I actually had to buy f***ing groceries last night with change. Ain’t that a hell of a thing. Especially for a grown man working 12-16 hours days. I just knocked off and am about to go to another job tonight. I’m trying to eat a bite and visit you guys for a minute.
As some of y’all may already know my wife and daughter both have Muscular Dystrophy, so it’s usually pretty tight financially. Although, I can just about always get my hands on some cash. I work in construction and can build or fix just about anything. But my wife can’t work and there is NO insurance for pre-existing conditions when I taught school. I had to go back into construction. So now it’s just paycheck to paycheck.
I have to work for myself because I have to take off several days every month for doctor/hospitals. As far as getting the cash this time, I’m afraid I’m out of luck, had to bounce a check today to keep the lights on. The bank will cover it but that doesn’t make it right in my mind. We found out my wife’s gotta have another surgery next month so there won’t be any money for non-essentials. Maybe later.

I am merely here to ask if someone would do a quick search on ‘bolognese’ and then post some nice links here for me. My pregnant girlfriend has requested I make her this dish. This is strange because normally she wouldn’t touch the stuff and classes it as the poor spiteful daughter of pasta sauces.
We cannot afford the poshness of Dolmio sauce in a jar. Although it probably contains the best of the of bolognese sauce concoctions we feel there may be a slim chance that someone here knows a recipe that could, on a good day maybe be 1/2 as good as that bright red tomatoey God. That God that has almost single handedly erased the usefulness for Italian chefs on this planet. :rolleyes:
I would like to say more but already the candle I write by is sputtering and splattering like a man with consumption in a porridge eating contest. I fear when the light finally dies the wolves outside will become brave enough to make another attack on my poor grandmother who is currently doubling as our front door.

Anyway, here is a recipe from Irish Girl from another thread.
*sadly, i don’t do recipes well. i cook things by chucking things into the pot and seeing how they turn out. the answer is usually that they turn out well.
but here’s some i can sort of give you.
spaghetti bolognese:
1 can plum tomatos,drained, chopped up if you want.
1 small tin tomato puree
garlic
onion
minced beef
vegetables of your choice.
fry garlic, onions, mince in olive oil.
add veggies
add tomato products
add sugar/salt/blackpepper/red wine/worcestershire sauce/tabasco/basil/oregano to taste
simmer till it’s as dry as you like.
serve over pasta
garnish with basil.
for a good thai chilli beef (good enough for my flatmate to make me cook it 4 times in the last 3 weeks)
marinade mince with:
2 chopped chillis,
1/2 and 1/2 mixture of dark and light soy sauces, 3 drops tabasco, 1/2 tsp balsamic vinegar,1 clove of crushed garlic, some coriander.
fry an onion, add beef mixture. stir fry til done. serve over rice.
if you have lea&perrins worcestershire sauce, tabasco, dark & light soy, olive oil, balsamic vinegar, some green and/or red pesto, chillis, sugar and tomatos in your pantry you are limited only by your imagination.
go nuts.
