Oh, he did. He’s been saying wretched shit in public for a long time. Not quite “I’m a Nazi!” in public, but take this 2018 quote about Black Panther:
It is absolutely AMAZING to me that people who know so little about their true history and REFUSE to acknowledge the pure sorry state of their current condition can get so excited about a fictional ‘hero’ created by an agnostic Jew and put to film by satanic marxist. How can this trash, that was only created to pull the shekels out of your Schvartze pockets, invoke any pride?
He rose to prominence based on an unhinged gun rant at a Greensboro(?) public comment session. Republicans, giddy at the idea of a Black man who supports their worst trollish impulses, embraced him and helped him rise to state office. His only political advantage is that he’s a hateful troll in the Trump model.
Oh wow, now there’s an AI-generated attack ad on the local channels; apparently, the original intent was to put a voice behind some of the nastier stuff Robinson has written. It’s…something.
Today he had an “incident” at a campaign event and is in the hospital. There is no word yet (as far as I can find) about what the medical issue is, and about how he is doing.
Thoughts and prayers. Well, I don’t pray, and I’ll keep my thoughts to myself.
Whatever medical issues there might be, this could provide an easy out for him to quietly fade into the night, without taking CNN to court and having all that evidence in the public domain. I think I’m okay with that, unless his continued presence in the campaign would turn NC even further blue. I’m not sure what would happen to the governor’s race, which he reportedly had no chance of winning anyway.
Just found a local news story about this. Apparently he’s at a local hospital being treated for burns?
In a statement sent to WXII, his communications directors said “Lieutenant Governor Mark Robinson is currently being treated for burns following an incident at a campaign event in Mount Airy. He is in good spirits.”
Please note this story is based on a statement released by Robinson’s own campaign and I cannot find independent corroboration of this. I wouldn’t want to suggest that this ‘incident’ didn’t actually occur, but wow is this convenient for a nationally disgraced political figure dealing with a massive scandal.
I looked up Mt. Airy; it’s in north-central North Carolina, near the Virginia border, and does not appear to have been affected much by Hurricane Helene’s remnants.
Mount Airy is the birthplace of actor Andy Griffith and is considered the inspiration for the town of Mayberry, NC in the 1960’s sitcom named for Griffith.
There are different festivals/events held there each year inspired by the television series.

It appears the incident happened at a car show. Maybe he ignored one of those DO NOT TOUCH boards, or maybe something tried to go all ‘Christine’ on him.
