March 15th Primaries (Not-as-Super Tuesday)

I am surprised they haven’t called Florida for Trump yet. He is way ahead.

Can anyone explain how Florida has only 11 times as many GOP delegates as the Northern Mariana Islands, while it has around 4000 times the population?

They won’t make any calls until 8 pm Eastern time - some of the areas in the Panhandle have their polls close an hour later than the rest of the state.

Thanks to The Green Papers, here’s how Republican state delegate counts are determined:

TLDR version, every state gets a certain number of delegates based on the size of their congressional delegation, and extra delegates based on whether the state voted Republican in the last Presidential election, if it has a Republican governor, a Republican state legislature and the number of Republicans it sends to congress.

So call it for Trump already. Panhandle’s Trump country. It’s practically Alabama del Sur.

Florida: The Farther North You Go, The Farther South You Get.

Once again, the Republicans shoot themselves in the foot with their New And Improved Primary and Caucus Rules designed to keep the nutballs down.

Hillary Clinton has a massive lead right now in Florida 66%-31% with over 50% in… that’s going to be a massive delegate haul.

Also the CNN Exit polls showing about 10 point leads for Clinton in both North Carolina and Ohio.

Clinton is way ahead in Florida. I don’t know if that will continue, but she is up 36% with 16% of the vote in.

I do not have cable, but the washington post is the best website I’ve seen to get real time updates on the results for the primaries.

I wonder if today is the day when the Sanders campaign can’t even pretend they can win anymore. It may look like it. We will see.

The tree still falls.

Trump is leading in North Carolina but not by much.

Can anyone explain why the territories even have any delegates, since they have no votes in the EC?

Freaking Ohio… goKasichgoKasichgoKasich…

Ohio is starting to come in and Trump is ahead, probably just briefly.

Huh. Sanders is losing in Alachua county in Florida - at least at the moment. As it’s got the University of Florida there, I’d expected it to swing to him. He’s not getting as hammered, though.

Shrug. They have votes in the convention. There’s a delegation for Democrats Abroad, too. They already had their primary and Bernie won big.

Trump is cleaning Rubio’s clock in Florida. The only area Rubio is winning is Miami.

Kasich just took the lead in Ohio.

Cruz is oh so slowly closing the gap between himself and Trump in North Carolina.

Sanders is losing by 30 points in each state so far. I have no idea how the night will go, but if that continues then this is the end of his campaign. He will still campaign until this primary is over obviously, but it is just going to be for show after tonight.

I am guessing they will call Florida for Trump at any time now as the panhandle polls just closed.

CNN projects Trump and Clinton win Florida. That’s massive for both of them.
