Mafia V: The Cult of Sekham

:spectral form materializes into thread:

OoooOoooooOOOOoooo!

Yeah, anyway…just letting everyone know that I’ll be away for the weekend, so while I’ll have occasional web access, I won’t have access to my spreadsheet until Sunday night. That means the update I make in a few minutes will be the last one until then. Sorry if this causes any inconvenience. Unless you had a hand in my murder…then you can go piss up a rope. Thanks!

Also, after long minutes of deliberation, I’ve decided to record MHaye’s vote as “ABSTAIN” rather than leave it blank. I figure there’s a difference there, so left the record reflect it.

OoooOOOOooooooOOOOoooo!

:spectral form dematerializes from thread:

Just what kind of mushrooms were in my salad today?

The history of one HazelNutCoffee. As usual for my post analyses, I will not list pregame or Night posts, but I will note the number (for reconciliation purposes).

Hazel has made a total of 101 posts (up to 1934). This post will cover her activity in Day 1, and leave us poised to examine her contributions in Days 2 to 4 in a subsequent post (that will be made in Day 5, assuming I make it through the Night).

Hold your breath…

Pregame : 3 posts.

Day 1 : 45 posts.
[post=8718913]215[/post] : Opines non-believers should go for a shared win, at least at first.

[post=8720088]346[/post] : Suspicious of MadTheSwine because of his overreaction to Clockwork Jackal => Kyrie Eleison’s suspicion. Pursues this in [post=8720392]363[/post] by laying out a summary of the dispute (without links, unfortunately). [post=8721512]386[/post] : Waiting for MadTheSwine to respond to 363.
[post=8720290]357[/post] : In praise of fluffy posts.
[post=8720655]369[/post] : Argues lurking makes the Cult’s job easier, vote count.

[post=8723315]498[/post] : Focus on the immediate future, don’t make long-term plans.
[post=8723391]502[/post] : Random votes can’t be guaranteed random. Continued in [post=8723404]504[/post].
[post=8723475]509[/post] : Please drop the Oracle/Apprentice issue.
[post=8723691]513[/post] : Echoes NAF1138’s call for quiet people to speak up. [post=8724280]537[/post] : More on this in response to Captain Klutz.
[post=8724145]525[/post] : Analysis of the kill possibilities. More in [post=8724183]528[/post].
[post=8725634]595[/post] : Thinks NAF1138’s treatment of MadTheSwine and Malacandra are similar. Has reservations about dismissing scum tells on past experience. Follows this up in [post=8726852]641[/post] and [post=8727362]655[/post].
[post=8725791]609[/post] : Doesn’t like strategies which expose people with more info since the Town-aligned roles are the ones the Cult want to identify.
[post=8726988]647[/post] : Finds the Malacandra/Zuma exchange odd, worries about Pasta, still waiting on MadTheSwine, votes for him.
[post=8728529]698[/post] : Slightly rambling, hopes that MadTheSwine responds, thinks NAF1138’s responses to her concern about prior experience is a bit aggressive, but would scum act that way this early?
[post=8729743]742[/post] : Wants coffee.
[post=8730326]759[/post] : No good worrying about Avatar backlash unless its imminent and the Oracle or Apprentice has ID’d the Avatar.
[post=8730619]774[/post] : Recruitability of the Apprentice. [post=8730625]776[/post] : Beaten to the punch. [post=8730785]801[/post] : Recruitability of the Oracle.
[post=8730857]805[/post] : Joke post.
[post=8733748]868[/post] : Change vote to zuma.

Night 1 : Seven posts. (Technically 891 was made during Day, but all Hazel did was wander off to the bar.)

The End of part 1.

My impression is of a keen, bubbly lady who enjoys the socialising but also has some interesting observations to make. I have to say that her Day 1 posts don’t strike me as particularly Cult-ish, but then (as some have seen) I’m hardly the most perceptive person in the world.

I’ll work on the rest of her posts Overnight and put them up sometime Monday evening BST.

As promised

Vote: MadTheSwine

I’m back and forth on whether he’s scum, a secret role, or genuinely believed this “act scummy to catch scum!” would be fruitful. I just can’t not vote for someone who has acted this scummy.

