Lost 2.23: "Live Together, Die Alone" [Season Finale] Open Spoilers

Kelven said he’d been repairing it. Given there was about 4 years between Desmond’s arrival on The Island, and the crash of flight 815, that gives him lots of time. I didn’t think that was all that bad an explanation.

I think that’s the whole point. All these things that seem so mysterious aren’t quite so mysterious when seen from another angle. Remember how we all gasped when Locke saw the light coming out of the hatch in Season 1? Turns out to be nothing, really.

If by “they” you mean our Lostaways, only Locke knows about it, and it’s only visible for a short time (a minute or two) during a Lockdown, of which there had been only one previously.

So did I. I’d recorded the episode, and when the scene began I thought it was a vodka commercial; I started fast-forwarding through it. I was wrong, man, dead wrong.

Quote from tanstaafl:
“Just remembered something that occured to me. Isn’t this the first time we have had a scene not on (or near) the Island that wasn’t in a flashback? And doesn’t this pretty much eliminate all of the “they’re in another time” or “the rest of the world has been destroyed” theories?”

This is specifically addressed in an interview with one of the writers in an article in the New York Times online (requires log-in) here: http://www.nytimes.com/2006/05/25/arts/television/25lost.html?_r=1&8dpc&oref=login

Yes! I thought so, too. That vodka commercial with the dorky big guy who’s always out dogsleding or something.

This is going off trivia listed in Wikipedia, but it says in the episode where Sun finds out she is pregnant, the brand of pregnancy test she uses is manufactured by “Widmore Labs.”

Also, apparently in one of Charlie’s flashbacks, the one where he is taping a commercial w/ Drive Shaft, there is construction sign behind him from “Widmore Construction.”

Hummmmm…

Yep. I think we already noted it in th thread. If you were a true “Lost” fan, you’d’ve picked that up right away. And the address on the letters from Desomnd was “23” (or one of the numbers, I don’t remember which one).

BTW, does anyone have a screen capture of the Hurley Bird? It’ look a lot odder than the other bird we saw in an earlier episode. It sort of looked like an Archaeopteryx.

If I hadn’t noticed that the ABC logo stayed in the corner, I would have thought it was a commercial too.

I’m glad I wasn’t the only person to notice this, and I wonder if “Dave/David” is really dead? Also, from the finale, we learn that the Whisperers (the Others in the clearing that darted the Losties) seem to be invisible, as was Dave/David to everyone in the institution, including the camera. Was he already part of Dharma/Hanso?

Was Libby a mole?

Oh, Channel 7 news here in Los Angeles interviewed the producers and this is what they had to say about season 3:

-Walt and Michael would have their own story arc and we will get more in depth information about The Others

This, to me, is the biggest i mistake in the whole episode… While Desmond was able to “execute” and stop whatever was happening… it was very clear that something undesirable was happening at the time.

I saw that as more of an informal thing, as in, he joined, Desmond joined, Locke joined…

Actually, I’m kind of wondering about the timing here. If we’re assuming that the very start of the problems is the start of the System Failure, then Desmond was out of the hatch for at least an hour after the timer ran out.

Otherwise, the fact that the radio on the plane died and they went off course had absolutely nothing to do with the crash.

This also means that the connections people have from before the crash have nothing to do with the accident, unless you believe in that fate crap.

Re: not being able to get back to the island, even though there was a food drop: (a) it could have come from somewhere else on the island, and (b) there may be zones of no effect in the “no island to be found” field, so it may be possible to get to and from the island if you approach and depart on a specific heading, i.e., leaving on a heading of 325 takes you away from the island safely, approaching on a heading of… um… the opposite side… allows you to approach, so a plane could leave from a specific airport, follow a specific flight path, and just drop the goodies when the island magically appeared.

The ones who kill other people for their own selfish purposes.

… because people on this island don’t talk to anybody about anything, even if it could save lives?

Mine was the Argonath (note: five toes, so no connection).

Brigadoon.

Yeah, there was a scene where he had a weird rash on his arm.

re: too many pneumatic tubes: Maybe they were getting tube drops along with their food, like the Swan got vaccine along with theirs.

re: Why the invisible map: The map had a lot of information on it about things the anomalies were doing out on the island, information they probably weren’t supposed to have. They needed it kept secret so they wouldn’t get in trouble for having the information.

And in the background on the dock… wasn’t that one of the other tailies? the blond chick that got ‘captured’ just before Shannon was shot?

I think you folks are all totally nuts about the Dave/David thing. You’re over-thinking it. The Dave episode made it pretty clear to me that he was nothing more than a Hurley creation, there was nothing the least bit open ended about that episode or that explanation.

Two guys in a tiny hut, in the middle of a blizzard, kicking the broken heater and playing chess… they’re Russians. Maybe they were practicing their Portugese.

There was always something I didn’t trust about Libby. The hot babe liking the shy, depressed, zero confidence Hurley was just a little unbelievable. I figured she was with him for another reason. I stopped thinking that when she got her bullet, but now I’m back on the mole bandwagon.

Not entirely. Locke saw essentially the same thing when the station went DefCon Penguin and he was convinced it was all a ruse. Desmond could very well have believed the lights and noise he saw before turning it off was just part of the put-on. Desmond only changed his mind about it being real when he saw that the plane crashed on the same day it when “system failure”.

It’s probably not news to most of you but to those who haven’t seen this, check it out. Caution: Possible spoilers. They’re messing with us and I love every minute of it!

Hah. You’ve clearly never owned a sailboat  Repairing a fiberglass sailboat takes a lot of specialized material that you’re just not going to come across on a deserted island. That boat looked pretty darned good, rigging-wise, brightwork and hull. I’m pretty sure that if I were in Kelven’s position, I wouldn’t be futzing around with sanding down the fiberglass, replacing the gel coat, and varnishing the teak. There’s also the question of how a single person could have careened and worked on the hull of an 8 ton sailboat and then launched it again.

Doesn’t even address the issue of how come our Lostaways didn’t discover the boat floating in its little cove during the days and weeks after the crash. It wasn’t exactly inconspicuous, and it had to be somewhere within a 54 minute skulk from the hatch.

Not neccisarily, as the Dharma group had that whole “Remote Viewing” thing going on, and possibly Libby was/is the transmitter in that case.

Just because no one else could see him doesn’t mean that he wasnt there…

(am I really arguing this? I agree with you except that on this island, things seem to appear/disappear that no one else sees, so Dave could have been the same… the glue is Libby).

About the pneumatic tubes (the number of them). In the orientation video they said after your shift at Station Pearl, proceed to ferry terminal. So I’m assuming that each new shift got a supply of tubes and notebooks.

MtM

The guy in the medical hatch was Bluebeard (without the beard), talking to Ethan. The actor is M.C. Gainey. “Kelvin” was played by Clancy Brown.

Nice.
And I could totally see GOB destroying the hatch, then having a worried look on his face…
