Lost 2.14 "One of Them"

Was that Kate in the photo?

Poor Mrs. TreeFrog. She’ll never find her noisy soulmate now.

Man, that was a serious “tease” scene, with the clock actually hitting zero, but Locke still getting the code in, a few seconds late.

I thought the 3rd character looked like a quill-and-inkpot, and the 5th character like a divining rod. Vague on purpose, do you think?

That was the medical symbol on the Sick Bay Hatch Door, n’est-ce pas?

Yes, dangit, that was going to be my contribution to the thread! That was her dad, or at least the guy that raised her…right?

It’s official…Sawyer won the Most Hated Lostaway, beating out Charlie by one squished tree frog.

I don’t think that was Kate’s father. It took me a second, but the actor played a sadistic guard in Shawshank Redemption who kicked an overweight felon to death on his first night of incarceration, and “rescued” Andy from the guy that raped him.

The timer going to 0:00 was a cheat…it took the code even though Locke punched it in late. I would submit that letting the timer go to zero would be a good way to get rescued…the Dharma group would come investigate.

I thought Sayid was wrong, that the guy really did crash on the island from a hot-air balloon. I guess since I don’t torture people the whole “I felt no guilt” seemed rather lame to me.

Jack, you can’t have it both ways. If you’re getting an army together, it’s because you have an enemy. Yeah, ok, so torturing him isn’t really the right thing to do. But untying him and letting him chill in the bunker just ain’t smart either.

It’s so funny when someone tries to go from naive to badass in 30 seconds.

“My last interrogation was 3 weeks ago”

The other one that was going through my head was:

Hello, my name is Sayyid, and I’ll be your torturer tonight. Would you like to hear about our specials?"

Refresh my memory on what Kate’s deal was. I remember her killed a stepdad and/or boyfriend of her mom, and her meeting her father (stepfather?) in a military recruitment center when she was a fugitive. Did this new special forces guy fit into that description somehow, or was there a gap he’d fill? I don’t recall.

So the countdown timer is just a big slots machine? The “incident” in the Dharma film was probably just the last time somebody hit the big jackpot…

Oh boy, I can’t wait for the analysis of all of those symbols. I’m just gonna try and not think about them.

I believe was indeed Kate in the photo. I remember her mentioning that her dad was in some war, so that would make sense (though I think she was talking about 'Nam previously).

True, but did you see the smug look on the guy’s face when it was over? Someone rescued from torture would be relieved at the very least and probably crying hysterically, not smirking.

Bad acting or a clue?

I think the guy with the picture was a different one from the one that gave Sayid the wad of cash. That was a cold move, by the way, showing Sayid that he was able to speak Arabic and thus could have performed the interrogation himself. Did they do that in order to circumvent Geneva Convention torture laws?

I need to see a screencap of those symbols! Anybody?

Weren’t a couple of them Egyptian-y?

Maybe that was part of it, but I read it as a not-so-subtle attempt to recruit a spy. They sent him back to the enemy for a reason.

Rockets fly, penduins don’t, arrows have flights, seems that several tyes of flights have crashed on the island, so what the heck was that folded over thing?

My first thought was that it looked like some sort of staff, or a bobby pin that someone bent out of shape. Those wake almost as much sense as rope though.

Maybe it’s some sort of badass rebus.

You mean the first guy, the one that brought Sayid into “Hella?” You could be right. The man who gave Sayid the torture kit and the wad of cash was different. He was the one from Shawshank Redemption.

I think it’s the writers messing with our heads. I’m really starting to think they’re making this stuff up as they go.

Right, that guy was definitely in Shawshank. I think his name was Hadley or something like that. I never thought of it was recruiting a spy. Good observation, Omni.

The bird looked like a hieroglyphic hawk to me. The other one could be a hieroglypic feather. Not sure what the significance is though.

Can someone recap the last couple of minutes of the show, from when Sayid and Charlie are sitting on the beach? My Tivo decided the show was over for some reason.
