Don’t be absurd. It’s the slightly more educated regions of Afghanistan that he’s after.
And you would do well to learn reading comprehension. I made the distinction abundantly clear.
Yes it is. “Doth not even nature itself teach you, that, if a man have long hair, it is a shame unto him? But if a woman have long hair, it is a glory to her: for her hair is given her for a covering.” – I Corinthians 11:14, 15.
That’s one of the ways that God intended the sexes to be distinguished from each other.
THIS is why there are so few conservatives on this board.
Time and time again, questions similar to the OP have come up. I make a good-faith effort to answer them honestly and openly; I put considerable time and thought into them. And yet time and time again I am mocked, ridiculed, and slandered. Sometimes I wonder why I bother.
I want to think the best of people. I keep forgetting that very few liberals actually WANT honest discussion; they would much rather have a straw man that they can ridicule and knock down, and then dance around, congratulating themselves on their great victory.
There was NOTHING in my post that makes such responses appropriate. Nowhere did I even hint that I want to see anything like what the radical Muslims are doing. I have reported both your posts for personal insults, but somehow I doubt that any action will be taken.
My Grandmother has this picture of Jesus in the bedroom I used when I slept there. Surely she wasn’t mistaken.
Okay, so dispensing with the sarcasm and ignoring the side-conversation started by Flyer, when WAS the United States great? By what measure do you reach your conclusion (suggestion)?

[li]Heavy saturation of Christianity – like the legendary Witch-Hunting years (1600’s) or the Fundamentalism Fad (1980’s)?[/li][li]Heavy saturation of Nationalism – like the legendary Commie-Hunting years (1950s) or USA 1st astroturf (1980’s)?[/li][li]Astounding gains in the stock market – like the Spring and Summer of 1929 or the 1980s or 2000s?[/li][li]Huge surges in technological advances – like the GPS and Internet booms of the 1990’s?[/li][/ul]
I might go so far as to suggest the USA’s greatest years, culturally, were during the (relative) nadir of Christian hegemony during the late 1960’s, when people were experimenting with variations of African and Far Eastern and other music, literature, and cosmologies, largely because celebrities of the music and movie genre were dabbling in those alternative patterns of thought. Then again, they were dabbling in those alternatives as part of a larger wave of questioning Western paradigms and that wave, in turn, stemmed largely from a widespread question of *Why are we meddling in Viet Nam anyway? *which brings up the grim realities of The Big Red Scare and really hammers home the fact that the US wasn’t so great back then anyway.
Okay, so I’ve managed to kill even my own suggestion.
When and why do YOU think the USA was at its peak?
[CarnivorousPlant, can you elucidate? I’m too young to remember the just-after-WWII years and my school history classes all stopped their timelines at the defeat of Germany without even talking about the veterans returning home. “We won, that’s it; have a nice summer!”]

Ah, but Gary T, to a properly devout Christian there’s either Christianity:) or those variants of Satanism:mad:. That, after all, is Commandment #1

1 Corinthians 11:6
Verse Concepts
For if a woman does not cover her head, let her also have her hair cut off; but if it is disgraceful for a woman to have her hair cut off or her head shaved, let her cover her head.
So apparently yes to at least bonnets.
I must disagree with him. The USSR was great. The Imperium of Man from Warhammer 40K would be great. But they’re not good.
Hmm… “One Corinthians” (sic)
I am no Biblical scholar but there is a lot of debate about what that means. How are you sure you’re right.
The OP was asking Trump supporters, not conservatives. There is some overlap but hardly complete, and even less so if you exclude the people who came around to supporting him but he wasn’t their first choice.
The USA was an economic powerhouse. The returning veterans married and bought houses and cars. Cars made in the USA. Car salesman just called the next guy on the list, and he didn’t ask, “what color?” Refrigerated foods were used during the war, and companies began selling refrigerators hand over hand. During the 1950s and 1960s, radios and TV sets made in the USA. We were an economic and military powerhouse. During the Korean War, Truman told the press, “The (atomic) bomb is always an option.”
Guys filled out job applications. Previous employer? US Army. Reason for leaving previous job? Won war.
Nevermind.
As far back as possible. We’ve been on a steady decline, in terms of morals and personal responsibility, since the end of WW II. I’ll be happy if he gets us back to the relative decadence of the eighties. (the music was better then, too)
There aren’t any here. You’re on the wrong board.
White Christian Male, preferably Anglo-Saxon Protestant on top, everyone else on the bottom serving them. That’s what the reactionaries want.
Not what the rest of us want.
Wrong. Actually, there are a few, but they mostly seem more interested in snarking at the liberals than supporting any coherent position.
You can’t support what you don’t have. ![]()
This is true.
What is not true is that Christianity is the only way to be “good.” This has two flaws: first, many Christians are, themselves, extremely ungood, and second, there are lots of non-Christians who are every bit as good as the best Christians you could ever hope to meet in your life.
Chocolate is good…but it is not the only good. And too much chocolate will make you sick.
I favor and will defend a nation where you are free to be a Christian…but where you are equally free to be something else, instead.
This. Exactly This.
I’ve been thinking about this long hair thing, and I’ve come to the conclusion that this is probably the most realistic thing in the Bible. I can actually picture how this came about. Picture Jesus and his disciples around a table. Jesus speaks “My disciples, I tell you this, our Father is not happy with the way humans obey the commandments. We gave you ten simple instructions, and yet you routinely break them.” A few stuttering gasps around the table. Jesus continues, “However, our Father understands that these commandments are contrary to the very nature of humanity and so very difficult to obey.” A few muttering agreements from the disciples. Jesus goes on, “So, we decided to give you a new, simpler rule to obey. Think of it as a training rule to get you used to following God’s commandments. Now as we all know women are inferior to men, so God has decided to give them a very simple rule to follow. Simply put, they must allow their hair to grow. All a woman needs to do is nothing, just let it grow. Now, for men, it is a little bit more challenging,” various groans around the table as they expect the worst, “Our Father asks that you cut your hair. That’s it. Just cut it. Keep it short. Now do you primitive screwballs think you can manage to get that right at least? Paul, I see you taking notes, make sure to include this in your next letter.”
This is a serious question and deserves a serious answer. A large section of the people are convinced that the US has moved in a retrograde direction for the past few decades. In the realm of economics, this is absolutely true. Think wages vs. productivity in manufacturing. Think the virtual extinction of the one income family a la “Leave it to Beaver” This has had a huge impact on the fortunes of the white working class and both it and the middle class feel extremely insecure. At the same time, there have been positive changes in society, but most who have suffered a decline in their fortunes have not benefited, or at least they don’t perceive it that way. At the same time, the right wing establishment has convinced those who have lost ground that it is the fault of “the other”. This is a tried and true technique. Blame the immigrants. Blame the Jews, Irish, Poles, Italians, and now the Mexicans, etc. It is all the fault of the Communists, socialists, gays, feminists, and so on. When people are scared, these things work.
Those serious about positive social change need to learn from people like Bernie Sanders. He understands this situation in all its complexity. That is why many Trump supporters feel Bernie is on their side, and they are right. He is trying to bring us together and identify the ruling class which has benefited from all the misery and calls on us to unite to resist.
Bernie is doing the Lord’s Work. He deserves your support
