mother wasn’t around much… I needed someone to take it out on… my bedroom was at the top of this huge flight of stairs… and I would sit in bed all day, calling her on the intercom. One day she took a bad step… broke her neck. I was 6.
- Locke looks at him, then past him, over Boone’s shoulder. Starts to chuckle *
Boone: What the hell is so funny?!
- Locke, still laughing, points past him, into the trees. Boone looks. We see the crashed plane, stuck in the trees. Cut to commercial *
I’ll spoiler box this just in case, but all is is the transcript from the site I gave earlier. According to that site, the exchange between Boone and the voice on the radio went like this:
Boone [to the radio]
Hello. Hello. Anybody out there? Mayday, mayday.
Locke
Boone, there's no time. Get out now.
Radio Voice
Is someone there?
Boone
Hello. Hello. Can you hear me?
Radio Voice
Repeat your transmission please.
Boone
Hello. We're survivors of the crash of Oceanic flight 815, please copy.
Locke [overlapping]
Boone, get out!
Radio Voice
Hello. We're the survivors of Oceanic flight 815(?).
Or “LandShark”.
This amuses the hell out of me, because after rewinding and re-listening about five times, myself and three of my friends were all 100% sure he said “There were no survivors.”
I don’t think we’re meant to know right now. sigh
I listened to it a number of times, too – and I could “hear” it both ways. Just too much other noise over the first part to get it clearly.
