Bob, I believe it’s possible to change your elemental alignment. Please look into the details – assuming you can do it today with no negative side-effects it should protect you from a targeted attack on that basis.
Even though I think every one of your assumptions is likely to be incorrect, your explanation does ring true to me.
Gad, if it makes you feel better, I think you’re playing quite well. But I was told that if I was town, I was doing the scum’s job for them, so take my compliments with a grain of salt.
(Choie, I kid!)
((snuggling is a scum tell))
(((actual case making comes when I get home from work. I’ve got some thoughts, and I’ll try to keep it as free from my usual baseless assumptions as possible!)))
Yes, I agree with this. I think the only elemental issue with the items would be that if an item were associated with an element (e.g. blue item=water) that its effects would be modified by the person who was receiving them. That is, if a blue item was water it would be more effective at damaging a fire aligned person and less effective at healing a fire aligned person depending on what the item did, if it did anything at all. But I don’t think you have to worry about an item in your possession harming you.
I’m assuming they were scum because 1. Only Town were killed and 2. A townie was killed in a fashion that still keeps the top 2 lynch candidates under suspicion.
If the top 2 lynch candidates are spared and a relatively innocuous townie is killed, that seems pretty indicative of scum. It is possible, of course, that the extra votes were townie, but I doubt it.
that belief cycles. first those with what seemed to be PIS were scum. then those who point it out were scum. then it’s the one who fingers the one who points out the slips. it’s really not reliable just like the 3rd vote is scum. you know, i can point you to a certain game where i made similar accusations and was town.
gotta to see the reaction. i’ll see if i move my vote or not. pressure is good, unless it’s on you.
Yes. It shows participation and an interest in the outcome of the game, and prevents the lurk through the entire game strategy which I so despise since it kills discussion.
That tell was remarkably accurate during Mystery Mafia, if I recall correctly. Obviously confirmation bias, so we don’t remember when it’s not the case, but still.
Actually, my thoughts on the elementals- This is very similar to D&D so far.
Good/Neutral/Chaotic are 3 aspects in the D&D world. I believe these roles are separate from our Mafia world of Town/Scum/PFK and 3rd party.
I think half the confusion is people are trying to mix their D&D and their Mafia speak.
Basically we’re all given Elemental aspects, and alignments as well.
I don’t think Moral/Law Alignments=Elementals=Classes=Game alignments.
The whole point of D&D is multiple types of beings can exist. There are lawful good creatures and lawful evil creatures. There are chaotic good creatures, and chaotic evil creatures.
Some Jobs may be restricted to certain alignments that’s for sure, but still, again- to make the assumption “Water= Townie” because YOU may be town, is not a wise one.
All LAWFUL things are not good, nor All Chaotic things bad, and only Sith deal in such absolutes.
Elementals more likely work in regards to powers- the double damage/half damage system that AskthePizzaGuy noted. And may play a role in certain powers being boosted or decreased (that’s my guess on where items fall into this role).
Also as someone has asked Visor about alignments and all:
Remember: AskthePizzaGuy said it’ll take TWO actions to change alignments.
It’s highly unlikely people have begun changing alignments just yet- it’d take most likely 2 days of a certain action or behavior to even try to guess if alignment shifts are noted. Unless someone had a Day and night attack power or a day and night guard power. but I doubt that’s the case, as that seems highly unusual.
Just my two cents.
And Vote Septimust for his Townie list.
I dislike lists. Lists are manipulative by their very nature. Sure it may be easier to ID townies, but it’s even easier to do so if you’re scum. Then it’s an easy way to snuggle up with some people by saying “Hey, I think you’re Town too!”, the first thing I do when I hear someone things I’m town- is suspect WHY do they think that? What makes them so sure that I’m town even if I AM town?
So at the worst- you’re scum trying to buy up some safety by smudging people you know may be town, and throwing in a scumbuddy or two into that list to also help you out.
At best- you’re a clueless townie who’s helping scum to manipulate you better by seeing who needs to act more townie towards you and who you find less suspicious. You’re just opening yourself up to given them an easier time to use you.
I don’t think you’re that much of a newbie player, though I admit I’ve not played with you before, but I AM paranoid enough to vote ya for it early on in the Day.
I didn’t think of that, I just assumed it was scum because during the night 2 townies were killed. I did think it was odd that one was by a “frenzied attacker”, maybe that is a vig.
This is my second game of mafia by the way, so I’m not well versed in the different standard roles, although I did read about vigilantes when I was preparing for my first game.
