Well, we’re coming down to the end of Day One, and I hate the idea of voting for either of the frontrunners. I think they’re both town–Meeko would have to have Idle Thoughts-level audacity to be a scum playing the way he is, and Pedescribe hasn’t really done anything terribly noteworthy since I FOSed him at the beginning of the day. The whole situation feels very blue-on-blue to me.
I spent some time looking over Ichini Sanshigo and Telcontar, because they both relatively prominently flip-flopped on the helpfulness/scumminess of another player (story and pede respectively). Neither really pinged my scumdar hard but they’re both better prospects than our vote leaders at this point, simply because they did something tangible.
The idea of looking at who was opposed to a mass claim is a potential lead too, and thus the case against Imaginary Fiend has some potential merit–I’d like to see a response there though.
For now, since I have my tendency to pop off and forget about voting deadlines, vote Ichini Sanshigo
for flip-flopping on Storyteller’s list being helpful and potentially scummy–this also ties in with the implication that the scum needed to get aliases to correct mass claim imbalance issues, as Storyteller’s list would have been tremendously helpful for us non-LOST-watching townies in the event of a mass name claim in our apparently color-appropriate game.
This also means Storyteller’s got a few ounces of townie cred he didn’t have before, too.
Z, I agree that Meeko isn’t really a good target any more. I also agree we can find scum between the flip-floppers and anti-roleclaimers, but I don’t see one in particular yet. So I’m going to do something I don’t like to do unvote without a corresponding vote. We’ve got until tomorrow at noon (ET?) so I’m comfortable in my ability to reread Day 1 by then and get a vote in.
Good, now i can unvote pedescribe without automatically lynching meeko
unvote pedescribe
So this post caught my eye way back when. I commented at 107 (http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showpost.php?p=11234139&postcount=107) that I thought it went too far, especially in that it seemed to read scumminess in brainstorming. The more I thought/learned about the name claim and the math behind it (especially when i realized just how small the LOST cast was), the more i came to believe that the scum would be deathly opposed to it. Imaginary Feind really does stand out as unique in their level of opposition.
Once again, today is a day of fairly weak signals etc, but this is the best bet now that we know the scum weren’t secretly laughing behind their sleeves at the name claim.
vote imaginary feind
This is in part to force a reply to Tom’s case, I’d really like to see imaginary feind’s thoughts and don’t want them to fly under the radar
The people that are voting Meeko currently really should be unvoting him. He claimed Sawyer(I wouldn’t worry about original Sawyer, I’d be somewhat surprised if he was in the game), hasn’t been counter claimed, and did so well before Mahaloth made his announcement regarding cover roles for the scum. I don’t believe for a second that Sawyer is anything other than Town, which means that Meeko is more or less definately Town. Is he playing in an anti-town fashion? It’s debatable, but I would chalk that up to inexperience more than anything else.
I really dislike it when the rules change mid stream. It seems obvious now that the mass name claim would have broken the game, so I understand why it had to be done. Doesn’t mean I have to like it though.
At the moment, I’m going to vote for Imaginary Fiend. The way he came out against the name claim idea, with ridiculously over the top hyperbole about it’s consequences, just screams desperate scum that knew his team would be completely screwed over by it. I wouldn’t be surprised if he had one of the names that would have been lynched on sight if he claimed it, such as Ben or Mikhail.
Here’s an interesting datapoint - one of the recurring themes of toDay has been whether everyone’s character and alignments match. Now, Scum with Scummy names would not want to say they match, obviously, but there would be a risk with lying - if say 13 people said their names matched and 4 said they didn’t because the names were too Scummy, we would have found those outliers suspicious.
The safest move for Scum would be to not say anything.
Now, I am not saying that everyone on the following list is definitely Scum, or that anyone not on the list definitely isn’t. But I believe Scum would have avoided the issue. (Also, I apologise if this list is somehow wrong - modify it as you see fit pending new evidence)
People who claimed character/alignment matching only after Mahaloth announced aliases for Scum: storyteller
People who have said nothing about their alignment matching: Chronos
BillMC
Zeriel
ShadowFacts
Jimmy Chitwood
Ichini Sanshigo
It is my belief that this list may have a higher Scum density than the rest of Town. Cross-referencing this list with existing suspects, out pops Ichini. So, based on the flipflop over the usefulness of the characters list, as pointed out by Chronos and Zeriel, coupled with the lack of mentioning whether character and alignment match, I will shift my vote.
