Love Death and Robots Season 4 Netflix

New Season drop and deserves a thread.

A first live action entry. Cute enough I guess.

Overall the animation styles are the star here. And they are interesting. I just wish they were in service of better stories. Previous seasons better. Still worth watching.

Ooo, thanks for the reminder! I totally forgot the show existed! I’ll watch it tonight.

Saw that it dropped and binged all the episodes. None of the stories really grabbed me, but the animation and CGI is amazing. Was there really a live action episode ?
The one thing that stuck out: “cats” seemed to be a running theme

Golgotha.

I thought they were good. Better than Season 3, not as good as Season 1. I especially liked the Bruce Sterling story (spacewoman and pet) and the one with the naked dinosaur riders, but my favorite was the last one (cat vs. Satan), both in terms of animation and of writing.

This was also the first time I had actually read (or at least remembered reading) one of the short stories a segment was based on - “The 400 Boys”, from Sterling’s Mirrorshades cyberpunk anthology; perhaps not coincidentally, it was also my least favorite of them all.

I enjoyed the new season, though it didn’t have anything close to last season’s mind blowing Jibaro. I think my favorite episodes were the comedy ones, especially “Smart Appliance, Stupid Owners”, it was fun trying to recognize the actors playing each one. Roy Kent as the toilet was hilarious “Was I Stalin in a past life or something?”

The first season had a live action episode too - the mini-civilization evolving in a (live-action) couple’s freezer.

They switched the ending around from the story, which ruined it for me. They did a much better job with Sterling’s “Swarm” last season IMHO.

I don’t understand what the Red Hot Chili Peppers one was doing in this anthology, there was nothing genre about it.

My guess? RHCP and David Fincher wanted to make a Gerry Anderson-style video clip, and nobody was willing to tell them no.

That one was probably my favourite because it was kind of bonkers.

The dinosaur riders and the WW2 mission reminded me of the movie Heavy Metal (which I liked, but didn’t love).

The dinosaur riders especially reminded me of something out of classic Heavy Metal Magazine - a Moebius story, maybe.
