Lost 2.14 "One of Them"

Thanks, but I meant earlier when Clancy shows Sayid his own personnel file. What was in there to make Clancy think that Sayid would make a good torturer, or could be coerced into torturing someone?

** glares at Kythereia in a not-at-all suspicious manner **

The fact that Sayid’s CO orchestrated a Sarin gas attack on Sayid’s home town. Sayid would have gladly tortured the man, without even needing to ask any questions, purely for vengeance.

Reminded me of the Emperor’s taunting of Luke… “Your lightsaber… you want it, don’t you?”

Confirming this is the way I heard it also. The Kurgan played Sayid a videotape of the town’s chemical suffering and said “your boss is partly responsible for this.”

(Just to clarify, the “he said” above is a paraphrase.)

I’m thinking the vulture and hawk glyph could go either way. I keep seeing different representations of it, both head up and head down. However, if Baraqiyal is correct, then the transliteration makes it a vulture.

On the other hand, I believe the glyph on the right side that you see as a feather is actually a bi-literal logogram for a “fire drill”. Not as in “everyone out of the building” but as in “the stick you rotate quickly to make a fire”.

I don’t think there was any “partly” about it. IIRC the statement was “He did it.” Period. That would focus Sayid on one person, an object for his revenge.

I wonder when Danielle is going to get more specific about the “sickness.” We are seeing everybody going more and more to the extremes of their personalities. Is that what happened to her people?

One of the best lines of the night was when Kate’s dad asked Sayid whether he had done any translating, Sayid replied “not formally.”

Mr. Kate’s response was classic: “the fact that you know the word formally is good enough for me.”

As far as I am concerned the only way Balloon man could be proven innocent is if Hurley walks in and says, “Hey! I know that guy, I bought his mining company!”.

I had the same thought, Wile E. I suspect that if Henry Gale really isn’t one of the others, he’s got some connections to others on the island.

Also, if he’s not one of the others, he just gave some important insight into the “sickness.” According to his story, he and his wife crashed on the island four months ago, and she got sick three weeks ago. That could indicate that the physical signs of the illness begin to show themselves after three months or so on the island (or whatever it is that makes people “sick”). What makes some people apparently immune to the sickness? Rousseau said the members of her party got it, yet she was spared. Also, do the others get the sickness as well, or are they immune?

I wouldn’t tie his story of sickness too securely to Rousseau’s story; Rousseau said they got sick and she had to kill them because of it, so I’m assuming insanity rather than coughing up lungs.

Meh, good point. Hadn’t thought of that.

However, if they’re going to play that way, they may as well just kill him now since they have absolutely no way of knowing anything, ever.

Sayid seems to be very interested in the guy lying, but who cares? It’s all pointless if you’re right.

-Joe

I think he said it started with a fever and then she became delirious. That certainly could mean that she lost her mind, and he blamed it on delirium from the fever.

Michael just wandered off into the jungle and nobody seems to care…but you’re worried about the DOG?

Umm…Michael is far less likeable than that dog.

This was my first time watch Lost live. Damn the commercials. That was a rude awakening.

-I’m not the only person who loathes Jack, am I? So self-righteous, so judgemental, and definately naive. Stick to doctoring, my man.
-Someone asked if Locke is going to tell about the hieroglyphics. I doubt it. I can’t think of anyone he would tell. If only Boone were still alive…
-Hatch guy is totally evil. I demand more torture.
-Sawyer/Hurley plot was the plot-b…iest subplot ever. They could’ve at least stumbled on some whispering or something.
-I’m so happy to see Locke & Sayid in cahoots. This bodes well for the future.

Yeah. Michael’s got some sort of dumb luck. Remember he ran around Other-Infested jungle shouting “WAAAALLLLLTTTT!” for hours before Eko and Jin found him. He should have been Other fodder long before then. Obviously, they don’t want him. They’re probably watching him from a distance, laughing and taking bets on how many times he screams “WAAAAALLLLLTTTT!” in an hour.

Poor Vincent, finds boy, loses boy, finds girl, girl gets shot and dies, finds boy’s dad, loses boy’s dad. Poor Vincent.
Hmm … with his luck I think Ana Lucia should be his next caretaker. He’ll lead her right to the TCM!

Yeah, now that I think about it I agree she must be in the late-twenties/30 range. I guess I was taking too literally Shannon’s comment from season 1 “What are you, like* two* years older than me?” Shannon was just being flattering in her bitchy way.

Aw, Shannon…we miss you. Kind of.

Yikes! I hope Sawyer isn’t taking care of Vincent.

Something else that bothered me from last night’s show. I certainly can’t be the only one wondering who exactly is in Jack and AnaL’s army. He didn’t ask Sayid, or Locke. It doesn’t appear that Jin is involved. I’d think those three would be the first he would approach.
