Lost 11/10 "Confidence Man" - Contains Spoilers!

Also, I don’t think that the curveball that the introduction of the kid gave Sawyer establishes much in the way of “scruples” for him. That was a button issue for him largely because he’s a selfish bastard. He had no compunction at all for wiping out the life savings of two honest people, because they’re them. It was only the thought of hurting someone who he could identify with completely that gave him pause. Because the kid was in exactly the same situation as the one that grieved him once, he was suddenly someone to be considered. That’s not even a baby step in the direction of general human feeling. Hell, even the sort of people who practice the sort of qualified humanitarianism that extends only as far as people belonging to the same nation, ethnicity, or creed can be capable of some pretty unspeakable things toward everyone else. For Sawyer, that qualification limits his benevolence to people who might actually be mistaken for him by people who weren’t paying close attention.

I think the deal with the kid leaves plenty of room for him to be a total jerk before he and Kate make decent folk of each other.

Yeah, it’s cheesier than lasagne, but cheese is good for you.

Not me, Lar. I’m lactose intolerant.

You said it.

I mean, maybe Jack or Sawyer in a pinch, but Sayid? Could that man be any hotter?
Charlie seems to have come through his recovery with extraordinary rapidity, hasn’t he? Humpf.

I didn’t see the preview involving Sayid, so I was afraid they were writing him off the show for a while. I was in mourning.

Locke seems to be playing the God-in-Joan-of-Arcadia role. Give 'em hints and let them flounder.

I was very delayed watching this episode (#9?), but I’m struck by two things.

First-- why would Sawyer bother setting up a delay to light the bottle rocket if all he was going to do is smack Sayid in the head? Presumably Sayid would be just as distracted looking for a flare as he would be looking at his radio.

Second-- Jack’s got a nice hook for a man who dislocated his shoulder the day before. Guess he lost that nice sling already

But I am getting very tired of the musical montage at the end. Write another few lines of dialog fercrissakes.

Jon Carroll’s column on the SFGate website takes a look at Lost as if it were an episode of Survivor. It’s amusing.
