There were two very short scenes. Here’s the transcript.
Upon further thought, another question: how did Richard get to and from the island? When did he first go to the island? Hm?
I’m under the impression that Richard’s presence on the island dates back to the Black Rock. I think he was one of those who originally arrived on the ship. When you consider that we’ve seen him in various flashbacks at many different points in time, including an appearance in colonial dress during the episode where Ben runs into the jungle as a child would seem to suggest that Richard has been there an awfully long time, and appears to have been immune to the aging process throughout.
I’m just re-watching this episode, and when Emily says she’s 6 months pregnant in the hospital, I went back to see what she looked like when she was dancing in her room. She’s as slim as can be imagined. So, this was either a blooper, or she wasn’t hit by a car the same night as the opening scene.
I agree with your point, but one thing thats annoyed me is the way they’ve had other characters respond to him. I know that Keamy is a loose cannon who will kill anyone in his way, but the way people act toward him you would think he was Hitler with the entire SS behind him. I mean Ben has shown himself to much more of a monster than Keamy could ever dream of being. After dealing with him, how scary is some mercenary really?
I really never found Ben scary, but I associate the element of unpredictability with “scary”. Ben is master of manipulation and psychological maneuvering, but he’s never murdered anyone outright with the sort of sadistic, coldblooded ease that Keamy possesses. Most of Ben’s threats have been empty ones, and several characters (including Keamy) have called him on his bluffs. The thing that makes Keamy scary is that he isn’t bluffing.
The more I think about it, the “who is more evil Ben or Keamy?” question is really interesting. The reason I think Ben is more of a monster is because he believes his end justifies any means. Ben has orchestrated genocide, murdered his own father, allowed his daughter to be shot, sent Goodwin to his death, and more. I guess the difference to me is Keamy will kill someone if they get in the way not think twice about it. Ben, on the other hand, will plan and orchestrate any atrocity if he believes it serves his means. I guess its a difference of magnitude. Keamy is the thug who will shoot you for $20 bucks. Ben is the Pol Pot-like dictator who will kill millions in pursuit of his ends.
Remind me who is Christian(from the cabin), again?
Jack (and Claire’s) father.
I figure whatever evil the psychic was worried about if Aaron is raised by another is behind removing Aaron from Claire’s hands. Whatever is calling them back to the island in present time is also calling Aaron back to Claire, still on the island.
I, too, am squicked out by Jack and Kate, and the “family”. I hate Kate with a vengeance, and can’t understand why both Jack and Sawyer haven’t stabbed the lying bitch yet.
I was totally betting it was going to turn out to be Christian Shepherd until I realized the timeline wouldn’t be right. Then I remembered… time is… relative.
I don’t blame you for not recognizing him. He looks like he has aged a lot since the series began. I wonder if he’s sick.
I know he’s dead, I mean the actor.
When and how did we find out Christian is Claire’s father as well?
(damn this show is a convoluted mess, yet I still watch)
Could be a plot twist coming up:
Richard: Ben never told you what happened to your father.
Locke : He told me enough … I killed my father.
Richard : No, Locke, I am your father.
Locke : Nooooooo!
We had hints of it in season 2, but there was a backstory (I think in Season 3) where we find out for sure. But Claire and Jack don’t know they share a father.
'Cause she puts out, of course.
It was the one where Claire has her hair dyed black right?
Yeah, it seems like the psychic and Jacob are working against each other.
Yeah but Ben you could pretty much kick his ass if he steps out of line. You just might die 10 years later once his plans come to fruition. Keamy is a freakin crazy gorilla on steroids with a machinegun. If he’s the mercenary and you are unarmed, it’s pretty freakin scary (unless you’re Sayid).
There is possibly a subtle clue to this in the transcript:
RICHARD: What you got there?
BEN: It’s a birthday present. Mine just happens to be today. You do remember birthdays, don’t you Richard?
Sure sounds like a pointed comment as to his age, doesn’t it?
Yeah, I’m with you, I think we gotta go with blooper, or at least stretching believability. I can imagine she would be trying to hide the pregnancy from her mother, and therefore wearing a girdle. But you think they would’ve given her just a little bit wider waistline, something that might look reasonable in retrospect.
It’s definitely the same night, 'cause Mom’s chasing her out, calling after her, and then warning her about the car. She’s wearing the same outfit, and has the same red coat and plastic purse she picked up off the bed when she darts out into the street.
I’ve also never seen anyone bopping around like that to “Everyday.”
