Well … I certainly was. 
I was able to watch the whole first season over the summer and this thread was a lot of fun. I’m happy to give it a bump here for the folks who just got the DVDs and are seeing it for the first time. I had a good time reading the individual episode threads, and eventually I went through the whole questions thread too.
I can’t wait for the second season! I’ll miss the instant gratification of having all the episodes available when I want them instead of having to stretch it over a whole season, but I’ll live.

It was fun to see everyone’s wild guesses and arguments. And I admit to skimming some, because damn. That was a whole buncha speculatin’ there.
No… But I’ve just been waiting in intense agony all summer for September to roll around! 
As my Commander-in-Chief requests … something occurred to me while I was outside on my smoke break. I watched only the first four episodes last night, but it got me thinking.
Kate’s flashbacks go in reverse chronological order. First “Tabula Rasa” and her capture by the marshal. Then “Whatever the Case May Be”, where we get a good look at the bank robbery. And finally “Born to Run”, where we see the time-capsule with the toy plane inside. (We could discuss how she was clearly on the lam before the bank robbery, but we’ve done that to death.)
So, I started thinking about Jack’s flashbacks. In “White Rabbit”, we see the events that brought him to Australia. In “All the Best Cowboys Have Daddy Issues”, he gets his father canned. In “Do No Harm”, he gets married, and his good relationship with his father pretty much guarantees it took place before “Cowboys.”
The question … was Jack wearing a wedding ring in the “Cowboys” flashbacks? There’s no mention of it in that episode’s thread. I can, of course, just wait until I get home and study the DVDs, but there may be somebody out there who isn’t at work right now and can do it immediately. 'Cause I don’t have a problem with instant gratification, or anything.
No – no rings of any kind on his fingers.
First scene, his hands were covered with surgical gloves. Second flashback, the camera never showed the hands. Third flashbacsk scene was Jack in office with dad, who wanted him to sign the paperwork claiming that the patient’s death was not preventable. Hands clearly visible in that scene – no rings.
Thank you for saving me at least four hours of agonizing.
Just a small point, but Lost is currently airing in the U.K. I’ve not been following it - and so don’t mind spoilers - but I guess some U.K. Dopers have.
Whew. Just watched the entire season this week. All I can say now is: :eek:
Why yes, yes I did just go through all 24 LOST threads on this board.
I thought it was funny that Jin was the one who couldn’t understand English, because when he and Jin speak Korean, he speaks Korean with a very strong American accent, while Sun’s accent is flawless. :dubious: It bugged me the entire time. (But he’s hot, so it doesn’t matter really. 
) Not to mention that Sun’s English is waaaaaay too good. For heaven’s sake, I teach English here in Seoul, and believe you me that people can study for years on end and not be able to speak like that. When her English was accented it sounded a bit forced.
But other than that nitpick, this series rocks.
Yes, well, you might just have to forgive the producers for not being able to fool your average person teaching English in Korea.
I don’t know about Yunjin Kim, but I know that Daniel Dae Kim speaks English perfectly. I was surprised he spoke Korean convincingly - convincingly for someone who, you know, speaks English and French (badly).

Yes, I know, I’m being anal. :o I’m aware that most of the audience doesn’t speak Korean. (I’m Korean, btw.) IIRC, Yujin Kim also speaks English quite fluently in real life, which accounts for her fluctuating accent during the series. I just wish I could turn off the part of my brain that understands Korean when I watch Lost.
Yeah, who cares. I just want Season 2 to start NOW. 
In one of the special feature documentaries Daniel Dae Kim talks about how he’s never acted in Korean before, and how he hadn’t really spoken it regularly since he lived with his parents. What cracks me up is that many of my friends who watch the show are absolutely amazed that he speaks English at all, let alone well. (I’m an Angel fan, so I knew damn well he could speak English.)
HazelNut, how accurate is the subtitling when Sun and Jin are speaking Korean on the show? I know Shannon’s translation of the French transmission was awful, but I assume that was on purpose. I just wonder if we’re missing something in the subtitled scenes.

Actually, what’s worse for those of us who are obsessed is on the bits of Korean dialog that they don’t subtitle.
“What are they saying? Dammit, what are they saying?!! Oh, crap, now I have to go learn Korean before next season!”
Yeah, neither am I.
The subtitling is more or less accurate… although it’s more the gist of what they’re talking about, rather than a word-for-word translation. I have to say that the dialogue itself is well-written and actually sounds like how Koreans would normally talk.
The only time I was well and truly pissed was the Jin flashback, when he’s at that random person’s house (the dude he was suppose to beat up) and the news is going on in the background (and Hurley is on the TV). Because the Korean newscaster is atrocious. Her Korean is worse than anyone else’s on the entire show. I know it’s a tiny detail but you’d think they could get any random Korean to read those few setences.
But anyway. I was reading the past threads and had to laugh when people were theorizing that Jin was trying to poison Claire with his sea urchin (or at least try it out on other people to make sure it’s safe). First because sea urchin is a really common food in Korea, and second because he was telling Claire that it was an especially good food for pregnant women. Pretty sweet of him I though.
I re-read some of those early threads after the season finale and there was some pretty wild-ass theorizing going on in the beginning.

I started to, but after I watched the two-part opener, a friend who totally missed it last year said he wanted to get caught up in order to watch season two. So I stopped, and starting next week he’s going to come over and cram with me, two or three installments at a time (or more, depending on how badly he gets hooked, heh heh). Don’t know if we’ll get all the way through everything before the premiere, but hey, that’s what TiVo is for.

If anyone has the DVDs, can they comment on the additional footage that wasn’t aired on television? Specifically, was there additional character development, or were there plot dead ends? Not sure whether this should be in spoiler boxes or not.

There was a trailer for season 2 in one of the recent reruns.
Apparent new information, which I’ll put in a spoiler box, even though it’s probably not necesary.
They showed the hatch, and then another angle where a metal plate had raised letters that said “QUARANTINE”. Now, we saw the hatch last season plenty, and I don’t remember seeing this QUARANTINE. I certainly hope there’s a good explanation for this - if the word just suddenly appears, it would suggest the writers are just making this stuff up as they go.