If Mad is in fact town, it’s unfortunate that we’ve wasted a day. I’ll remain hopeful we have caught scum, though. I’ve had misgivings about Mad in fact being the breadcrumb, but I can’t ignore today’s actions.

Mad has one of 3 possible roles, and I guess I’ll wait to find out which one he is before trying to glean anything from today.

Wheew…made it back in time and Day is still going on. So even though I was on the verge of passing out in this heat, bikeriding and threatening my health…at least I made in back in time!

(never live in Arizona, it sucks).

I see I’m not the only one in being totally confused by MadthePiggy. Is anybody not?

I don’t know what his motives are but he says here in this post, his “plan” of sorts. The first thing that gets me is why he’d say this. It makes no sense. Because by then, not even half the players have voted so if that WAS his plan, any possible scum reading that and not having cast a vote yet would probably do so for him just to prove him wrong, wouldn’t they? It sort of defeats the purpose of a plan when you tell everyone what that plan is early. Kinda like the bad guy outlining his master scheme to James Bond so that when you KNOW James Bond will get away he can then use it to his advantage.

So that kinda makes me doubt his motives and honesty…although, and this is interesting, it still seems too out there and weird to be actual scum.

Even my first post after he revealed that, here I start to feel the first baby nigglings of doubt by saying it could be one of those things that sound so amazingly preposterous that it could be true.

I think what really got to me, at least, was THIS POST, which reminded me and hit me strong all the reasons I had found Pleonast scummy to begin with and Four Days of building up and then some and looked back toDay to find he WAS one of them voting on a one off vote at the time (which apparently was Mad’s “plan” if you’re following along.
And then, the cream on the top of the cake was finally this post by Pleonast where he does it again. Casts a vote today, even though Mad acheived the needed amount TWO votes before his (so like it would make a difference, therefore. This isn’t scummy in itself, but it’d be a great hiding place for one).

Yeah, that did it for me.

And it’s who, at least to me, I’ll be looking at hard again if I live through the Night.

That being said, the Day isn’t over YET, people. If we’re looking at a futile Mad dunking, why not talk about other things in the meantime, like who all everyone is suspcious of at the moment?

Me, Pleo and Mad top the list, followed (although not near by any means) by Hockey still (who I don’t know what to think of, but it’s raised) and, nearing the end of it, Mal is still hanging on. I also light suspicions of Diggit which is based on seemingly trying to take something that a lot of people do in every game and making it seem like a scummy thing to do, but that’s not grown any since.

Forgot to add this:

So therefore, it really seems like he WANTS people to vote for him…even hoping they do by “revealing” his plan. Because really, what does saying what his “plan” is hope to accomplish? I’d think it’d just make everyone (including any scum who may have not voted yet) want to vote for him and pile on. It’s like, even putting his plan out there is trying to get votes, and THAT is what is finally making me think, if he’s scum, and the Avatar, that wouldn’t work because he wouldn’t KNOW he was the Avatar…so maybe he’s town and either an Avatar like role or another special one which kills off people voting for him.

And yeah, I see and know he’s denying it and claiming not to know. :stuck_out_tongue: Of course he would if he was it. I would too. You think he (or anyone) would be dumb enough to go “Oh yeah, actually I am a role that will kill off someone if I get killed off!”

I have a role I’ve used in my games (in fact, it’ll be in VI!) that’s called the Crazy Townie and it’s been my experience that it’s never good to admit you’re that because then nobody ever wants to vote for you and the real scum never want to vote you off at Night so the power is basically wasted (although one does get to stay in the game for the whole run. Maybe that’s a decent trade off–anyway, I’m way off topic now).

So yeah, I remain dubious and cautious at it.

It sounds oddly like I channeled that role in M3, even though it wasn’t officially assigned to me.

Ok, enough with the jokes. It’s Friday, and my vote is in. I’m feeling surly.

By my clock, twenty three minutes remain of Day Four.

If I have kept my notes correctly, Nava is the only player who hasn’t voted. MHaye abstained. I plan to do work-ups of both of them during the Night and post them Tomorrow. I really don’t like the idea of voting for someone solely for lack of participation, but when they don’t participate you don’t have anything else to go on! This is only my second game, so how do you more experienced players handle this kind of issue?

