In reference to expecto’s super spot on points about how users perceived to be “hawt chix” get a ridiculous amount of attention–if there were any more concise way to pinpoint the older married white cis/het men, that’s how it’s done. Their lives must be so jejune that any gossamer hint of a way to do something naughty and fourth removed sexxay gets them so in a tizzy they simply can’t restrain themselves. I mean, seriously, grow UP. It’s like they say–when you get to the endzone, act like you’ve been there before. Watching putatively grown ass men act that way is endlessly exhausting. Do better, really.

Its actually racist because there is no reason to include a racial qualifier and men of all races behave the same. And many if not most women like hawt men.
Meanwhile, here’s an opportunity that’s not so readily available in F2F life, a chance to find out what it’s actually like to be a “hawt chick” * or someone perceived as such. I mean, it’s a conversation you can’t really engage in without it looking like a really bad pickup line in person, but if you’re genuinely curious and interested in understanding the experience and relating to the people as people, you can engage in a conversation of that nature here on the board. To get all drooly and creepazoid on them instead just shows that there was never any interest in them as people.

I was talking about my dogs. In many places I’ve connected the evolution of my human brain with that of my stupid dogs. They can’t capitalize.

And as to that. Current poll and a different recent one that Bone pointed me too (should have searched) both show recent numbers 28ish% female, and about 70 to 72% male.
Older threads that CarnalK was kind enough to point me too from 8ish years ago (https://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb...lts&pollid=483 and https://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb...ults&pollid=44) showed 35 to 41% female (one with various options) and male of about 57%.
The position that this board’s population is becoming more male dominated is supported by this data. As to thoughts that this sort of polling data is not really accurate - it may not be but its flaws (biased sampled to those who respond to IMHO polls that may not reflect the population as a whole) apply equally 8 years ago and today. It may not be a perfect representation of the actual percentages but I think we can use it to conclude something real about trending.
So yes, actual data is that there are relatively fewer regular female posters now than there were 8 years ago from 38 +/-3% eight years ago to about 28% now. That is significant as a trend.
Bottomline to others in this thread who like me who just were not seeing it - we are wrong.
Given that information my position flips. And now I ask: what more than “think before posting” as an individual male can I do to help alter that trend, and is there a role for more active moderation on gratuitous sophomoric postings? (Such was not requested in the op.)
My dogs have always capitalized … on my leaving food on the table where they can reach it at least.
Again - that’s a question that is only going to get answered in ATMB, so why not ask it there?
It does not follow that the decline in female membership is the result of “gratuitous sophomoric postings” or anything else being discussed in this thread. As noted earlier, the level of gratuitous sophomoric postings was higher back when female membership was higher, not lower.
The board has changed in other ways, though, per many observers. In particular, membership as a whole has declined, and political partisanship may have increased. These have impacted the dynamic of the board and it’s possible that the board is less appealing to female posters for this reason.
[Of that’s not to speak of any individual female poster, let alone the specific ones posting in this thread.]
