While reading these threads the past couple of weeks, I’ve had a thought in my head that I wanted to convey. You summed it up pretty well.

I noticed that the previews for next week say something like “…following an enhanced version of this episode at 8”. So, is this “enhancement” like the one they did to “Through the Looking Glass” the day before the season premier?

Yes.
You can see the enhanced version of Confirmed Dead here: http://dynamic.abc.go.com/streaming/landing

The magnet has been imploded, no?
Well, technically just the Swan Station has been imploded. I have a feeling that the whole electromagnet thingy is bigger than the Swan Station. So now whatever it was doing and “building up a charge” that needed draining off every 108 minutes is no longer occurring – maybe the magnet is still around, but there’s no longer a dam to harness the energy (for whatever purpose it was being used for)?
On a more general note, I’d say it’s pretty clear Ben is lying when we see his lips move. ![]()

I wonder about the Italian guy that Sayid killed. Surely he knew, in advance, who Sayid was or else why did he make a point to chase him down on the golf course? Seems odd that he was taken by surprise.
My first thought on seeing it was that the guy knew who Sayid was when he approached him. But on going back and looking again, I think Sayid went out specifically to the golf course to wait for that guy – and just pretended to be trying to play his own game and keep to himself. I think Sayid was just ambushing him, and the other guy only realized he was in danger when Sayid told the guy he was one of the Oceanic 6.
Gotta be Jack and Kate part of it, too. No reason to give the nickname “Oceanic 6” if more than 6 of them came back. And we know from last season’s finale that Oceanic gave them special passes (lifetime passes?) for free flying – Jack talked about using it to fly back and forth all the time.

Yep. Remember that Dharma was attracted to The Island partially to explore the electromagnetic anomaly that was already there.

Ugh. Their “enhanced” versions are pretty irritating for pros like us. ![]()
Yeah - those “enhanced” versions are Lost For Dummies

No, Kate returned under an assumed identity or under the radar; otherwise, she wouldn’t be allowed to roam free.
And I’m still struck by the absolute utter lack of interest that Jack showed in Faraday’s experiment. I mean, he heard and saw enough that he should’ve been aware of the implications, yet he never asked even one feakin’ question.

I’m convinced that the island’s EM field is severely affecting the brain of everyone on the island. It’s dampening the ability of neurons to forge new synapses; people are thus having a much harder time making new connections in their brain, unable to put two and two together:
-
They don’t share information because their brains don’t actually register the information in any sort of practical context; it’s just there, to be collected and gathered like acorns.
-
The strange lack of curiosity is because their brains keep forgetting the contradictions that have arisen; events are isolated in their mind and don’t have anything to do with each other.
-
The strange tendency to randomly turn on each other by knocking each other out, throwing knives at each others’ backs, pointing guns in each others’ faces, etc. is explained by brain damage, as a side effect of this connection-inhibiting force. The longer you’re on the island, the more psychotic you become. The Others are a more developed form of this phenomenon.
So let’s not blame the Losties, folks. The properties of the island that heals their bodies are destroying their minds. Claire seems to be unaffected, being the only one who has managed to seem equally stupid on the island as off. She’s probably the key to the island, which is why The Others kidnapped her. It’s all about her bye-bee!

Or else she received a pardon in return for whatever herioc act it was that made the Oceanic Six so damn famous.
Or perhaps witness protection, for testifying against… I don’t know, Dharma?
Anyway, since we now have two competing shadowy international organizations, I think we need better names. “Others” and “Boaties” won’t cut it. I suggest “Jacobites” for Ben’s people, for obvious reasons, and for the Abbadon/Economist gang, maybe “Hanovers” for historical symmatry?
The thought that crossed my mind was, how evil do the guys on the boat have to be for Sayid to have ended up working for Ben, when in the same episode he said something along the lines of if i ever trust that man i will have sold my soul.
Also I don’t think the answer to the Island’s mystery will be cutting edge physics, as it will have to be easily understood by the average viewer. More likely “A wizard did it”

Since there is no plausible reason for how stupid everyone on the island behaves, I think it’s fun to make up stupid reasons. ![]()
About the guys on the boat, they can’t be too evil, if they’re the ones that actually get the Oceanic 6 off the island. Perhaps the ones behind the scenes on the boat are really evil, but the crew of the boat are just normal people, which is why they can’t just kill the 815-ites. Or perhaps they’re not really evil, but just believe that the Losties are somehow dangerous (they’re ripping the fabric of time and/or stupidity? ;)) and must be eliminated?

Not necessarily, but we find out the answer this Thursday.

Cool. Speaking of significant names, my ears finally pricked up at “Saint Sebastian Hospital” while catching up on Through the Looking Glass last week.
I guess because it was mentioned so early on and is so nicely inconspicuous as a hospital name, I never thought much about it.
But it fits in with the Apollonian theme they’ve had going on. How does a Catholic saint relate to classical mythology? This finally clicked for me when I heard “Saint Sebastian” for the umpteenth time during that episode, which then concluded with Ben Linus in a position that was evocative of St. Sebastian’s martyrdom.
(Linus, of course, was a son of Apollo - given over to be raised by others (shepherds,) which didn’t work out so well as a dingo ate his baby. Apollo reacted to this insult by whipping up a nice little child-killing plague. Oh, that wacky Apollo!
Interesting that you mention “shepherds” and Saint Sebastian Hospital in the same post, because lately I’ve been pondering the significance of Jack’s dad’s name being Christian Shepard. (I’m sure I’m about three seasons too late in bringing that one up…)

Perhaps Jack’s dad function was to herd all the Losties together on the island, where their souls would be saved through heroic acts of redemption. Perhaps Jack’s dad is still alive. Perhaps Jack’s dad is…
BEN!
And Alex is… LADY JESUS, REBORN!
What? Makes as much sense as what we’re shown on-screen. ![]()
