Lost 2.1: "Man of Science, Man of Faith"

Maybe Dell Dude Steven sleeps in the bottom bunk. Haven’t seen him since the show came on the air.

It is track #1 on Dedicated to the One I Love, which was a British compilation released in 2002.

He seemed pretty distant the first time he talked to her. What his dad told him about hope seemed to give him a revelation and a sense of personal involvement.

A website in a previous post to this thread says he’s typing “8 15 23”, with more clicks when the camera isn’t looking at the keyboard that adds up to the numbers plus the execute button.

Well, it does fit with the mining gear.

They made a vinyl record in 2002?

I ask this purely out of ignorance.

Apropos of nothing in particular, does anyone recall what Charlie’s first lines were this season (while they were on the beach, I think right after the first commercial break)? I was a little late getting back to the TV and missed them. :o

Thanks!

There’s a fairly large segment of audiophiles who still buy a lot of vinyl because they prefer the sound.

Well my 2 cents are as follows :

The meeting between Desmond and Jack was arranged but I can’t figure out the meaning of the ‘advice’ given to Jack :

Later on he lifts up the sheet showing Sarah’s feet and sees that she can move them but I doubt it’s exactly that.
Also, why did Desmond have to appear to him? In almost all of the back stories we’re shown how events in people lives all put them on the doomed plane, yet Jack was in Oz due to his Dad and not his wife. If Desmond hadn’t appeared to him wouldn’t things have worked out just the same (Jack would have spotted Sarah’s feet and would have followed his Dad…)

It seems clear to me though that Desmond is trying to hide his face from Jack at the end of the show and is forced to show himself. Desmond and Eugune working together also makes sense.

We see that Desmond has a large supply of stuff to inject himself with and we’re given an imige of his daily life (i.e. he needs one injection per day/week?) yet why would he if he was in a bunker with the word ‘quarantine’ on the inside. Surely he’s protected from whatever it is out there?

Where I work all the furnishing is pretty new yet some of the computers are more than 15 years old, mainly because they do a certain job and there’s no need to replace them as newer computers couldn’t do it any better.

Was it me or was the keybord dusty due to not being used in years or was it just the “exectue” key?

CHARLIE: No one is out there. No one is coming.

CHARLIE: The French woman is missing a bloody wing nut, you know. I mean, it was all bollocks. It’s a ghost story. She set the fire herself. [Charlie sees Sayid looking at him dubiously] What?

And with the flashing cursor, it’s clearly laughing malevolently…

Hmmm…

If Walt said “Don’t press the button. The button’s bad” and later we see Jack just about to press a button (though I have no idea why. I doubt an ‘exectue’ buton would do anything if you hadn’t entered any commands first) and I’m sure that Locke says something like “I wouldn’t do that Jack”.

Can anyone confirm if Locke warned Jack not to press the button?

I just glad the cursor wasn’t a  !

I grow tired of shows like Lost winkingat the audience!

I think this is a good explanation of this situation. You should see some of the aged stuff we’re still running here. Another problem with replacing older computer equipment is one often runs into compatibility problems doing so. And can you imagine having to bring in half a dozen consultants from IBM or EDS to work on the project?

Do you mean Ethan? (Who’s Eugene?)

I have it on very good authority he did indeed mean Ethan.

Carrying on the theme of some characters sharing their names with writers/philosphers, did WALT Whitman ever write a poem called 'Whispering Leaves" or grasses or anything ?

Maybe…

Don’t click on these links if you don’t want possible spoilers. It’s not about future episodes, just a possible key to the mystery of “Lost” via Desmond.

Over on IMDB, some folks are talking about a John Desmond Bernal and his Bernal spheres.

This version of the Bernal sphere was dubbed the “Island One” design…

This appears to be a real guy, as far as I can tell. I won’t link directly to IMDB… it’s easy enough to find.

Could this be the answer we’ve been looking for?

Desmond is collecting people (and other things) on the island as a sort of zoo. He’s the zookeeper.

[bump due to rerun]

Was there a Hanso ad in this ep? (Stupid power outage due to spring storms again.)

p.s. Jorge Garcia is playing in Celebrity Poker Showdown this time around. Look here for tournament 8, game 2 dates and times.
