On that tangent, I’d like to see another thread or a poll that indicates how many other people in real life do you know of who post here. Relatives, co-workers, customers, whatever.
I have made it a point not to identify this place to others and will refer to it as “a website I visit” or “a chat room” or “a message board.” As a result I wonder how many people would recognize me as Zeldar if I let them know.
Aside from the Dopefests in this area, I can’t think of any people I know in real life (other than my wife) who are regular Dopers. My kids and close friends don’t know by way of my telling them, but I do wonder if stories I have told here that include them by indirect reference, or jokes they have told me, and the like, make them wonder if they “know” me IRL.
A thread or poll to that effect might be fun.
I do that! I’ll occasionally talk about a message board I go to, but I don’t tell people what it’s called. I sometimes wonder whether some of the people I know in real life post here, and occasionally someone on here will say something that makes me wonder if they’re people I know (especially my brother. He would love this place, if he isn’t here already).
My partner doesn’t post here and very rarely reads any of it, and thinks we’re all similarly weird (in a good way, I think).

I did once consider starting the thread “How many Dopers have you had sex with?” but I decided it was in poor taste.
I’m lesbian and live in a state where same-sex unions are illegal; thus, I have no spouse.
I did meet my ex-girlfriend at another board though.
My husband is mostly the same, although I wouldn’t describe him as a “heavy” lurker. He mostly only looks at threads that I send him a link to.
