Mafia Reunion - Day Three

I don’t see anywhere where I’ve been threadshitting. As soon as you all stop talking about it and accusing me of it, I can finally stop talking about it and defending myself from it. It’s a vicious cycle that did NOT start with me.

NB: the mods have said that a) subs have been hard to find and b) they want to modkill at Dawn. Which would be Day 4.

That was not before I posted. I thought you meant it was discussed before I made a post in this thread, which is not the case.

My bold. As I said earlier, there’s a difference between playing and posting.

I’ve been trying to play, but the longer people go on about this Idle Thoughts kerwuffle, the longer it becomes.

I meant Kerfuffle

I actually think the scum are in the mid-range of posters. Both scum teams have been killing our loudest posters. (Who, contrary to conventional wisdom, seem to have a higher than random percentage of power roles. I remember back in the day when the standard operating procedure was that town power roles kept their heads down. I guess that changed when scum started shooting into the mid-range pool to find them.) Anyway, I doubt there are many scum in the very active posters since they’ve basically been targeting from only that pool, giving them more room to blend in.

I wanted to get back to you (and others) on this. I’ve read Satch’s claim. Here’s the thing. I generally believe that both Sach and Crys are being truthful in their claim of 3rd party and teammates. There are only two other alternatives: 1) They’re both the same scum team and playing a really weird gambit on Day 2. 2) They’re on opposite scum teams and one is trying to trap the other.
Neither of those seem likely.

So, yeah, generally, I believe both Crys and Sach to be truthful in their claims of 3rd party. I just don’t trust the rest of it.

But since I have no way of determining what part of their claim is a lie and I know that Town’s win condition does not involve killing 3rd party, I’m willing to just let the lie, well, lie.
Onto other topics:

I don’t like Professor P’s vote on Sach. He’s starts off Post #339 saying that Town is down like a bajillion guys, and here’s a list of people he thinks are scum and his vote is therefore going to…3rd party? That accomplishes nothing pro-Town.

Inner Stickler I disagree with your belief that lists of leans are not helpful to Town. Of course there’s a scum counter strategy. There’s ALWAYS a scum counter strategy when Town starts talking. That doesn’t mean Town shouldn’t talk in order to combat the counterplay. That’s not effective.
The game has 55 people in it with various levels of participation, various levels of experience in playing Mafia, and various levels of experience in playing with each other. Sharing information like this has to be beneficial in a game as massive as this one.
At the same time, I can also see that many of the lists put me as a “slight scum lean.” So I can easily take those lists with a grain of salt knowing they’re not accurate. But they’re still helpful.

I’m on the fence regarding ToeJam’s claim. Generally I’d say the lack of counterclaim would lend credence towards his claim. But here…it may not. He was the lynch leader claiming Doctor. What does he have to lose? If he’s actually scum, he gets a free stab at trying to out the real doctor. And even if that doesn’t work, he gets to stick around a bit longer.

And yet, his claim seems pretty consistent with actions thus far in the game. I’m holding off full judgement for the moment.

So I’m putting down a vote right now. Vote Prof. Pepperwinkle For the reasons stated above. I’ll go back later toDay and see if there’s anything else from his posts that either helps or hurts this assessment.

Since many people have voted for me for “meta reasons” as they claim, here’s some meta-ing of my own:

Raise your hand if you’ve ever been in a game where people vote for Idle Thoughts just because they get angry/annoyed/irritated with him and accuse him of being/playing anti-town regardless of what side he may be on…and yet he turns out to be Town.

Yeah, that’s what I thought.
It’s happened before (many times), it’s happening now, it will no doubt happen again beyond this.

Vote Prof Pepperwinkle

You mean the one where you said you were going to keep your vote on the third party anyway because of “reasons”? Oh, and were going to vote Brewha if you didn’t vote crys, the guy with a switch that will nerf a town power role upon his death because lynch all liars. Even though both deaths would hurt town? Even though Brewha’s gambit would have been extremely risky for scum? But you totally believed “If he’s not a 3P then he’s scum.”

That post?

Gee, I wonder why I didn’t move my vote…

There is a recent Mod kill that comes to mind. Did you flip Town in that one? I forget.
** Idle ** You were pumped up about this game- you invited everyone you could think of to play in this ‘epic’ game…

You couldn’t/wouldn’t keep up . And the very first post you make on your return is **HOSTILE. **

Not explaining your absence but chastizing others for voting you . Yes, there is some meta involved in the votes. But you started that when you insisted Loudly in previous games that you “Always” do certain things. * (ie claim D1 and damn those who have a problem with it)* If we have to carry that to each game we damn sure will carry the other Meta information many of us have on you.

OUCH!

Fair enough though.

I am trying to keep up but I’m only on page 7 of 12 for toDay. Unfortunately I read fairly slowly and have a bunch of other things to read besides this. Perhaps I should have known better than to join a game that was so large, but I was excited to play again after a few years. Sorry everyone. I’m going to try to read as much as I can today, but am away after that until Sunday evening. I may be able to pop in briefly on the weekend, but I won’t be able to do much. I suspect that when the game becomes smaller I will be able to keep up more easily.

I usually don’t like meta reasons for voting but for now I do think Idle is playing like he’s Scum. I have no problem changing my vote later if something comes up.

Vote Idle Thoughts

And dammit! I scrolled down before posting just to get a handle on the latest goings-on and see that Idle has shown up and is now making an attempt to play. I appreciate that - thanks Idle! However I don’t know if I believe you’re Town so I’m leaving my vote for now. I will be back later today and re-evaluate.

Hostile? I’m not hostile and I never understand why people always think I’m always so hostile in games. This is my regular playing mood. : p It’s not hostile, at least IMO.

Have you ever tried to understand? Real talk.

I hear you, brother!

Seriously, though, this whole nonsense with you ducking in and out of the game is kinda bull. Either play or don’t, but what you’ve done today feels more than a bit like you’re taunting the rest of us who are trying to play the game. Hell, you’ve definitely brought today’s lynch down to a referendum on you so far, which if you’re Town, you don’t want to do. And if you’re scum, well, you’re dicking over your partners. Which for in-game purposes is fine, but objectively, is even worse.

Yes. And I have come to the conclusion that one man’s hostile is another man’s calm.

I like to think that scummy as they are, the scum teams have more integrity than that.

You don’t have anything to do with my lean list. You had mentioned earlier in this game and frequently over on Giraffe, that your preferred lynch targets are those who don’t post much and whose few posts contain mostly fluff. I was using you as an example, that’s all.

Being hostile is a legitimate playing style. Here are some examples of a hostile player:

“As usual, your reasoning is foolish, Paul.”

“I don’t want to be modkilled, just to piss you off.”

“Yeah, that’s the crap way. Since when do players ask for backhanded cheating ways like that?”

“Well, allow me to clue you in to how things are:”

“Extremely stupid and weak reasoning.”

“I’m invalidating that by “you deserve to be irritated due to trying to take the cheating, easy way out”.”

“…but see, the reasons being given are fairly shallow, weak, and foolish…”

If you don’t see how you’re being hostile, I don’t know how to explain it in a way you’d understand.
