Afternoon all.

What I Learned Yesterday.

First, I have to confess to a major brain fade. My decision on who to Watch evolved a bit over the last 12 hours or so of the Day. I changed form my original selection to double back and Watch a previous Day’s subject, and then again to a Mason.

The trouble is that the second change PM didn’t go to all three Mods (as we were asked to do, to ensure it was processed). The one I sent it to wasn’t on PM processing duty, so I wound up watching the second person I sent, which was guiri, instead of Khameleon.

After the end of Day, I got a surprising PM, which I will quote in full.

My interpretation of this PM is that I was roleblocked. I suppose I could have been switched off, but it doesn’t feel like that. This raises two questions; first, who could roleblock me? And second, why would they?

Exploration of the roles document yielded three rolenames still among the living: -[ul][li]The Zoning Inspector[/li][li]The Enforcer[/li][li]The Trickster[/ul]The powers of each of these work in subtly different ways. The ZI only roleblocks one period; the two Scum blockers each block two periods, the Enforcer a Night and the following Day, the Trickster a Day and the following Night.[/li]
I reported Yesterday that I got a result from N7. so I cannot have been roleblocked by the Enforcer. I also got a result from N8 - that guiri was killed by wolves (now there’s a surprise eh?) - so the Trickster didn’t block me.

Now, Sherlock Holmes’s famous dictum on eliminating impossibles to find the truth may not always apply, but it does here (or so it seems to me). So I wanted, and still want, to know why the Zoning Inspector blocked me Yesterday.

But wait, there’s more!

It occurred to me that the Zoning Inspector might have been redirected. We do, after all, have a claimed redirector in the mix, and he could have acted as early as Day 8, so that is plausible. In which case it is Koldanar that must answer the question “why?”

The last point that follows is that, if that is correct, Koldanar now knows who the Zoning Inspector is. The secret’s out, and I don’t see how you can avoid being outed. So might as well claim now.

I am concerned about this Bufftabby bandwagon. The case feels mostly based lack of follow-through, which doesn’t make her unique here. There are masons on board, but given the ratio of scum to not scum left, I’m dubious of any lynch that gets such quick consensus.

I’m going to vote for **Johnny Bravo ** As I said, I was concerned with ferocity of which we wanted a mass claim. I think he has been attacking voters methods and effort as much as defending actual points against him. I think his focus on whether people are wolf or mafia might indicate he cares about the distinction. I would like to analyze all of his posts, but that isn’t going to happen until at least tomorrow, and want to get a vote on the board.

I agree on the claiming, though. I also think as someone up there (nesta?) pointed out, that nilla’s should claim too, so here goes: suprise, surprise, I’m vanilla.

Let’s address this first.

What is the best-case scenario for the patsy? The best case scenario is that the patsy gets lynched and then explodes a scum. That’s a 1:1 trade, and scum still get two night kills. In the worst case scenario, we lose the patsy, another townie, and scum still get two night kills.

The patsy’s bomb only goes off in the event of a mislynch, which is a bad outcome for town. The best case scenario is that the mistake is sort of mitigated.

If the patsy claims now, the patsy will not be lynched. The bomb becomes irrelevant, and we gain the value of a further reduced scum pool. The bomb doesn’t need to be diffused - the bomb is no longer a factor.

The patsy should claim now. So should the zoning inspector. Jesus Christ, that’s six scum in a pool of nine people! How are you still not seeing the value in that?

If you’re town, just claim and help us. Please. The remaining power roles are so much more valuable right now if they claim. That goes out to both of the remaining power roles.

If and until you do, you’re still scum in my book. Claiming that you’re one of two things and pawning off the responsibility/decision on the “other” power role is not helpful.

I said somewhere in the first few threads that I didn’t think the distinction was worth worrying over in the early game, but that it would become much more relevant later on. We’re well into that point. It’s relevant now.

Failure to follow through is a scum tell. It’s different than lurking.

I did think, for a time, that Koldanar was a false-claiming third party with an exclusive wincon. That time was roughly bracketed between the time I read sinjin’s claim and the time I read nesta’s. Prior to thqt I had publically speculated on whether koldanar had a different wincon to the rest of LUTHA.

I did not think koldanar was either variant of scum.

MHaye was blocked D8, but not N7 or N8.

ZI can block only for the Day of a cycle, but it makes no sense for a Town player to roleblock MHaye. In the absence of redirection, as Koldenar says he did not use his power, the only other way I can see this remotely working is something like:

Enforcer targets Mhaye for N7/D8. But Enforcer was targeted by Trickster for D7/N7. So the roleblock against Mhaye fails for N7, but in place for D8. If it was the Trickster that targeted MHaye,it would have been D8/N8, but if the Enforcer targeted the Trickster, to block N8/D9, then the same result.

I think.

I think I have confused myself. If either of those happened, one flavor of scum should now have verification that the target is opposing scum.

Let’s look at the two extant cases.

What do we know from these numbers?

There are five members of the scum pool voting for bufftabby. There are currently five unconfirmed townies. So the votes on bufftabby are either:

a) All townies (unlikely).
b) Townies+wolves
c) Townies+mafia
d) All three factions

Well, duh. That’s literally all the possibilities. But. Let’s say the case on Johnny is the good one, and that all three votes on me are town. That means there are only two unconfirmed town left. Now the votes on bufftabby are either:

a) 2 Townies + all three wolves (highly unlikely or at least pretty stupid)
b) 2 Townies + all three mafia (highly unlikely or at least pretty stupid)
c) All three factions

If the case on me is made up of townies, the only reasonable makeup of the bufftabby vote is a mix of all three factions. If it’s a mix of all three factions, it means that the dominant faction in her vote train is town (2 confirmed town, 1 unconfirmed town, 2 wolves, 2 scum).

So now you have to ask whether you think BOTH scum teams have 2/3rds of their remaining players on bufftabby. I think it’s unlikely. So probably there are less than four scum there.

So what am I driving at? The reasonable conclusion here are that even if bufftabby is town, the majority of the votes are almost certainly town. Which means that being wary of the votes on bufftabby as some sort of runaway scum train is a bad conclusion.

Now, hawkeye, this falls apart a little if at least one of the votes on me is scum. But who would it be? Is it bufftabby or Lightfoot? Well, that’s what I’ve been saying all along. And if it’s not them, well, it’s you.

I am giving them a way to claim without claiming which is which. Town gets 2 roles that could be counter claimed if false, and Scum get a bit of confusion as to who is who.
