My impression was that the clock was a mechanism to make sure that Desmond doesn’t leave his post. If he doesn’t check in at regular intervals and reset the clock, whoever left him there will know he has deserted (or expired) (or escaped?).
Alright, time to dust off the Greek Mythology texts…
Jack - Apollo
Locke - Dionysus
Kate - Artemis (aka Diana the Huntress)
Michael - Hephaestus (the builder)
Walt - ???
Jin - ???
Sun - ???
Sawyer - Hades (the ‘evil’ one)
Charlie - ???
Hurley - Sisyphus (he’s the one who was cursed to roll a stone up a hill and then every evening the stone would roll back down to the bottom)
Shannon - ???
Sayid - Ares (god of war)
Claire - Demeter (link
From there I lose connections. And for this to work you have to ignore all the incestuous relations that the greek gods had…
Just 'cause we saw Tequila Girl (name, please?) doesn’t mean any of those others (hint, hint) are also from the plane. In the preview which aired on my TV station, she even acts surprised that anyone else but her survived 815. At least, that’s how it was edited for now.
If it’s the hatch, then Locke is Pandora, neither Walt nor Hurley were for opening the hatch. Hurley might be Pandora due to his use of the numbers. Or Walt for whatever his involvement in this all was.
From watching the scenes for next week’s ep, and trying to figure out Others & tail section survivors, I came across a split second shot that made me laugh. I’ll spoiler it just in case.
Well i had that image in my head from when Hurley spotted the numbers but then … there is obvioulsy something nasty ‘out there’ already whereas evil and all manner of other nasty things were released for the first time when Pandora opened the box. OTOH she also released hope…
About the snowman joke: Apparently, Michael used this joke in a card he wrote to Walt in one of the flashbacks last season. Also, Hurley told this joke on the beach last season. (Note: I got this from listening to a local morning show today).
Like I said, I got this from a local morning show. I don’t recal either of those incidences from last season. However, the radio guys were certain the answer is “Do you smell carrots?”, so I assume that was the answer given. Can anyone confirm that?
By the way, I like the theory I heard that Desmond is waiting for a replacement, (thus the "Are you the one? question) and that Hurley is his replacement becuase he knows the number sequence and he knows this joke, which seems to be a pass code.
Thanks Big G I have a vague memory of the card Micheal made, don’t recall Hurley telling the joke tho’, maybe Walt told him ? Anyway the idea of Hurley being the replacement … like you say he does seem to know a couple of the key requirements. The guy he met in the ‘loony bin’ kept repreating the numbers over and over … just like Desmond has to do.
I was slightly disappointed that the writers had Locke point that out - it was like a big arrow “just in case any viewers missed it”.
