I don’t think so. Kelvin said it with an exhale of disgust, like “I can’t believe I signed up for this!”
It’s pretty clear that Kelvin says he joined Dharma after he stopped with the CIA. Whether “joined” means he sought a job with them, or they recruited him, or they somehow tricked him into it, who knows?
Also, he must have been instructed to keep up the “quarrantine” ruse with Desmond. Kelvin passes it off as just wanting to keep Desmond inside, but I think he was under orders to keep Desmond inside.
So, are we thinking that Jack and Kate were excchanging “meaningful glances”, which is what Sawyer was thinking, or was it an acknowledgement to put “Plan B” into motion? And is Michael aware of and part of “Plan B”? I’m not fully conviced of that, but I’m leaning in that direction.
I think they were agreeing to put “Plan B” in motion.
Too bad that Jack’s “Plan B” only consisted of:
Penelope???
Odyssey, anyone?
According to Homer, Penelope was wooed by 108 suitors while Odysseus was off sailing all over the place.
Also, he must have been instructed to keep up the “quarrantine” ruse with Desmond. Kelvin passes it off as just wanting to keep Desmond inside, but I think he was under orders to keep Desmond inside.
I don’t think the ruse had anything to do with instructions, I think it had to do with Kelvin wanting to steal the boat… and possibly believing that the button must be pushed by someone.
oo, back again. finally remembered the other question that’s been bugging me.
i know somebody’s probably been keeping a body count for the Lostaways who’ve been (heh) lost due to hostile activities (Others) or just circumstances.
does anybody have a toll for how many Others that the Lostaways have taken out in return? i’m thinking their herd must be starting to get a bit thin by now.
Eko and AnaLucia took out, what, three at the nighttime snatchings. AL also got Goodwin (offset by Shannon though. oh well).
Ethan got whacked when trying to reclaim Claire.
Desmond accidently took out Kelvin. (plus Kelvin’s hatchbuddy took himself out.)
Kate or Sawyer took out one of their tails last night.
any others been removed from the opposition that i’ve forgotten? and how many bodies were present last night, still up and able? how do the Losties stack up, numberwise, against the opposition?
And in the background on the dock… wasn’t that one of the other tailies? the blond chick that got ‘captured’ just before Shannon was shot?
Cindy was a brunette. I didn’t see her there, but I also wasn’t paying close attention to the other Others.
I hadn’t thought of a Plan B, but I did notice a lot of meaningful looks between Michael and Jack, and Hurley and Jack, before they left. Of course the looks could be dismissed as “I’m sorry I killed the drunks 'n all. See ya” and “Dude, I kinda feel bad leaving when you’re all tied up”, respectively. But this adds a new dimension to it. Perhaps off-camera, the Five (including Michael) formulated some ludicrously complicated “here’s what we do when we’re captured by the Others” plan.
Hah. You’ve clearly never owned a sailboat
Repairing a fiberglass sailboat takes a lot of specialized material that you’re just not going to come across on a deserted island. That boat looked pretty darned good, rigging-wise, brightwork and hull. I’m pretty sure that if I were in Kelven’s position, I wouldn’t be futzing around with sanding down the fiberglass, replacing the gel coat, and varnishing the teak. There’s also the question of how a single person could have careened and worked on the hull of an 8 ton sailboat and then launched it again.
Ha! I’ve sailed all my life, and have owned a boat! I just think you’re overanalyzing this. We don’t know how many other hidden stores of supplies there are… we don’t know if Kelvin is in league with The Others or not… and we don’t even know how much the boat was really damaged.
BTW, that was one helluva boat, and Desmond would’ve needn’t much more than $42k (numbers alert!) to buy something like that.
[quoet]Doesn’t even address the issue of how come our Lostaways didn’t discover the boat floating in its little cove during the days and weeks after the crash. It wasn’t exactly inconspicuous, and it had to be somewhere within a 54 minute skulk from the hatch.

