I just skimmed the thread, so I don’t know if this was addressed, but who was being signaled when the Others in the temple sent up that rocket/firework? Because at the end, it looked like Jacob/Locke was starting to walk towards the temple. But weren’t the others actively trying to guard against him? So why signal him?
I think they were signalling the rest of the Others, who were on the beach with Richard. Richard looked alarmed when he saw the flare, but didn’t have time to react before Flocke came out and sucker-punched him.
They were signallng Richard’s group to either tell him “Something bad is happening get back here right away” or, if their code is really specific, “Jacob is dead, get back here ASAP”.
UnLocke may or may not know what it means, but it doesn’t exactly take a genius.

Holy Crap! My head hurts! We don’t get LOST in the UK until Friday and this thread has me completely confused!
Yes, the DHARMA barracks were there (even the swingset, iirc) so it gives the island about a 30 year span of when it would go underwater. I’m not sure how that would solve Jacob’s problem as he has mortal attributes (seeing as he was killed by Ben). Changing history to have the island underwater surely would have killed everyone.
Another question occurred to me: if the Others at the temple knew that Smokey can be kept out by the Magic Line of Sand or Whatever, why didn’t they have the temple surrounded with it in the first place? That’s like not bothering to lock your front door until you know for a fact that there’s a burglar on the way. Kinda stupid.
Then again, the characters on Lost do tend to be a bit dim . . .
Maybe they do, and we’re just seeing them making sure that the area is secure by reinforcing their defenses.
Or maybe there’s a yin and yang or M.A.D. relationship between Jacob and Esau that involved access to the temple. As long as Jacob was alive, Esau would stay out of the temple?
Wait, WHAT? I missed that completely.
Yes, but I think the point of that alternate theory is that “underwater island with everyone dead” was the original timeline. And Jacob would have changed this to “save the island” – even though it meant that Jacob would get dead in the process (i.e. Ben killing him). In fact… (and I don’t think I really need to spoiler this, but just in case there’s anybody who hasn’t yet read all the Harry Potter books…)
between last season and this one, I was getting a big Dumbledore vibe about Jacob. i.e. sacrificing oneself just before the final volume, to ensure things head the right way towards the endgame
So in the idea of that specific theory, the “change” to history was not to make the island go underwater. It would have been to make the island NOT be underwater (where underwater was the end result in the original state of things).
I’m not saying that theory is what will be correct – I’m just stating what would be consistent with that particular idea.
Ahh, that clears up that theory a bit.
not sure if this is correct for the marriage situation for Sun and Jin, but in Korean custom the women usually keep their maiden names. So people will still call her Paik Sun Hwa, and Jin would obviously be still Kwon Jin Soo. Their children will be given the last name of the male.
Not sure about the rings though, perhaps they were trying to downplay it or something. Or that Jin is working for Sun’s dad in this timeline and they aren’t married yet. He needs to prove to Sun’s dad that he’s worthy like Desmond and Penny thing.
It’s my belief and it fits with what the producers have said.
A few thoughts:
1. Desmond did not really exist on the plane. As far as I recall, only Jack interacted with him. It’s a figment of Jack’s imagination, a short-circuit between the time streams.

Jacob reincarnated in Sayid.

As happy as I am to see Claire again…happy in the pants, especially…I noticed that they didn’t show her body. Is she pregnant?
Also, you might want to think about your typical “circle against evil things”.
If the evil thing is on the inside, they tend to be pretty helpless. However, if it’s the other way around, then you’re the prisoner. Furthermore, as we saw with Ilana’s buddy, Esau can act pretty much however he wants if you’re the one who is trapped. Sure, he can’t cross the circle and crush the life out of you, but he can put you under siege by throwing trees at your defenses. And then you’ll probably starve.

Of course she was. Remember, she was on the flight to LA to give up the baby she was carrying. That’s why she was in the cab.

Could the underwater-ness be a result of when Ben made it disappear by turning the big wheel?
Sure, but enough other things changed (notably Hurley’s luck) that I wouldn’t be surprised if that changed as well. Unless I missed it her belly was never on-screen, so I couldn’t be sure.
Both times the wheel turned was after the crash. So, no crash, no wheel turnings. Presumably.

Yeah, she could be non-pregnant and on the plane for some other reason, like finding her half-brother.
