MAFIA: The Road to Canterbury - Game Thread

I honestly don’t see the case on Gnarly. I don’t think he’s likely to be Scum. On the other hand, I really don’t have a strong feel on anyone at the moment. I still think Hal is the biggest threat, and will leave my vote on him as a statement, even though I understand that he’ll likely not be Lynched. I hope you all realize how dangerous this is, considering Hal’s power.

The downside of these “between 1 and 5” end-of-Days is that I sit here on my phone, refreshing every 5 minutes.

Anybody know any good jokes?

Bad gateway, you strike again. Sorry for the double post, folks.

Day Six, Dusk

*Briskly the Host rushed in from a meeting. Another would start in four minutes. Could he finish the Day in time? It was a close call, but in the end, he thought he probably could. So…

Really getting down to it now. Nine little Pilgrims, sit in a circle around a campfire, the ten miles to Canterbury seeming like a hundred… and the blameless gnarlycharly growing quietly cold a hundred paces back down the road.*

gnarlycharly, who was THE FRIAR and whose power was used, has been lynched.

Night Six starts here, and will end on Saturday. However, it will not end between 1 and 5, but much earlier - probably before noon. Please endeavor to get Night actions in tonight or on Friday if at all possible. Thanks!

How many scum does it take to change a light bulb?
Five. One to screw in the lightbulb. One to deny he had anything to do with the lighbulb being changed. One to confirm guy #2’s story. One to deny guy #2’s story. And one to pretend he’s content to be the dark.

Updated Player List w/claimed roles and actions (and I’ve simplified the layout a bit)

Alive
6. [del]Alka Seltzer[/del] RyJae - Physician - protected self & visor N1 - no kill?
11. Enderw24 - Nun’s Priest - watched Visor N2 - no activity

19. Hal Briston - Chaucer - gained Shipman power - attempted NK on SP N4 (SP lived) - killed Mahaloth N5
4. Babale - Monk - power unused
9. MentalGuy - Cook - attempted to block Snickers N2
12. [del]Tengu[/del] (now known as Kamino Neko), replaced by Astral Rejection - Merchant
3. Stanislaus - Prioress (investigated as non-scum by fubbleskag, while MHaye says the Cloak of Lies is not in play)
13. Visorslash - Pardoner -Pardoned self D1

Dead
**7. Texcat - Miller - died with power unused
10. sinjin - Canon - used potion - presumed Restorative, presumed on visor
14. fubbleskag - Man of Law - investigated Stanislaus N1 - S reported non-scum
17. Snickers - Knight - used action - presumably drew attack
16. KellyCriterion - Shipman - power unused - apparently claimed by Hal
15. Mosier - Summoner/Seraph - watched SP N1 - no activity. Watched Babale N4

  1. Mahaloth - Squire - presumably killed Inner Stickler N5 - killed by Hal N5
  2. gnarlycharly - Friar - investigated Stanislaus N1 - result: S is non-scum
  3. Suburban Plankton - Reeve (claimed Prioress) - didn’t die N4 (despite claimed but unverified attack)
  4. Inner Stickler - Parson
    **

That’s a disappointing result.

New vote chart coming later tonight.

I figured this would be a conversation for Day Seven, but since the subject came up and there’s not much conversation being generated at the moment…

Well, here’s how I look at it:

I have one kill left. I might use it on MHaye toNight (understanding that if he’s scum, it’ll be blocked, and he’ll be lynched toMorrow), or I might hang onto it until toMorrow night. But either way, that’s almost certainly going to be as far as I take it.

Why? Simple self-preservation. I’ve been up front with town that I want to win with town, and I can’t do that if I’m lynched. To me, from a town player perspective, here’s how I see myself…

Pro: Keeping an un-scum-killable player alive gives town a huge advantage toward the endgame. It only makes sense to keep me alive and counting against the scum win condition.
Con: If we came down to it, I could turn on town, give scum the win, and win along with them.

So to me it’s simple – lose the Con, and there’s no longer any reason for my lynch. If I use up all my kills, then I can’t turn against town. And yay, town and 3rd party get big happy win together.

You do actually make a good point. If you run out of night kills, assuming at this point most people have used their power, you’d be nothing except for an extra vote. You won’t count towards either side, etc. Both sides could tolerate you!

Well, yes and no. Hal will have lost is immediate kill ability, but he still had a few tricks up his sleeve.

Assuming we trust all the claims thus far, Hal can use the Miller’s power (for whatever that’s worth) and he has the potential to use the Merchant, the Monk, and the Prioress’s power.
Again it’s on the assumption that those claims were truthful AND those claims came from townies AND we end up lynching one of them. So, take that for what it’s worth but the point is Hal’s powers won’t quite be done when he says they are.

Hal, I was thinking the same thing. Killing MHaye might not be a bad thing.

How many knives have the scum used though?

I am sorry for not being around. My daughter had surgery* Friday morning and we had pretesting and all sorts of silly crap filling the time. And I didn’t want to half ass.

*oral, she is autistic so they have to put her under, this time for 3 hours for just minor work.

Glad to see you have yours straight. Hope your daughter is doing OK. Don’t sweat a few days caring for family.

I hope everything turned out okay. My son has oral/dental surgery next friday, and they’ll be putting him under too. I have a lot of irrational fear and anxiety about it. :frowning:

Why must you turn this Mafia game into a house of lies?

…so I have no excuse for missing yesterday. I just thought today was yesterday. I dunno. It’s kind of been and going to continue to be a hectic weekend. Gonna keep Dawn short and simple.

Day Seven, Dawn

Nine pilgrims fall asleep; seven pilgrims awaken. The first, dead with a sacrificial knife plunged into his back, all the forgiveness in the world no help to him.

Visorslash, who was The Pardoner and Town, has been slain.

The second is again arranged artfully, his body dangling from a branch over a picturesque waterfall, a home now for the crows.

MHaye, who was The Clerk and Town, is also dead.

Day Seven begins here, and will end on Thursday, August 9, between 1 and 5 PM EST.

Enjoy!

Tough to say. Here’s where we stand:

Dawn #1 started the game.

Dawn #2 brought no kills, and I really don’t remember why that was (so I don’t know if a knife was wasted on a blocked attack or anything).

Dawn #3 brought us the only concrete mention of a Sacrificial Knife kill:

Dawn #4 had scum killing Snickers The Knight, with a “blade”, so we can figure that was a SacKnife (“He was still standing in the morning, leaning on his blade, barely slumped forward against the blade in his back.”)

Dawn #5 brought no kills, but it stands to reason that the scum took a shot at me.

Dawn #6, Mosier with lots of color, but no weapon description.

So if we figure each scum kill was done with a SacKnife, that’d be three down. Add in the Night 4 no-kill and they’ve likely used four. Five, depending on what happened on Night 1.

Saw it coming. Good luck town.

Well damn…sorry MHaye – was really hoping my shot would’ve been ineffectual. Stanislaus, welcome to completely-confirmedhood.
