Mafia: The Thrill of the Chase [Newbie Friendly!]

Absolutely, and I’m not saying they wouldn’t – just that it was risky/bold.

Yeah, I agree. I realized that right after my second NETA and thought, oh to hell with it, I’m not gonna fake-edit again! So I guess Scathach is slightly more likely to be scum than Svejk, since out of the three scenarios that make the most sense, Scathach is scum in two of 'em, whereas Svejk is scum in only one.

Assuming my math is right, which… is not a very good assumption.

Hee! There was also a risky moment earlier when someone shortened one of our not-so-dear lurkers’ names to Precam. One misplaced vowel and that could’ve been a tad embarrassing!

Your math is right. But you’re making the assumption that all 4 scenarios are equally likely. I can’t say that they are.

As someone who’s username regularly gets shortened to “Scat”, I’ve got nothing but sympathy.

at the last vote count i read, i saw you had no votes. my vote alone would not have lynched you. since i found Special Ed the next most suspicious and he had a vote, i voted for him as well. my ‘helping’ you is not intentional. it wouldn’t be the first time scum made a one-off vote on a fellow scum.

for the record i voted. the list actually shows my vote but still lists me as having not voted.

what’s wrong with Scat? it makes me think you’re a jazz singer unless you’re referring to a more ‘gritty’ meaning.

Sorry, I’ll fix it for the next go-round.

Ooh sorry about that, gnarlycharlie–I didn’t notice that issue. Glad you weren’t among the dishonorable abstainers!

I hope we’re all here in ten hours. Gulp. That’s possible, isn’t it? If they go after septimus but he protects/fixes himself?

BTW, does the doctor protect or fix? In other words, does the killing actually take place and then the doctor resurrects the victim, or does he prevent the action in the first place? I guess it really doesn’t matter, but I’m curious to know how the order of actions works. I’ve looked in some wikis but it’s not all that clear to me.

traditionally, a doc prevents an attack. it’s actually contrary to the work of a RL doc who saves someone after an attack.

Ah, thanks. I guess it works if we think of the doc as giving flu shots or vaccines, and the scums’ night kill as some kind of infection or whatever.

Now that I think of it, though, my assumption that there wouldn’t be a kill was stupid. septimus protecting himself is already a given–that’s what he said he was gonna do–so the scum wouldn’t waste an attempt on him. (Unless he was bluffing… but the scum would assume that, right? Ugh, WIFOM WIFOM WIFOM.)

@ Scathach and Choie, about my vote on Inner… After reluctantly unvoting Septimus I looked around for a better case, I didn’t find Svejk’s case on Scathach compelling as it didn’t reflect my reasons for being suspicious of her which, admittedly, were early Day 1 pings that hadn’t merited a vote Day 1 but had not gone away. The case against Inner was a “lurking in plain sight” charge that I felt could be applied to a number of players. I slept on it and woke up to a series of votes which had piled up on Scathach with terrible or no reasoning and so it looked like a scummy attempt to save Inner.

I mentioned voting with you two because I was aware that a vote on Inner was a contrast to my previously expressed suspicions. I was so sure of Inner’s scumminess over yours that I was prepared to join you in lynching him. Hrmph.

After a bevy of strategic discussion, the townies decided to pass the night with a seance. It was the perfect atmosphere: dark lights, hand-holding, secret table. The legs started rocking and the ball started clouding, and it had begun! Astral Rejection had risen up from under the table, off to deliver information. “Tell…my wife…I love her. The money…is hidden” Astral started to rasp. “Wait,” said septimus, “aren’t you still alive?” They all looked at the body who was projecting the rejection only to find out that no, no he was not. Someone had used the cover of darkness to do nefarious deeds! Who could have guessed!

Astral Rejection (Vanilla Town), is dead.

Also orcenio died at some point somehow

Farewell Astral and Orcenio.

One death is better than two, Septimus, did you self protect?

I never… told her that… I loved her…

Herk! Blehhhhh…

um, yes, one death is better than 2, but that was two deaths.

What an odd thing to say.

Don’t worry. I’ll take care of her ;)

Was Orcino a mod kill?

I think you mean two deaths are better than three, right? Are we assuming orcenio was a mod kill or a vig kill?

Sorry, Astral Rejection. Geeze, you were another one who was starting to ping me as scum. My instincts are really off this game.

Yeah, I figured Orcenio was a mod kill and was referring to the lack of a second Night kill.

But isn’t it usual–at least from what I’ve read in other Mafia threads–for mods to announce mod kills? I’m thinking vig is more likely.

As far as your question about septimus, his announcing that he was self-protecting probably made him a useless target for scum. Why would they waste an attempt on him?

On the plus side, at least they only took out vanillas. Not that I mourn the loss of a vanilla any less keenly than a power role, but…
