Eep, I think I qualify. I actually read here for a few years before I joined even as a guest.
I generally don’t speak unless I have something I really want to say, and I hate feeling like I’m ‘spamming’. I read a lot more than I post since I generally view the Dope a lot at work, and it’s much easier to read with interruptions than post.
I guess I qualify, with .30 posts per day. I am not able to access the Dope at work, so I don’t often post through the week as I can’t keep up with the direction of threads and respond promptly to any replies. So on the weekends I’ll make up for it a bit, but honestly, most of the time I don’t feel that I have anything important enough to say.
I agree- I have mixed thoughts on those with a huge thread count. On some days I feel they know a lot on all topics: on other days I think they are just know alls.
I don’t know which is correct- probably a bit of each. (Some contributors would fall distinctly into one or the other).
My post count as I type this is .50 posts per day, so I currently don’t qualify. So I’ll just sit quietly in the corner here for a few more days, until I do.
I read far more than I post - there are a lot of smart people here and I generally find that any point I might make gets made without me being involved. In fact, as proof of this, even this observation has already been made upthread.
When I do post, it’s generally in Cafe Society about old movies.
Spurting lurker here (and man do I love to say that without joking around.
Thread-killer as well; whole heap of threads in here with my name as last poster.

So I guess I don’t qualify as a true lurker, but the post count doesn’t show when just an average… I go through spurts (like today) when work is slow or I’m traveling for work with my laptop but don’t have anything to do) where I’ll post lots, but not all that often.
And usually by the time I see them at home, with the time zones and all, it’s gone round the houses once or twice and someone’s already said what I want to.
I may win the prize for being a member for the longest time without posting*. I’ve almost posted a few times over the years but, well, didn’t.
One of my reasons (Oh, don’t sigh and whine–I’m not going to list all of them) is that once I registered, I discovered my chosen user name is very similar to an already established member. I keep thinking I’ll change it but this is the one I’ve used since I’ve been online and I haven’t thought of one I like as well. So there.
Did I win? What’s the prize? A car would be good since mine’s in the shop with weird ailments but I’d settle for pie.
Though my start date may be misleading, I’ve actually been lurking for a good many years (just got my subscription recently). I’ve actually been here since about 7th grade. Keep up the good work Dopers you guys are enlightening to say the least.
I’m more of a lurker as well. Short, sweet, and to the point, no? SpinyNorma I feel like I should bake you a cake, or something. That’s quality lurkage there. Plus you and my step-mother share the same first name (minus the spiny, of course).
Well, everyone’s good at something and, sadly, lurkage is what I’ve chosen. Hmm…this might explain a lot. Sad really. :smack: I’m looking forward to the cake though! Can I request white cake with chocolate frosting?
I’ve almost de-lurked a couple of times before in the cat threads. My boy Bubba is very…special. Maybe next time. After all, in less than a week, I’ve doubled my post count!
Edited because I can too spell. Really.
