Mafia: Conspiracy 2: The Cabal Strikes Back! [Game Over]

But all we actually know is that it failed. There could be any kind of block in play. Don’t you think that could have been a slip? I mean, it’s a convenient result.

Well, we don’t know that there’s any day blocking, do we? As far as I recall, Cat’s detective work is a day action.

We know that the Cabal can’t block the exercise of the Detective’s regular power. We also know that no other role is capable of blocking a Day power. The only mechanism in the rules that would prevent a Detective from getting a result is the Detective trying to investigate a Vampire kill.

That doesn’t mean that there is no possibility of a roleblocker that can block Day actions, of course.

I may have been unclear - what I meant is, Cat didn’t say “My investigation failed, so it must have been a Vampire.” He said “brewha was killed by a Vampire.” If “failed” just meant “Vampire” that would be all well and good, but there’s all sorts of secret powers out there, role blocking, etc. It’s also quite a convenient result. I don’t like it.

And you know this how?

I thought that those pesky rules would merely tell you that you were blocked or give you a no read. Not the identity of what caused the block.

Sorry for being so quiet. I got caught up in school/holiday stuff.

Is the paranoia over CatInASuit’s investigation result more that he came back with a null result, or his choice of words? If the former, that’s somewhat understandable; if the latter, that’s just silly. (I’m assuming that the Detective is the only one with a Day action until we find out otherwise.)

Ok, I’ll tell you where my paranoia comes from. Three potential investigees. Oxygen Network is pretty well a silly investigation. Brewha shold have been protected by the withchdoctor basoed on his claim and will come back knowing his killer - and may still. santo would have been my personal choice. But it still is CIAS’s choice so we have to live with his result or not believe him. Either or …

Huzzah for Darth! Boo for CoG! …unless, of course, he turns up as scum.

I’m starting to wonder if it is possible for anything to not be seen as frustratingly convenient yet at least remotely plausible.

Is anyone else besides me already losing track of which stiff is in which stage of decay?

Not defending CIAS here, but that is exactly how I reported my result in the first game and got called out the same way. If he doesn’t get a name, the kill was made by a Vampire.

Well, I wouldn’t say that I am “paranoid” about his result, but I am dubious. Imagine for a moment that you are scum forced to claim on Day One to avoid the noose. What would you do? Well, a Detective claim is pretty good, since you won’t have a chance to use your power until the following Day. Town unvotes because we don’t want to lose a valuable role, and since there are investigation results forthcoming, the role is eventually confirmable. Then, when the time finally comes for you to reveal an investigation, help find a killer and prove yourself, you say you didn’t get a result back, so your investigatee must have been offed by the vampire. Pretty sweet. The more I think about it, the sweeter I think it is.

Of course this result doesn’t mean CatInASuit is definitely scum, far from it, but for me it makes it more likely. I’m flashing back to Simpletown where storyteller was forced to claim on Day One and strung us along for 3 Days, using Town “readings” to stay alive and lead Town down all the wrong paths.

What exactly do you mean by your first sentence? We only know that Darth was a Cabalist. Who’s the other one we got? And how do you know? :dubious:

I don’t know about the cabalists but personally, I like Santo Rugger for some kind of undead: it seemed a little too paranoid when I first proposed it, but I like the theory that some of his early posts came off as overly defensive in part because he was trying very hard not to draw sustained attention to himself. If he were a wolf or part of the cabal he would’ve been in contact with his teammates, who could’ve probably coordinated a much better de-scrutinifying campaign. The fact that he seemed to go it alone tells me that he was either out of contact with his team, a townie playing very badly, or sufficiently convinced of his vulnerability to feel that getting help from his teammates would put them in too much jeopardy.

It could be the case that Santo was a willing sacrifice in order to pull scrutiny from someone else, but I just don’t see it.

Glad I’m not the only one who found that to be a very bizarre thing to say. I’m flashing back to Darth’s “bad day” slip in the Recruiting game.

Yikes.

Somone who has their foot deeper in than I, cripes.

Go ahead an lead whatever banner you want. I’ll stand over here in the corner, if you don"t mind.

So, is everyone else right? You didn’t get confirmation on who killed brewha?

With any luck, he’ll be resurrected anyhow (I hope, at least. However, the Witchdoctor might have protected you).

ShadowFacts: it is not a convenient answer. it is very inconvenient. I feel like I have been out WIFOM’d by Diggit

peekercpa: Why would you have chosen Santo Rugger to investigate?

You know, it’s amazing that everyone, apart from Oredigger77, appears to have forgotten that **pedescribe ** claimed Cabal before he died. In theory, we have taken out two Cabal members. Accurate, who knows.

As for my investigation. :dubious: => Zsofia

I don’t know maybe its just me but that seems to be enough to base a theory on.

Thanks at least I wasn’t the only one paying attention.

Come one - don’t play dumb. It doesn’t suit you (ha, get it!?). Of course it’s inconvenient if you’re really the Detective, but you know what I was talking about.

I, for one, have not forgotten what pedescribe claimed. What’s actually amazing is that you would give that claim any credence whatsoever. I am assuming that everything that came out of his mouth was total garbage and I am treating it that way until we hear the truth from Pleonast.

I know exactly what you are talking about. However, as the Detective, it’s inconvenient both to me and the Town. On this point, I’m not playing dumb, stupid is closer to the mark

Where have I given it creedence?

Feel free to assume its all garbage, I’ll take on it WIFOM merits instead. We have no way to seperate any truth from lies in his statements, although strangely enough, a chunk of what he was saying fits my ideas about the game nicely.

Maybe I am just self-confirming my own ideas.
