Lost 4.11: "Cabin Fever"

Diceman, I respect your insights into this whole messy tale, but I can’t really get behind this one. I agree that there is much about her story that we don’t know, but Rousseau speaks with a heavy french accent, and made the distress signal 16 years earlier in french. I can’t believe that she is actually Annie, who had no accent whatsoever. (If this was JJ Abram’s Alias, I would expect that kind of twist…) The truth about the french expedition remains to be discovered, but now that she’s dead we may never get any more of that story.

Here’s my theory on Ben and Annie…I think Ben fell in love with Annie, and got her pregnant, leading to Annie and the baby’s death. Ben blamed Dharma for not saving her, had a mental break, and willingly went along with killing them all starting with his father (for bringing him there in the first place.) This sets up his preoccupation with solving the birth problems, and leads to his finding Juliet (who looks just like his lost love Annie.)

As a side story, the Others have taken CFL’s baby, and Ben takes her as his own to replace the baby he lost. Now having said that, I suspect that theory is just a bit too neat…Rousseau never reacted the way I would have expected, when dealing with the man who took her child. She obviously hated Ben, but she never really challenged him over whether he was her father. So there is probably more to that story, but I don’t think it goes as far as Diceman suggests.

Yeah, I saw that bullet hole too and wondered the same thing. The Hostiles did have a history of armed aggression against the DI’s, so maybe it’s not anything…but it was pretty prominently placed on top, wasn’t it?

I say Richard’s a robot.

Boy howdy! wouldn’t that be a kicker!!

Here everyone’s thinking about mystical longevity, reincarnation, and ghosts and we find out Richard and Christian are robots. That’d be awesome.

Hmmm…now THAT is something I don’t think anyone else has suggested. Or perhaps Richard is just another part of Smokey?

I think I’ve figured out why Miles was hired for the mission. He said that he’s trying to capture Ben, but that’s probably an overall mission for the Freighter people, not a job that’s specifically for Miles. No, I think that Miles was hired to locate Jin’s gold watch.

Here’s my thinking: Charlotte knows Korean. That’s a huge hint that Sun’s dad (the Korean crime boss) is involved with the Dharma Initiative. Jin was on the plane because he was delivering a gold watch to someone in America. That’s a rather strange assignment, especially for a guy who doesn’t speak English. There’s got to be more to that watch than meets the eye; somehow, it’s vitally important for Dharma to get that watch back. However, they have no way of knowing that Jin survived the crash. For all they know, Jin is one of hundreds of charred corpses littering the Island. Having a guy who can talk to spirits come along might be the only way they can find that watch. That’s why they hired Miles.

I suspect that we’ll learn in a flashback that Miles talked to Jin about the watch while he was with Jack’s group. He now knows that the watch left the island with Michael, which is why he was focusing on the group assignment of capturing Ben. Now that Jin knows how important the watch is, he can’t go back to Sun’s dad and tell him that he gave the watch away to some loser from New York. Therefore, he’s planning to stay on the island, and have Sun tell everybody that he died in the crash. Miles can tell the Dharma people that Michael stole the watch from Jin’s corpse.

I think Miles must be there to discover the whereabouts of Jacob or Christian. They seem to be dead at least deadish. Maybe they don’t know exactly who’s dead, but know the island has powers to bring back the dead and are searching for answers.
Maybe they’re all dead except the Losties.

While I don’t think Miles connection is right, I could see the watch/Sun’s dad connection being right.
