Makes me wish that the Japanese EE’s came with the statues.

Are they going to put out a set that is the special editions of all three movies?

I didn’t buy the other special editions. The EE’s, yes, but not with Gollum or the Argonath.

But now I have no choice. I MUST have Minas Tirith. I’ll have to start putting in some overtime to afford it, but it’ll be worth it. :slight_smile:

Do we know when it’s going to be available?

Early December, last I heard. Pushed back a bit from the original date of mid-November.

Same here. The Argonath are on my desk at work and I adore them.

Argonath here, got the one Gollum (not its match tho), so gonna get MT & probably MM also! I expected the Minases for TT.

I was hoping the Two Towers had bookends of Orthanc and Barad-Dur. Oh well.

I won’t be skipping on Minas Tirith though. Is that an extra DVD inside?

I haven’t bought the EEs of either with the bonus, just the EE DVD set. My mother, however, decided to get me the big talking Smeagol/Gollum action figure for Christmas last year. Yes, it was intended as a joke. Yet I think some people at work are jealous.

What match? The TT:EE came with a Gollum statue, nothing else.

If you bought the TTT: EE gift set, you got the “Smeagol” statue. Inside was a pamphlet with an offer for you to buy a “Gollum” statue which was very similar but with an angry, teeth-baring posture. This is it, IIRC.

From a LOTR fansite, they showed some footage of the Extended Edition at the San Diego Comic Con

Confirmed release date is December (rather than November) and there will be 50 minutes of additional footage! :eek:

Here is some of the shots revealed:

  • Shots of Saruman on top of Orthanc, saying things like “something festers in the heart of middle-earth” , “you are all going to die”, " I want no pity or mercy!", saruman shooting flames from his staff (I know this sounds kinda hokey but I thought it looked pretty good)

  • Frodo/Sam/Gollum approaching the crossroads. we see sam looking at something and then there is a closeup (pics of which have already appeared online) of the statue’s head and it’s crown

  • frodo/sam in orc costumes marching with orcs, big orc yelling “move on!”

  • Merry saying “I know there isn’t much hope, I know I can’t do much. I’m just a hobbit. But I want to help”

  • Mouth of sauron rides out, there is a closeup on his mouth (which looked pretty gross) as he says " I have a token I was bidden to show thee" and then he reveals frodo’s mithril vest and throws it down to the ground. then there is a closeup of pippin who says “frodo…”

  • Eowyn in bed at edoras, Aragorn is walking away from her but before he can get too far she reaches out and takes his hand.

  • eomer grieving for eowyn (seen in theatrical trailer)

  • sam in mordor looking at the dark, red lit sky telling mr. frodo that he sees a light.

  • aragorn picks up flaming palantir and says something, the only word I caught was “Elendil”

  • gandalf riding up to witch king making threats, something about sending it into the abyss, witch king responds with his own threat while his sword becomes enflamed.

  • misc. new shots of the siege of gondor, orcs using small battering ram, fell beast swooping in and picking up soldiers

  • eowyn fighting gothmog (the one eyed orc captain)

  • faramir telling pippin about his childhood, boromir, and his father. pippin says that faramir has " a different kind of strength" and that his father will see it eventually.

  • Eowyn and Faramir hold hands and nuzzle at the houses of healing (women in the audience went especially nuts for this scene.)

  • aragorn/legolas/gimli run away from an avalanche of skulls in the paths of the dead

I wish it would have new footage/scenes showing Merry and Pippin’s heightening.

IIRC, they did address their heightening in TTT: EE. Did you want it addressed further in ROTK?

It was implied that Merry and Pippin merely imagined they’d grown taller. None of the other characters mentioned that they looked taller, and once reunited with Frodo and Sam the four hobbits were still roughly the same height.

Ah, I didn’t catch that. I guess having Merry and Pippin taller than Frodo and Sam would have added yet another layer of difficulty to the perspective shots when they are all together.

I figured Pippin growing taller was a temporary thing. When Merry measured himself to Pippin at the end, he was back to the same size: “back to normal”

Only Pippin grew taller since he drank a lot of the Ent Draught, where Merry only got splashes while they were fighting over it.

That’s my story and I’m sticking to it. :wink:
