Mafia: Conspiracy 2: The Cabal Strikes Back! [Game Over]

Well there have been another three votes against a Day 1 role reveal, so this means that I shall put the idea away for another time. However, it has provided some interesting things to pick over, so I will have a look at them in due course.

Oh well, back to hunting scum the old fashioned way then.

So Nanook, given that you have a lot of votes against you, anything to say? :dubious:

What can I say? I’ve explained what happened mulitple times. No one seems to care. It seems my only other option would be to claim, but I would like to wait at least a little bit longer before I do that. Don’t take that to mean I’m going to wait til 10 minutes before the deadline, but since the Day doesn’t end for what, a week?, I’ll wait.

I do have a question for the people voting for me though. What exactly do you think I am? Obviously you don’t think I’m town, but what do you think I am? Undead? Wolf? Cabal?

Well, as somebody said upthread, I don’t think you’re a member of a faction that shares its secret power. You’d be somebody specifically with a secret power. In the first game, that would mean you could be Town or Cabal, but not a wolf unless you’re the Alpha Wolf or Undead. Do I have that right? I didn’t play that game, so I’m going off what I’m reading from the secret board from that game (specifically here), which might be confusing me. Of course, I don’t think I need to tell you all that that could be completely and totally different this game, just theorizing. Numerically it seems quite likely that a secret power holder, if this game is similar to the last one, would be town.

Undead, since Wolf and Cabal have already had a chance to talk and share information.

Oh, true. One assumes special powers would have been discussed at Night by groups that can talk secretly.

You and me both…I though we were in Night Zero until today. I don’t put much credence in night zeros, so I was fully planning to just skim through. So much for that idea…anyway, “things that jumped out at me while catching up” coming up shortly.

Undead or
our towns secret role or
anything and you explanation is true

Is there any reason not ignore anything nannook says for the rest of the day, have him investigated overnight (and possibly protected in case he is town, the scum with night kills will probably want him dead in case), the act on it tomorrow, thus get on with discussing other lynch candidates.

I am a little concerned this whole nanook deal is a good excuse to shut down further discussion for the day as it becomes a done deal. If we don;t keep poking around we will not get anywhere.

Other option , it is a deliberate accidental dumb post. If nannook is cabal or wolves , and they are throwing him under a bus. In which case may be not the first person to spot the slip, but those shortly after are getting in on the act and getting town kudos. As I said I am paranoid, but maybe the Nannok lynch all looks a little too neat.

Undead or,
our towns secret role or,
any team and nanooks explanation is true

Not quite sure what it is, but something about this post is rubbing me the wrong way. If I had gotten everyone’s true role, yes, that game would’ve been over. But the whole point was that scum lie. It then falls upon the rest of us to figure out who is covering their tracks.

Now that I think about it, the analogy falls apart when you consider that in Batman, the scum were handed false role claims. The scum have no such bit of convenience here.

(Bolding mine) How are the wolves supposed to know what is a false roleclaim and what isn’t? (Unless, of course, a townie roleclaims “wolf”)

Ok, that’s it for posts that jumped out at me (well, no, it isn’t…but I deleted the ones that have already been addressed). Now then, as for “to role claim or not to role claim”…I think MHaye put out a very good, reasoned pro/con breakdown of role claiming here. And if the voting were closer, I might make a harder push for a mass-claim, but I can see that it isn’t going to happen. However, there is one thing that hasn’t been put out there: Mass role-claims are fun. They turn the game into a sweaty, panicky, chaotic clusterfuck. I know that’s not everyone’s cup of tea, but I love it that way. Then again, I’m the guy who once drunkenly lit off a pack of bottle rockets in a packed-with-similarly-drunken-people hotel room. Chaos can be fun.)

Last bit for the day: I apparently hate myself, because I’m creating a voting chart for this game (as opposed to Cecilvania, which only got one day’s worth of data before a server crash made my site inaccessible for over a week). Should be set tomorrow.

I’ve got to echo this sentiment. Any time a player states that a play is optimal for Town but they choose not to do it for some amorphous reason, I get very suspicious. Be for or against the mass claim, but explain in-game reasoning, don’t just say “it’s too easy to win that way”. Not worth a vote yet but something to note and remember.

As for Nanook, I hate to jump on a pileon but to avoid risk of a modkill I’m going to go ahead and

vote Nanook of the North Shore

A slip-up and backpedalling is about the best we can hope for on Day 1 so barring more information I am comfortable with this vote. I really dislike that we haven’t had any other major candidates under consideration but after a re-read I haven’t found anything that jumps out at me, so I don’t really have a suggestion at this point.

I do agree with Santo Rugger that if Nanook is scum as suspected, he is likely Undead. That means he’s either a Vampire or the Necromancer. I’m assuming there’s probably one of each in the game. As such, I have a slight concern. If we are assuming he is a likely scum suspect that we specifically believe to be Undead – is there strategy in holding off for a day? While the Necromancer isn’t likely doing us any favors, the Vampire is a risk to the other factions just as much as to us. I didn’t live very long in the previous Conspiracy game so I’d be interested to hear other thoughts on this point.

Bah, after submitting my post I realize that a suspected or confirmed Vampire is worth nearly nothing in terms of holding back night kills, since any suspected undead is very unlikely to be targeted. I think my argument can be safely ignored.

I would guess it would be precisely the opposite - that scum would specifically avoid players who could possibly have a “backlash”.

Is there any reason to out our investigator(s), get all our investigators and protectors to focus on the same person, give scum an easy shot at claiming investigator Tomorrow, and head off in another direction? I can’t think of a single one.

As far as stifling conversation, I fail to see how other topics aren’t being concurrently discussed.

This is a known scum tactic, which no longer brings any town creed with it.

One can place a vote without joining a bandwagon. See atarus voting for his bed buddy*.

crossing my fingers I hope you two think that’s as funny as I do.

I have other suspicions, but I don’t feel justified acting on them, so I’m also going to Vote Nanook.

Can you share them with us?

This vote does not comply with voting regulations. Votes need to be blue, bold and on a separate line.
Like This!
While I’ll count non-compliant votes if I see them, if I miss it, you have no right to complain.

Who is this player, Like This! that you speak of? Have they even posted yet today?

Well, any player who hasn’t voted by the end of the Day is mod-killed, so you needn’t worry too much.

Just in case the dope goes on a week long hiatus.
