Lost 2.9: "What Kate Did"

Um, and then there is a document dated 4 October – 2005 that appears after it.

As per the “IM” who the hell is that?!?!

The Dharma Initiative has several websites, .info. .com .
I was clicking around and got one where i wasn’t met with “invalid ip” and then an emulated dos screen showed up, where I typed in 4 8 15 16 23 42. This got me a new screen where I was supposed to enter “member number” but I couldn’t get further.
Now, when writing this post, I was gonna link to that site (.info), but now it just says “invalid ip” again.

And why is http://www.di9fftr731.com/ an URL for the dharma site?
Good Moleman to you.

>: Who is this?

Today is part four of our twenty-three part series on the agonizing pain in which I live every daaaaaay…
I agree. My impression while watching was that Michael at first thought the computer was running some little AI game or something. The first couple messages looked like what those programs do; first they say Hello, then they ask your name, etc (how about a nice game of chess?). Then when he saw Dad?, he started thinking that he might actually be chatting with a real person.

If he thought from the start that he was talking to a person, then his reaction doesn’t really make sense to me.

Well, it looked to me as if did respond. He definately kissed her back, it looked to me. I’m not a big fan of old Jack, to tell you the truth – not really my type, I guess – but he looked like a pretty good kisser, too. Then Kate runs off, leading to the confusion and frustration and angry woodchopping and attempt to get Ana-Lucia likkered up.

Huh. Alvar Honso looks a lot like Bernard…

Well I’m lame enough that I actually recreated it in an Exel worksheet. Why? I don’t know, but there it is. I think I’m just bored.

(Note the mistake I found – it’s missing the number in the field for 98 Down – though I’m sure it’s completely meaningless.)

Great episode (finally!). I differ with those who say Michael should’ve immediately typed in who he was and how they were stranded from an airplane crash, etc. With all the weirdness going on on that island, it’s far more prudent to be cautious about who you give information to. For all he knows, it could be someone who already knows they’re on the island, but not where to find them, and may want to do them harm. I wouldn’t tell anybody who or where I was unless or until I knew exactly who I was divulging that info to.

He was talking about things they had seen. They’ve never actually **seen **the monster (except maybe Locke has).

When Michael answered the computer, everybody in my apartment simultaneously said “Shall we play a game?” in the Wargames Joshua voice.

Gee. The same nerds were at my place last night, too!

Before I do this myself, let me see if anyone else has already done it…

Has anyone checked the Orientiation film in the original “Orientation” episode to see if 1) The obvious splicing gap was present and 2) if there are any other obvious gaps (like maybe 5 gaps total)?

I did, but as class was starting I had to shut down. Meant to go look again shortly.

Anyway, it looked to me like the film didn’t appear so badly spliced as it did after they inserted the new piece. It’s more obvious that lots is missing now, where it wasn’t so apparent before.

I know you’re asking for the audience’s sake, but surely someone (e.g. Locke) would have already looked over the film to see if it had been cut and spliced back together…

I think I’m not quite understanding the sequence of events here…

(1) Kate is innocent young girl
(2) She is good friends with a young boy, but he moves away/they drift apart, after burying a little time capsule containing a toy airplane
(3) Her mother remarries
(4) She hates her stepdad (actually her biological dad)
(5) In her first major criminal act, she blows up the house and sets up her mom to receive the insurance payments
(6) Her mom turns her in
(7) Marshall catches her
(8) They run into horse, she escapes

(9) her mom is dying
(10) She goes to the hospital, and meets friend from (2)
(11) She runs off with him, they dig up the airplane, have good chats
(12) They are being chased, have car accident, he dies

???

(13) The plane is in a bank vault, she robs the bank, gets caught?

You’re missing:

(12A) Hooks up with some bad-ass dudes who she talks into robbing a bank while she pretends to be an innocent victim.

 1. She high-tails it to Australia, where she lives on the lam with some Aussie man for several months before he turns her over to the Marshalls for extradition back to the U.S.

 2. After the plane crashes, Sawyer kills the dying Marshall in a mercy killing.

Also, somewhere along the line (??) she learns survival training, self defense, and tracking skills.

The Hanso foundation site has a little something new if you click on “Active Projects” and then click on the fun loving “Life Extension Project.” Neat.

I think the answer to the crossword is SPRING ICE. That would be “thin ice” if you’re looking for a metaphor, which would imply danger or trouble ahead. If you prefer to be more literal, it could be how the polar bear got to the island (ice floes are spring ice).

I tried to read the fruit salad of ribbons on Sgt. Austen’s uniform. I noticed that he did not have a lot of the medals you’d expect a Korean War vet to have, but I couldn’t see if he had a campaign ribbon from Desert Storm. Wouldn’t it be neat if he had served with Jin or Sun’s parents as well as across the line from Sayid?

Urk. Just checked, and he does have the “Kuwait Liberation” campaign ribbon. It’s on his lower left - the viewer’s lower right.

I think this is a reference to the flashback scenes; they’re remembering things, they reveal their backgrounds (“pour out their soul”), and they talk about events back in the regular world (“the multitude”) as opposed to the small group of people on the island.

I’m not so sure about the second half though.
