Madison Dopers... a little Madfest?

I’ve spotted half a dozen or so of us, perhaps there a few more lurking. We must ALL live within an hour’s drive. And I haven’t met a one of you in RL.

What say we just get together for some beer/munchies some Saturday in… June? July? August? I dunno, how long does it take to organize these things?

The Terrace? The beer garden in Middleton?

Well, considering Madison is the most “wired” community in the US, I wouldn’t be surprised at the quantity of dopers.
currently exiled in the Gopher state

An hour of each other??? Yea, probably, probably 20 minutes. I live on the far east side, but the beer garden sounds good, never been there, that’ll be a hell of a drive home-not to mention I’ll be “wired” ;).

July is more open for me, than Aug. June, not sure about.

Madison? Heck, that’s closer than Chicago, and I apparently am enough of a sucker to drive there at the drop of a hat.

I’d even be fool enough to offer rides to other Mpls folk…

If you end up holding it after August, you all can meet ME!

Hey, wait! Come back here!

Dude, as soon as they open the pool, I am sure I will see you there.

I might could be talked into it…unless of course I’m at scott evil’s Canadian Orgy Extravaganza.

What about a meeting sometime down on State street?

Terrace would be cool. Basement of the Great Dane is good for get-togethers (even if it is a little “dungeony”).

Actually, just about anywhere would be okee-dokee by me.

Looks like Amtrak will get me there in a reasonable amount of time…it’s possible for me.

Yeah, if there are Chi Dopers who want to road trip, we could organized a car pool. Right now July works better than June or August. But that’s just me.

The first week of July is no good, but the rest of the month is good for me.

Oh hey - the State Fair there is usually in August, right? How 'bout then? Mmm, cream puffs!

The state fair is outside of Milwaukee, about 2 hour from Madtown.

Gundy, how the hell ya doin?

Well, if people are actually willing to come from out of state, I suppose overnight accommodations, and a Sunday morning brunch will need to be looked at.

I will be in my cool new apt, and can povide one couch and floor crash space.

This Madison events calendar has way too much stuff on it, but andybody want to nominate an event to schedule around?

You Fibbies might enjoy the Farmer’s Market on the Square, if you’re here early enough to adventure out on Saturday morning. Thounsands of interesting people to watch, good food, and at the other end of State Street is the Memorial Union Terrace.

I will throw out the first suggestion, as I was dumb enough to propose the idea… Maxwell Street Days, July 19, all the State Street shopkeepers go out onto the streets. Hit the Farmer’s Market in the morning, stroll among the masses of Maxwell Streeet Days on the way to a cool one at the Terrace. An afternoon picnic maybe later?

Evening, there’s a new blues club, Luther’s, that I haven’t been to yet. Anybody have an opinion on it?

Problem – out of towners will need to be in Friday night.

Oh yeah, there’d have to be some indoor crappy-weather alternative.

A gazillion campus bars to choose from, for day or eveing. Anybody want to make suggestions on this? I’m not a bar afficionado. My personal preference would be something a little quieter than Timmy O’Tooles for ChiDope. But in exchange for the presence of plenty of coed eye-candy, I’m willing to knock another percentage off my hearing capacity.

I have a definitely non-vegetarian dinner idea, hope I’m not excluding or offending any folks by suggesting it: the Prime Quarter steakhouse. Everybody pick their own steaks (REALLY GOOD meat), and grill their own over huge common flame grills. Very social and chatty – not terribly pricey, about $30 bucks for a great meal and a couple of drinks. Not a place to hang out and drink the night away, however.

Man, I have become SO Wisconsin!

Jane D’oh! Sorry I missed a howdy earlier!

Jane and Gundy have first dibs on my crash space if they need it, or would merely prefer it! I owe them kindnesses for their earlier graciousness to newbie DopeFest(er?!) me.

Besides, I want to lock up their company before anybody else gets the idea.

Umm…no. Unless they have salad, save for the occasional brat at Miller Park I’m a veg, or as my cousin from Chicago calls us, ‘granola-crunchers’. (Hey, this is Madison!)

Tons of bars if that’s your thing, but the Union and a band would be cool on a saturday or friday if all else fails, before they get rid of the 46 oz cup o’ beer. I don’t know if they schedule is out yet. Luthers is excelent, but depends on the music-I’m gonna try to check out the Supersuckers there tomorrow, not sure we all would want to hang out there though.

Angelic is bigger than the Dane I think, and not as smokey or loud, though parking is trickier, and not as many arrogant yuppies.

I have a couch and a real old double bed also, If I’m around. If not, there’s a key…Would give me a reason to put away that xmas stuff in the spare bedroom (I’m not kidding).

I may take you up on that. It depends on which side of the city the party will be on. The family summer place is in Watertown and if we are Dopefesting within 40 mins of there, I may try staying there. I too would have floor space if we went that route. If we’ll be on the other side of the city, then, well, we’d have to work out some sleeping arrangments.

Thanks!

I’m pretty sure whatever we do, it will be in or around the Isthmus. With the possible exception of a picnic. My place is on the far southwest side, right near Verona.

BTW, I can’t make biking this weekend. I went nuts, and bought scads of new furniture for the new place, and a good chunk of it is being delivered Saturday, so I have to hang around. You did say Saturday, right? Sunday’s a possibility for me.

Yep Saturday. Oh well, maybe next time. We’ll be heading back Sunday right after breakfast so that won’t work. It’s only gonna be a short ride anyways. (You’d probably spend more time getting to the trail than actually biking.)

There’ll be other weekends.
