Machete

MACHETE, one of the fake trailers in the movie Grindhouse, is going to be made into a full length feature. Written and co-directed by Robert Rodriguez and starring Danny Trejo. Should be pretty phenomenal.

Story here.

That was quite honestly the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever seen. I’ll be there on opening night… if, in fact, the movie is made.

I saw the trailer and remembered that Trejo played a character named Machete in Spy Kids.

This looks bad ass!

Are they ever going to rrelease the full grindhouse on DVD, with all the fake trailers?

When Robert Rodriguez was speaking at Comiccon, he did a great bit where he imitated the “weekly phone calls” he gets from Danny Trejo. “When are you going to do Machete, Bob? Machete, Machete, MACHETE!” Hilarious, and spot on.

Can someone explain about these mock trailers? Why would a movie have mock trailers?

If I were RR, I’d be very leery of saying “no” to Mr. Trejo. As it says in the trailer, “they just fucked with the wrong Mexican!”

Rodrigez and Tarantino made 2 movies released as a single ticket named “Grindhouse”. It was an attempt at recreating an exploitation movie “experience”, which obviously needed trailers for more bizarre movies.

edit: not everything in that link is safe for work.

I’m not holding my breath for Machete. The original plan was to shoot it really quick and dirty and release it at the same time Death Proof and Planet Terror came out on DVD. That didn’t happen. Then it was going to come out last year. That didn’t happen. Now, RR treats it as a funny story, but doesn’t actually want to discuss when it will actually come out.

Which is a shame, because it looked hilarious and badass.

Did you read the story linked in the OP? They signed a deal to make the film in the last couple days. You won’t have to hold your breath too long.

It says no such thing (or if it does, I’m blind).

To me, it sounds like a lot of the “We’d love to do this and we will. We just don’t know when for sure yet.”

The article says that they start shooting in June.

The article says he’d like to start shooting in June…

Nothing is definite yet. And really, that sounds no different than when he was saying “We’re eyeing to start filming in June” when people asked him about it in 2007.

Well, they have financing lined up, a script already written, and a star and director ready and willing to start shooting. Sounds pretty solid to me.

I agree with J_B. I’ve been so-so following this from the start, and at this point I’ll believe it when I see it.

They still need Jeff fahey, and they need to make it look like the trailer.

Who’s the bald guy in the machete trailer, anyway?
