We know (3) occurred when Kate was five. Based on that and the fact that her friend mentioned she was having problems at home, I’d assume that Kate’s mother and Wayne were already married before Kate and her friend were seperated.
Did anyone else notice that “Gilgamesh” is written in different handwriting than the rest of the puzzle? God only knows if that means anything and He won’t tell anyone but WAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLTTTT!!
and
ok… that by itself is really wrong.
Korean War Vet == 1950-1954 area. (right?)
Desert Storm was 1991…
Even if the age thing is “ok”… Lets assume he was 18 at the beginning of Korea, he would have “retired” way before Desert Storm… As a reference point, are there any Vietnam vets still serving?
And only a Master Seargeant with ATLEAST 30 Years in service… that’s one dumb seargent!
I believe that was Locke’s addition to the puzzle.
There are lots of American soldiers who are in Korea today. The Korean War time frame doesn’t make a difference.
A Korean War vet would be in his 60s or 70s now.
Fair enough, but I was under the impression that he was there during the war, which does make a big difference, IMHO.
However, I was not under the impression that Kate’s “father” was a soldier in Korea. The writers picked an overseas location where a U.S. soldier was likely to be. They could have just as easily said Germany. Would you have thought that the man was a World War II vet then?
That’s not possible, given that Kate was born 4 months after he got back from Korea. Assuming the plane crash was 2004ish, there’s no way Kate was born in the mid-1950s, unless, of course, she’s taking part in the Hanso Foundation life extension project.
In the real word, Evangeline Lilly is 26. She’s not even old enough to have a father who served in the Vietnam War.
And being Canadian, that’s even more unlikely (although not impossible).
I agree that Kate’s dad wasn’t in The Korean War, but I’ve got an uncle who got his Purple Heart in Vietnam, and his daughters are both older than 26.
I’m bummed out that we didn’t get to see how many A’s Michael types whenever he spells WAAAAAAAAAAAAALT’s name.

Tony Randal became a father at 80. If the father is 72 now, he’d be 46 when Eva was born (1979) and would be 19 in 1952. So its possible that Evas father was old enough for the Korean War (certainly old enough for the Vietnam war)
But that is moot, since being in Korea != being in the active war. (and the war is technically still in effect)

My girlfriend’s father served in Vietnam, and he has a daughter that’s 25 (or 26, but no older than that). For the record.
Anyway, I didn’t get the impression that Kate’s father served in the Korean War, either.
I had the strangest dream this morning. It was Jack and Alvar Hanso discussing something way too technical for me to understand, but I did catch “transference” mentioned several times.
The last thing I remember of the dream is Hurley’s face really up close saying “TRANSFER, DUDE!”
Yes I’m sure this means nothing other than I am waaaay too into that show.
ok… I rescind my earlier comments… he was in Korea, but not a part of the Korean War.
He was just part of the force that guards the North/South Border.
Kate specifically said her father was in Korea when she was conceived (that was the whole point of the scene) so if she meant the war rather than the country, Kate would have been born no latter than 1952. Unless the producers are really screwing around there’s no way that’s true.
When I was a kid I was friends with a girl whose father was in the Air Force. In 1987-1988, they stationed him in Korea for a year. This was despite the fact that he had seven children at home. That’s what I thought of immediately. Kate’d dad was stationed over there for awhile, and while he was gone her mom took up with Wayne.
And has anybody seen this in the news this morning? Both Cynthia Watros and Michelle Rodriguez were arrested for DUI in separate incidents 15 minutes apart early this morning. Not such a good night for the tailies.
Must have been those tequila shots AL was doing at the end of the episode…
This is OT, but it looks like 2 of our stars are in trouble.
Maybe they both just discovered that the producers are going to have them eaten by the TCM in an upcoming episode. (Please oh please oh please!)