Just for the record, I thought I would do a lurker check, as I am wont to do on Day One. So, as of post 407, here’s a patented ShadowFacts Post Count ™:
BillMC is the clear winner here - he didn’t post a single thing until post 230, and only 3 total. I should also note that paulwhoisaghost posted five times early, and has since pretty much disappeared.
For those who haven’t played with me before, this count is not just number of posts, it’s the number of game-related posts. I do not include fluff posts, joke posts, or anything that is not minimally game-related. The bar is low, but is by necessity somewhat subjective.
I am not advocating lynching any low posters here, just trying to find who is hiding in plain sight. Let’s go, people, time to start playing!
In the first quote from Tom, he is telling me that there is NOT an elephant in the room.
Then, I explained what I meant by “elephant”, as in, a big unresolved issue.
Allwalker then answers my general question. (Hopefully no one took offense with my stance on appearing more neutral than just being Meeko-centric)
Then tom gets on my case, stating that I “play dumb”.
Tom, is your issue that I took a more neutral than normal stance? Wasn’t I chewed out by multiple people for talking too much about myself? What does this hurt? Being neutral seems to have more of an advantage than not;
We now know what Allwalker means with “semi-confirmed”. We got strictly more information from him, than If I HAD played dumb. That is to say, I was NOT playing it dumb here. We didn’t lose a cycle of play here to useless information. If I had done as I believe you are suggesting, we would still not have this information.
Yes, I wanted unvotes. who, short of a Jester, doesn’t?
As it was, I have the unvote I was looking for, but I feel a LOT better with how I got it, over how you appear to be suggesting I could have gotten it.
Subjectively, I’d say of the 5’s, Cardinalfang and Ichini both strike me as having contributed much less than storyteller or paul (who started the ball rolling on the alignment-name match exercise). Also, #2 on the list is a clear reminder that post count =/= post quality =).
**
Back when I was leading the vote count [Let’s face it, I was.] there was a lot of discussion about the fact that one of the five people voting for me, based on math alone (IIRC) had to be Scum.
**
BillMC has voted for me.
BillMC has a very limited post count.
BillMC has not commented on Role or Allignment.
My Logic took a major beating with Crimson and the Mislynch of Allwalker.
Therefore, to borrow a new term to me, and to use it for the first time:
**
FOS BillMC**
Can someone tell me what I missed?
Hence, I am not looking at Pede too much here. I also see Jimmy Chitwood is in the short list from Allwalker.
I need time to think here. But I wanted to posit this.
I did claim my name and alignment match, and before the rule change. The rest of your list looks accurate, though.
ShadowFacts, I agree in principle with counting game-related posts (I did something similar in the last game), but I think the weekend start might be throwing things off a bit (several players said from the outset that they can’t participate on weekends).
**
I tend to agree**, Chronos. I think this might be in the mix. After I posted the FOS on Bill, I searched his user name to see if he was in affect AWOL from the game. --Posting to other SDMB threads, but not to Mafia. -This would indicate definite lurking, over being MIA.
Turns out, BillMC only returns to 4 threads. 3 Mafia Games (This, Crimson, and Not so Simpletown, IIRC.) and a 4th non-mafia Game Thread.
I find that interesting. But, I figure I should point it out, in the order of fairness.
Yes, I think you are onto something there Meeko. Last game, BillMC said he could not post from home or something like that due to his ISP - but he said the problem was fixed. It is also odd that his entire contribution to the game so far has been:
Critisized Meeko’s WoW
Voted for Meeko
Agreed with me for my vote on Meeko.
Access issues could explain the low post count, but not the one-track mind. If Bill doesn’t start speaking up by toMorrow he may find himself in some bad ways with Town. If nothing else he risks being subbed out.
Even for a lurker his plays have been questionable.
I don’t want to jinx it, but I feel I have a new lease on life now. [Well, Ironically, I kinda do, at least for this game. :).]
Thank you Tel. I do respect your play. Too bad we had too little of it in Crimson. Your comments in the forbidden thread and after Crimson really clue me in on what we lost in that game.
