Dammit! I was taping, so that I could watch again later, and noticed close to the end that my tape had ejected from the VCR. Went back to look and it appears I got the first hour and a half – only cut out the last half hour. But there was plenty of room on the tape. So either the tape was defective and auto-stopped (like it was the end of the tape), or my dog stepped on the remote control (which was sitting on the armrest of my sofa). The latter is a distinct possibility, because he climbs from the sofa to a ledge in front of the living room window.
Bad dog!!!
Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr…
Anybody know if this finale is getting repeated any time soon? I want to re-tape the whole thing.
Michael had better hope he doesn’t just drift back to the island – that Pseudo Henry’s instructions will get him away. Because I don’t think he’ll be fitting in with the Losties any more. Especially if Hurley has anything to do about it.
I wonder if this story bit was to get Walt off the island because the actor is growing up too fast?
and for the record, I’d heard that Desmond’s flashbacks would have Libby in them – I was hoping we’d fine out more about her, though. I guess they’ve decided not to go anywhere with that mysterious reveal, that she was in the same nuthouse as Hurley? Or will that come back next season?
So is there another button being pushed in another hatch? Perhaps one that has to be pushed every 108 seconds to keep the polar bears from escaping?
For me, the new burning question is… What about the 4-toed foot-statue?!
We didn’t, but that presumably took place at the same time as when they gave him instructions to free Henry Gale and directions to the location of the trap.
This is pure speculation on my part, but I’m willing to say that there is something up with the show dealing between science and faith. The Dharma folks seem to be the “science” side and the “others” seem to be like they are looking for something, whether its with the children or something, but it almost seems to me like they are either members of Dharma that took over or they are special in some way…Then again they could be Dharma, I don’t know and I doubt the producers know either.
Where did the Aug. 15 information come from? I don’t remember that.
Also, one minor inconsistency I found – in episode 3 of season 2, when Desmond tells Jack and John about how he got there, he said his boat crashed into the reef, “and then Kelvin came… he comes running out of the jungle… ‘Hurry hurry come with me’… he brings me down here…”
So in Desmond’s original story, it sounds like he was awake and aware and Kelvin came out and verbally told him, “Come with me”. But clearly in tonight’s flashback, Desmond is out of it, and carried back to the hatch, and comes to down there.
By the way, any sort of plans to anyone come up with are a sign of weak writing.
Here’s the big plan: Michael wants to lead everyone to the Others 'village, where the Others will be waiting, it’s a trap. So what’s their counter-plan? Sayid will go scout the place out (he finds it empty, but if he didn’t, he’d probably just observe it from far away), make a GIANT SMOKE SIGNAL TO “let them know we’re coming”, and then… have those 5, plus sayid now, with a little recon info, come marching into the camp… where the Others will be waiting?
I mean their plan is essentially to do exactly what the others wanted them to do - go marching in there into a trap. How is that a counter plan?
Now if they’d plan to have the Others’ attention focused on Michael’s group while Sayid had a bunch of unseen, armed guys ambush the Others’ ambush party, that might make some degree of sense. But as it is, it’s basically “They want us to just march into an ambush! But I’ve got a better plan! Let’s just march into an ambush! That’ll show them!”
My first thought upon seeing the foot statue was Colossus of Rhodes. I don’t know if that monument was supposed to be 4-toed, though. “4” is one of the numbers, so maybe that’s just another gratuitious number thingy.
Did Kelvin say that he “joined” the Dharma Initiative? Was he speaking literally, or was tha just a euphamism for having been marooned on the Island like everyone else? If the latter, why the charade with Desmond about wearing the contamination suit?
I concur. The whole time, I wasn’t sure what exactly the “counter plan” WAS…I still don’t really understand it.
How did he know no one would be able to see a sail boat? Did he know the camp was on the side of a cliff and not a beach?
Why didn’t he take Jin into the camp with him? (Ok, it’s because Jin probably didn’t want to go. But I wanted to see more of Daniel Dae Kim’s new curly hair, dammit!)
He suspected that Michael was lying about the Others - that they were scraggly and unarmed. What did he think he was going to find, then, that he could fight against with one rifle, all by himself?
Smoke signal? So 5 people walking through the jungle would see a smoke signal but not the Others?
I REALLY thought the plan was “you guys go meet the Others and right at a tense moment I’ll come swooping in with all my military-style ass kicking and rifle and save everyone.”
Yeah, I expected him to bring half the camp with him on the boat. BFD that he was adding two men to the team that was supposed to go up against The Others (I assume Sun wouldn’t be all that much help). The know that The Others have a power boat, so how is a sailboat supposed to be safe, anyway?
As for Sayid, wasn’t he shown on the boat during the “sunburst” experience?
Michael won’t leave. I loved Harrold Perrineau in OZ, but he bugs the shit out of me here. He’ll be back.
Did anyone call the plane being pulled down by EM?
“Henry Gale” may be a superior, but he’s not in charge. Leaders don’t get sent out as scouts to be trapped. Trapping him didn’t help the others either, Michael would have done that regardless.
I’m not surprised that Eko’s cross didn’t react to the EM.
I noticed that too, but toward the end it did finally snap off his neck and fly toward the magnet. Maybe he coated it in non-ferrous material since we saw it last. Yeah, that’s it.