Yes, this is the show’s weakest aspect, IMO.
I think they were agreeing to put “Plan B” in motion.
Too bad that Jack’s “Plan B” only consisted of:
- Get sacks put over our heads
- Get dragged off into the jungle.
You’re forgetting Sayid and his newly recruited Republican Guard battalion (Sun and Jin).
I am a Lost watcher, and a thread lurker. I am ready to make my contribution!
Desmond heard Locke banging on the hatch door and yelling at it…but he didn’t hear the big plane crash?
When Kate picked up one of the notebooks and read it aloud, I’m pretty sure she said something that included the initials S.R. …Any thoughts on who that is? I couldn’t think of anyone at the time.
Anyone think about what consequences Sun could face if she meets The Others since she is pregnant?
More from the invisibility angle:
Jack, Sawyer, Kate and Hurley didn’t see the Others that darted them (although they were able to spot the tails in the jungle- go figure).
Danielle Rousseau has lived on the island for 16 years but has never seen the Others, though it seems like I remember her saying she’s “heard” them, i.e., the whispering. Shannon heard the whispering, too, but never saw anyone- until she saw Walt.
Shannon thought she saw Walt, or maybe it was WAAALT, in the jungle. Since DHARMA claims to investigate remote viewing, perhaps he was communicating to her, um, remotely.
Also, it would sort of explain why Miss Klugh (What was her real name? Tom, aka Bluebeard, mentioned it, but I didn’t hear him well enough.) asked Michael if Walt had appeared in places that were surprising.
Maybe I am overanalyzing and reading in too much nonsense, but it’s still interesting.

Maybe those are Pseudo Henry’s real initials?
Also, I just realized that:
The bright white/violet light we saw after Desmond turned the key is the same lighting used on thehansofoundation.org during its initial load.
You’re forgetting Sayid and his newly recruited Republican Guard battalion (Sun and Jin).
Right. So let me amend…
Plan B consists of:
- Desmond heard Locke banging on the hatch door and yelling at it…but he didn’t hear the big plane crash?
Well, if the crash occurred right about when Desmond was trying to stop SYSTEM FAILURE SYSTEM FAILURE, then there was plenty of other noise in the hatch, and immediately after that, he was probably too busy cleaning up after crapping his pants.
However, was Locke banging on the hatch “WHY WHY WHY did you do this to MEEEEEEEEEEEE?” the first time Desmond heard banging on the vertical shaft door? I would be very surprised if it was. Because Locke and Boone had been trying to bust open the thing with a trebuchet, previously. That had to make some noise.
Dynamite is not enough to open the blast doors, but it was enough to open the outer hatch door. So why didn’t they make the outer door from the same stuff?
It’s pretty clear that The Others can control the time and place when the Lostaways see them. I can’t fathom how Sayid could possibly even find the place where Jack, Kate, and Sawyer will be taken once they leave the dock. Presumably there are 2 more undiscovered bunkers on The Island, and my guess is it would be to one of them that they’re taken, and
Jack and Sawyer will be made to fight to the death, Gladitor style. The winner will be allowed to mate with Kate to produce the newborn that The Others so desparately crave. The Others, of course, are no longer able to reporduce, and must resort to kidnapping children to prolong their race.
Good thing Desmond’s failsafe key wasn’t made of metal.

The blast doors were much thicker, they were supported by the teeth into the floor, Eko didn’t tamp the dynamite, and he was using the “Hollywood” dynamite anyway. As noted, all it does is produce a fireball.
I’m still confused why no one used the “failsafe key” a long long time ago.
By the way - was anyone else really annoyed when Locke said (referring to Eko and Charlie, I think) “They’re not my friends.” Boy, he sounded like a pouty little kid with that remark.

Well, he had just gotten locked out of the play room and had been bawling profusely.
Good thing Desmond’s failsafe key wasn’t made of metal.
My favorite was the little metal door covering the keyhole. The magnet couldn’t lift the 6 ounces of metal but as soon as Desmond flipped it up it tears away the hinges.