I think I object (mildly) to being categorised as “non-participating.”

I thought hard about my vote. In the end I decided that any vote I might make was utterly meaningless. I’m not voting for Mad and could find no reasonable grounds for suspicion on anyone else arising out of Today (having had all my suspicions that I’d picked up on in previous Days countered).

What am I supposed to do? Place a random vote? I’m convinced that random voting is just wrong.

That said, go ahead and do a workup. I have nothing to hide. Just please don’t label me a non-participant.

Non-participant! Humph!

MHaye - if you get killed toNight, you haven’t left the town anything to work with concerning your suspicions. No vote is meaningless; it tells us who you think we should look at. I can understand not wanting to place a vote on someone you’re not sure of when the vote could result in that person getting dunked, but when there is only a tiny chance that could happen the vote still gives us information when you are gone.

Unless your intent is not to leave information when you are gone?

Sorry, took longer than I thought. I also forgot to send my vote spreadsheet home, so I’ll have to post that later, but after scanning the thread, I didn’t see the necessary swing in votes. Upcoming Night…

The town had entered the Day in shock, not only at the loss of such a long lived, though bizarre, citizen like Hal Briston, but also at the loss of the Oracle. Quickly, citizens began scouring his indeciperable notes on what his readings may have been, others reviewed the records of the proceedings at the temple, but few were convinced of what the wise Oracle really did know for sure. Maybe he trusted sachertorte? Maybe he had discovered that MadTheSwine wasn’t a follower of Nairu?

While some souls pushed that Hal Briston really knew only that a few people were truly believers, it seemed that mob wasn’t interested in finding other Nairuvians, it was only interested in blood, and this potential knowledge of the late Oracle was far too convenient of an opportunity. And soon, the trial of MadTheSwine became the only topic of the town.

Now, MadTheSwine… an interesting fellow. His slightly upturned nose and round rosy cheeks, and portly shape, he wasn’t much of a looker. With a personality to boot–he’d always been a bit of a loose cannon–his name was fitting. Still, he somehow always had the accompaniment of lady friends. Some rumors had it that he had used to be a glorious captain who had explored the Great Sea and saved many-a-sailor from vicious Sekhamite pirates. Others had it that he had in fact only used that as a ruse to cover his own piracy. Ah… but those are stories for another time.

Perhaps it was those old stories of his old heroic sea-faring days. Or perhaps it was his dashing good looks and suave persona. Regardless, he’d quickly gained the favor of virtually every citizen, and faced the same fate of Mtgman, Kat, and Scuba_Ben before him. He struggled only briefly against the restraints as he was led up the stairs and, allowed a last word, he rambled about how his death would be the demise of the Sekhamite cult. As his time had more than expired, the executioner casually pushed him, mid-tirade, into the blessed waters.

An ear piercing squeal filled the temple as his arms flailed wildly–odd that a former sea captain didn’t have better swimming form. At first he seemed to stay afloat, but slowly, and surely, as he tired, he came to sink into the depth of the water. Were his last words spoke true, or merely the ramblings of a mad old pig?

MadTheSwine, a Citizen, has drowned.

The Night will end at 9:30 PM EDT on Sunday as discussed before unless discussion in the thread seems to dictate otherwise (either for it to be shortened, or made it’s full length).

Well, I’m sorry, Mad. ToMorrow we get back to sniffin’ out scum. Tonight we drink!

I’ll drink to that.

Barlady! One glass of finest fermented plum please.

Bah. That went well.

Ah well. I drink to you, Captain Pig!

sprinkles some Bacon Salt on the ground

For our fallen homies…for Captain Pig.

GAH! I had forgotten all about Bacon Salt until now!!! Thanks a lot!! :stuck_out_tongue:
Why oh why does it have to take 1-3 weeks :frowning:

–FCOD

I know I know how could I possibly forget about Bacon Salt. Well it wasn’t easy, dammit!

Do I want to know about this Bacon Salt of which we speak?

Hoists his glass in remembrance of the Iron Pig.
