She told Hurley she trained in the medical field, before she became a therapist (or words to that effect.) That and we never found out why she was in the institution with Hurley. So there are a few unanswered questions about her still. But, I am not so convinced of this theory I am going to worry about really defending it or anything. Just something that made me go “hmmm.” (along with a million other things about this show. Actually, most of them make me go WTF more than hmmm.)
Wasn’t the boat appearance preceded by the tell-tale whispering? If that’s the case, I would think it was island vision rather than imagination, but I may be misremembering.
I don’t think you are. I too remember whispers. I think it is possible it is some kind of remote imaging. Maybe the smoke monster is not limited to the island.
I’m late with catching up on this and just saw it off the DVR. I noticed that after Karl went down and they rolled him over on his side he had something in his ear. I don’t know if it was supposed to be part of the plot, maybe a radio earpiece, or if it was for hearing protection, or a hearing aid or what.
The explosive squibs they use don’t seem loud enough to require protection, and there was a cut in between, so they would have had time to remove protective gear, and I don’t see any indication on the actor’s IMDB page that he has a hearing disability, so I’m wondering if it might have been intentional.
Maybe his hearing was damaged when he was in Ben’s “A Clockwork Orange” re-education program…
