Mafia: Baker Street [Game in progress]

Yeah, I have this really weird quirk where I don’t vote for people I don’t think are scum. It’s a crazy strategy, but I thought I’d try it out and see where it leads.

Sounds understandable to me.

But then don’t give me that “yeah, he’s really been skating by” line…when you’re one of them helping him do it.

It is what it is. I would seriously prefer a single unequivocal town choice, not a seven-way tie where scum can pretty invisibly alter the lynch.

I wasn’t aware that it didn’t count as an intense investigation unless I was involved. I think you’ve probably hurt some other players’ feelings. They’ve worked hard on cases against Astral and here you are completely discounting all that effort. For shame, sir.

You’re just playing a semantics game now. You’re the one that just used the “Yeah, he’s really been skating by” line, so…yes, that would apply to just you in that case.

I’m not sure that one locus of votes is necessarily more pro-town than a more spread out arrangement.

Whatever you say, chief.

If there are 13 tied players with two votes each, and player #14 (who happens to be scum) casts the deciding third vote for a town player, how can we reasonably detect that? I wouldn’t necessarily give that player additional scrutiny over anyone else, because I can see town rationale for the vote as well. It’s not really that player’s fault that the tie-breaker came down to one single vote… And yet, scum got to choose our lynch.

That’s what I mean when I say it’s invisible… I can’t really use that as evidence against the player. It was town’s failure that it got to that point, and literally anybody in the game, town or scum, could have resolved it.

And if the votes are spead across a 6 or 7 player tie and a town player starts a bandwagon, do we necessarily have any more information to go on? We assume that once votes start rolling in a scum must be involved but it could easily be town on town violence.

So what exactly is suspicious about wevets, other than the fact that she’s been gone for a few weeks?

I don’t know what the rule is here for Mod-killing inactive players but

(1) Some scum deliberately lay low. I remember a game where Mahaloth as Scum posted zero, or almost zero, in the public thread to avoid attention.

(2) If we’re not sure who’s Scum (and I’m not) it is much MUCH better to misLynch an inactive Player than an active one. I’ve played in other games (though with different rules) where Town’s only chance was to Lynch inactive players specifically.

I hope storyteller will clarify rule about inactive players. If Town cannot agree on a Lynchee, it may be best to Lynch one of the inactives.

Yeah, that was a few months ago(at least) on Idlemafia. I wasn’t too proud of the strategy, but I had always been curious if it would work. I believe we(scum) won that game. I don’t think I would do it again as it no longer seems fun and my curiosity has been satisfied. It is actually hard to resist posting.

**To all who have asked about the inactive players:

I don’t know what I’m going to do yet. I have heard from one inactive player that (s)he will not be able to return and requesting a sub; the rest have vanished entirely. I very frankly was not prepared to deal with such a large number of nonparticipants; to modkill them all would dramatically alter the shape of the game regardless of their alignments.

I’ll have to come up with a solution, but I don’t what it is yet.**

Astral, what happened with your one-shot power last night?

It was either used or not used, if it’s a power that’s actionable and not passive.

If I’m close to lynch on a Wednesday, I’ll happily reveal my power, whether it was used, and how it works. Until then, I’d still prefer to leave it as a game for the scum. I could potentially disrupt their plans with what I’ve learned already or could do in the future. The longer this goes on, the more they have to seriously consider killing me, which (for me) is infinitely preferable than a mislynch for town.

I hosted Harry Potter mafia here and it had a huge amount of non-particpants as well. In the end, I allowed it to play out. It was extremely boring and certainly my least popular game. I ended up using the exact same setup later under a different color(Hotel of Heroes, I thin) and it was, to me, a huge hit.

Story, you could retroactively put a “penalty” system in like we’ve used in other games. You get a penalty for not voting at all and 3 strikes means dead. We could also forgive strikes if we choose too at Daybreak.

It will only be effective if you go back and figure out who has how many penalties, though. Starting it now would take 3 more Days to get anyone killed.

By the way, I believe I also mod-killed two players in Harry Potter for rules violations. It was a total waste of a game.

Darth Sensitive almost died yesterDay. Septimus & gnarlycharlie are currently voting for him, so I can assume their motives are relatively pure. They really want him dead. gnarlycharlie in particular has been hounding Darth all game. Of interest to me is Idle Thoughts. Idle, why are you not voting for Darth Sensitive today? You haven’t even bothered to mention him once all day. When it comes down to a tie-breaker, I’d have expected you to try to push his lynch again. This leads me to lean town on Darth, and even scummier on you.

Dude, we could also sped up the game some if folks are this dead quiet and nonparticipating. Even with no nights, it is taking forever.
