Lost 4.10: "Something Nice Back Home"

Well, obviously someone (points up) didn’t nail it down for sure.

That’s one thing that confuses me (only one thing? right…). Why do the ghosties not want Jack to raise Aaron? Claire was told not to let another (an other?) raise her child, but Jack is actually related. And does jack’s pointed comment to Kate that she’s not related to Aaron mean that he knows that he is? His reluctance to see Aaron after the court trial leads me to believe he already knows, since Aaron is the embodiment of his Dad’s unfaithfulness to his family.

Another thing: When Kate was on the phone, she said that “he was here for about an hour.” Sawyer may have stayed on the island, but it might well be that he didn’t stay there forever. It would be the perfect solution for him: the world thinks he’s dead, and he could get a new identity from Ben. And if he does leave, you know who the first person he’d visit would be.

:smack: Yes, Bernard. I had a brain fart and just went with the first “B” name to pop into my head. Thanks.

So I’m guessing that the scene at the airport from the first new episode between Kate and Jack was supposed to be after the engagement? So was Hurley then out of the institution when shooting hoops?

Liked Rose’s observation about nobody getting sick before now. I can only remember people dying from gunshots or strange phenonmenon (BSM). So Jack getting apendicitis is definitely an anomoly. Still don’t get why some people stay dead and some don’t.

So who’s going to comment about Hurley’s statement about them all being dead?

:smack: Hey it was one scene a few years ago. Forgive me if I didn’t have every detail of everyone’s relationship to one another memorized.

I thought tonight’s episode was just OK, but it was coming off of (IMO) one of the best episodes ever so it would be hard to top that. The surgery with Jack just felt like filler, since we obviously know he survives with no effects. I liked all the side stories in the episode though.

I heard her say “Jack doesn’t get back before eight, I could come over (stop by? stay?) for about an hour.” I got the impression she was making arrangements to visit someone, not discussing a previous encounter.

Anyone with DVR want to clarify?

Kate’s phone conversation “I’ll just have the nanny stay an extra couple of hours. Jack’s never home before 8 anyway. I could stay for at least an hour.”

The headline is the reverse and the Yankees are the ones thumping the Red Sox. Lostpedia says the paper refers to an August 30, 2007 game, but I don’t think that the producers went in to enough detail. Jack complains about Alex Rodriguez and he didn’t do much in the August 30, 2007 game.

Haven’t we known that since episode 8? We knew then who all the O6 are.

Yeah, not as good as last week, but still pretty good. I was really surprised to see how ineffective TCM was in handling the mercenaries. Poor CFL. She was one of my favorites.

IIRC, Claire was told that it was her influence specifically that was required when raising Aaron.

Ben isn’t one of the O6 either. There was some speculation that others non-O6 slipped off the island. Of course, we now know Ben got back the hard way.

Last night’s episode was decent. Not great, but decent. I too thought Jack was implying he knew that Aaron was his blood relative.

I’m thinking Aaron must have done something really bizarre to get Jack to want to have nothing to do with him.

Interstingly, Jack said Sawyer “chose” to stay. Not that he *had * to stay. Plus, Jack said he saved Kate’s life.

One other real big plus of this episode was a lot of Bernard scenes. He is just a down right decent guy. I really like his character.

I also liked Juliet’s confession to Kate and then her reveal that she knew Jack was awake.

A neccessary episode. I just don’t like Jack/Kate centric episodes. I doubt this thread will last until next week like the Ben flashforward episode did!

My reasons (after a night to sleep on it) for thinking this was a weak episode: Well, of course the plot wasn’t advanced. The whole Jack is sick thing was dopey since we know he survived (unless Juliet planted a tracking device in him). I’m not sure I like “Lost” turning into an out and out ghost story. It’s good the Losties don’t trust the newbies now, but of course since Sawyer went overboard on Miles, Claire disappeared.

My favorite episodes deal with the characters I find most interesting (or, ok, attractive) – Desmond, Penny, Sayid, Hurley, Ben, Sawyer. This one had just barely enough Sawyer.

Did like the exchange between Dan and Useless Charlotte about the source of energy at the medical station. “Add that one to the list.”

Jack’s comment about Sawyer choosing to stay tells us he is ALIVE on the island. Judging from the comment, I don’t think he dies doing anything to save Kate or anyone else, he just chooses to be left behind.

Miles actually has powers?! And all along I though he was a bit of a phony. I’d like to see some more development on his character. Also, why $3.2 Million?

Oh, and Charlotte needs a big punch in the face.

Or at least he was alive when they left him.
You can almost see it coming for the season finale with a Sawyer helicopter scene:
“Here, take Aaron and get him to safety. I’ve got to go back to find Claire!”

It will be interesting to see how the Oceanic 6 get reunited before leaving on the season finale. Jack, Kate, and Sun are at the beach. I assume Aaron will be there soon delivered by Sawyer. Hurley’s still out in the woods looking for the cabin with Locke/Ben and Sayid is still on the boat.

Whoa whoa whoa whoa!

Is that a spoiler or you just guessing?

I was pretty sure he had powers all along. Especially when he wanted to go to see Naomi’s body.

What I was wondering is why they let Charlotte go to the medical station? She wasn’t neccessary to get the supplies and Jin had to guard two people instead of one.

I voiced this complaint to my wife and her response was spot on: “Well. If she didn’t go, whatever development that is going to occur with her in the next scene would not be able to happen.”

Nailed it.

It has said on numerous ABC promos that this season is leading up that event.

Not a spoiler based on the rules of the thread.

Also, someone on another baord pointing out a potential funny: many speculate that the ghosts are the smoke monster. If so, Jack saw the smoke monster after a smoke detector malfunctioned! :smack:

Just a guess based on the producers saying this season will wrap up with the O6 leaving the island.
I just assumed they’d all be leaving together and the helicopter seems to be the only way off right now (besides Ben’s secret teleportation warp to the desert).

I don’t think that Jack’s appendicitis should be written off as only filler just yet. They never gave it a huge sense of danger (as has been pointed out that would’ve been pointless given living-Jack flashforwards) but it does set Jack up to be in a weakened state for a while.
And I wondered the same thing, middleman. I guess her going along was required so Jin would be able to figure out Charlotte speaks Korean. I missed how she even got invited. Daniel says “I should go”, Juliet says "OK, then suddenly Charlotte is going to. Did I miss the excuse/reason(ing)?
