Mafia: Evil Dead III Commentary. Dead people only! NO SPOILERS

For most of town, there’s really no pro-town reason to leave a message, sadly. I wouldn’t ever leave a message, because I have nothing secret to say, and I’d just be adding to the noise and confusion as people picked it apart instead of hunting scum.

I like the mechanic, but there needs to be a reason for the X number of vanillas to use it, too.

That is a good point, and I agree completely. If I were vanilla town there would be nothing worth putting on the barn. Anything put there would be pure noise.

I think the main purpose of the Barn is as a conversation-starter, to get things rolling on Day 1: Even a vanilla can take part in the discussion of how the barn can be used by various roles.

Yeah, I agree with Astral that there was no reason for vanillas to post on the Barn. But there could’ve been some discussion about how it could be used, as Chronos says. On the other hand… I don’t know, seems that Scum and 3rd Party folks could so easily manipulate discussion and post whatever they pleased depending on what Town was deciding… Ugh, my mind’s a muddle.

On the other other hand, judging from the dog’s breakfast that is the game thread right now, looks like I’m not the only muddled one. Good lord. I don’t understand half of what these people are trying to say to each other.

If Town pulls this off it will be an absolutely bloody miracle.

In other news there’s nothing I want quite so much as to somehow figure out how to run my own game, where EVERYTHING in the color might matter, and the way people play the game has very little to do with WIFOM silliness and everything to do with using your brain to assess real clues. I guess it’d be more of a murder mystery game than a mafia game. Have we ever played a Murder Mystery game here? It would be part RPG, part Mafia, and part Clue/Cluedo.

At least that is my dream. Just to show how I, the worst-suited person ever to play a Mafia game, would actually run a game that matched my ridiculously ignorant expectations on how a Mafia game that I’d enjoy should be played.

But I’d never be able to do it, so it remains a pipe dream.

Aw, you should at least consider it. I’d play a murder mystery for sure!

The problem with doing that in mafia is that it’s supposed to be player vs. player, with as little moderator intervention as necessary (ideally, none!). It’s not fair to the scum if you provide town clues that help suss them out, and vice-versa. And, there’s always the chance that something you thought was oblique is actually an obvious spoiler because you’re posting from a position of perfect information. It would be very easy to accidentally confirm something with an off-hand comment you make, because you forget something isn’t common knowledge.

To give you a concrete example of how something innocent became a spoiler: in De’endee, I was trying to explain how the godfather role worked in relation to other scum powers, and the scum team parsed my words and guessed (correctly) the LACK of certain other types of roles. The scum godfather’s power made him immune to tracking, investigation, and nightkill, and somehow in explaining that I let slip there wasn’t a watcher. Go me.

The same objections work for town. Scum generally have an uphill battle - I’d guess they win less than 50% of the time, because no game is “perfectly” balanced, if such a thing could ever exist, and disparities in my opinion tend to help town because they simply have more bodies to throw at the game.

But if it’s not mafia and works in its own peculiar way, I have no doubt that a game like what you’re proposing would be crazy fun to play.

All gone very quiet, prehaps the wolves are happy with the lynch. Then agian dizzylizzy calim of back up/slightly different investigator is a bit suspicious. Still no one pushing lightfoot on her (or is it his?) slip on the role

I think anytime it’s dead like this, scum are happy with the lynch.

More discussion in this thread

What I was trying to say was that there is more discussion in this thread than that thread, not that we need more discussion here . This is why I rarely get past day one.

Anyway we may have shamed someone in the game into playing;)

So I have to spend every other week in Calgary . Can anyone explain ice hockey and why does the local teams name sound like a Canadian remake of Priscilla queen of the desert?

My working theory is vast quantities of Canadian beer.

Not been too impressed with the Canadian beer so far ( and I live the other part of my life in Utah, so I have very low expectations of tap beer. Now if you can get hold of some wasatch breweries or Epic breweries proper beer in a bottle then I can recommend that highly)high west distillery for some great rye whiskey.
Anyway mostly hitting the wine , wise men of Gotham Shiraz is quite serviceable.
As far as I can tell the action on the ice is pretty random, as someone wrote in another thread on how often should a good player win, it would appear ice hockey is a perfect information highly random game. I guess all the back story behind the games is what keeps the viewing numbers up.

I’m not the biggest hockey fan, but I went to a Blues game a few weeks back and had a legit blast. The sweet thing about Saint Louis is that while we’re the home of Anheiser, you can also get a ton of great local microbreweries at venues, too. Schlafly is delicious, and Goose Island in Illinois is pretty tasty too. I don’t think we have any Canadian beer, so I guess I’m missing out on the full experience!

I’m totally skimming but I’m getting a frustrated townie read off dizzy.

well that I did not expect

Me neither.
I was banking on wombat being the SK. I’m quite curious about what the wolves are up to.

I had to do something…My fake cop claim just didn’t do it. Playing two games at the same time sucks, because I forgot completely about RS’s claim…Blech.

yeah that ws a bit suspicious - I am not sure what the case was on you anyway though. Either way it seams scum were indeed happy with the lynch.

Dizzymrslizzy, you posted a “very frustrated” comment (about this being the most frustrating game you’ve every played, why bother… or something to that effect). Was that real or were you acting the part of frustrated Townie?

In other news, I have only been skimming this game (seriously barely reading, just following the plot points mostly), but if Meeko is not scum I will eat my hat.

Skimming is a scum tell.
