Lost: The Journey. What is NOT important?

If anyone watched tonight’s “Lost: The Joruney” recap did you notice what wasn’t included? Are the writers trying to tell us what isn’t important?

**No Backstories. ** OK, they probably just didn’t have time to put them in. No reason to give one backstory if they couldn’t all of them.

No Special Numbers. Now this seems very, very odd. No mention of 815 or the Lotto Numbers. None. Nada. Zilch. How could they not be important?

Nothing about the death of Scott/Steve. Was he just a throw-away guy? Maybe. At any rate, no mention that he was killed (except that Ethan said he would kill someone).

No Adam and Eve. They were mentioned in several episodes, but nothing about them.

No Black and White. No mention all the Black/White references.

Any ideas if there are clues burried in this recap? Quite interesting how they ended it: What if you failed (Jack) and lost your faith? What if you failed (Locke) and had your faith renewed? [or something to that effect]

What *exactly *were the words in the reply to Boones message in the plane?

That’s the one thing I still want to know.

I didn’t watch last night’s recap thing because I had a meeting. I taped it though. Anyway, I do know about the message, it’s been confirmed on the Fuselage and the new previews show it. The previews repeat the Boone scene but this time the response is clearer. The other voice on the radio says …

I am not spoilering this so look away if you think it’s a spoiler …

“We’re the survivors of flight 815!”

They said 4 new episodes, back-to-back, correct?

I was surprised they didn’t show the empty casket of Jack’s dad.

I was disappointed; I thought there’d be new material.

And the second-person narration was irritating, and IMHO added nothing.

Was the narration done by Jack’s Dad, the guy who was dead before he got to the island?

I thought it was interesting that they had Locke pointing out the real issue is that there are People Out There who are the real problem, and the next thing Jack decides to deal with is go hunt down Locke…

Also not important: the 30-odd people on the island who have no names, stories, or background.

The only thing I got from last night’s waste of time ( not that I think Lost is waste of time, I’d just rather see a new episode. If I wanted a recap I’d go to TWOP) was the halo around the hobbit’s head as he was lying on the ground waiting for Jack to resurrect him. For some reason it seemed to stand out more for me last night. Maybe it’s just because I already knew he was going to resurrected. Never mind.

I don’t think there was any mention of Walt’s strange “luck”.

Or the polar bears.

I must have missed that. What do you mena by luck ?

On the last shot of the preview for next week…

Am I losing it, or did they add a gunshot noise for the last frames that wasn’t there the first time they showed it?

Hurley owes him tens of thousands of dollars due to an impossible streak of luck playing backgammon.

Also not important is that Hurley is worth over $150 million (which should come as a surprise to Walt & his dad if they ever get back, because he can afford to pay his gambling debt…).

Oh, and Hurley’s curse. That’s not important, either.

That the marshall died, or the woman drowned, too.

And where is Ruby’s husband?

I didn’t expect any new material, and I thought the narration was very well done.
So there! :stuck_out_tongue:

I was also hoping that they’d clean up the received radio message that Boone got, but that didn’t happen. I guess we have to rely on the cleaned up version in the previews.

Can’t remember whether or not I noticed the first time around, but CFL sounded distinctly French-Canadian to me when she was speaking English. Also, in her radio message, is she really saying “It killed them all”, as translated by Shannon, or is she saying something like “It took them all”? My French isn’t very good, and the sound isn’t particularly clear, but it doesn’t sound like 'It killed them all" to me.

Well ** John Mace** I guess if she is French Canadian, she could be Ethans Mother. There are quite a few French speakers in Ontario.

MtM

I didn’t say it wasn’t well done; I said it didn’t add anything, and I stand by that.

McDeath_the_Mad, you’re assuming Ethan really is Canadian, just because he said he was.

Keep in mind that this is primarily for people who missed some or all of the episodes. The narration, I thought, helped the flow of the material and by anticipating the “right” questions, made it easier for the newbie to focus on what is important in the storyline that dialogue doesn’t explain.

But yes, for us seasoned vets the narration didn’t add much. Except maybe at the very end, as per the OP, in setting up the battle between Jack and Locke in upcoming episodes.

I also like the Rod Serling-esque nature of the voice and scripting for the narrator.

I missed the first half of the season, so this recap was interesting for me. I picked up lots of stuff I had been wondering about.

Also left out: Locke told the crowd there are others on the island, but in the actual show he revealed that the boy burned the raft…

I think they left a lot out for time reasons, not that it wasn’t important. Some stuff was probably left out to not give too much away about what may be coming next.

I thought it said

“There were no survivors of flight 815”

Boone said he was a survivor, the other end said there were no survivors

And thus the debate that has been raging on all the Lost message boards for weeks.

What I found is that sound effects and the music drowned out the radio transmission during the episode, but in the clip of that scene played in the TV commercial it was clearly what Wile E said.

The narration?

Horrible.

Had I encountered this episode as my first introduction to the series, the narration would have completely turned me off to the show.

The questions were for the most part dumb and cliche and unnecessary. The tone and voice were condescending. It was just completely stupid.

If they wanted to do a “review” episode, they should have done a special with quick cast interview clips interspersed with scenes from the movie. That would have done well to introduce newbies, and would be interesting to old hands too.

And no one would have to cringe at the old man’s narration.
