My sister came over for Thanksgiving. It should be noted that my sister has four cats - two of which are actively destructive (one chews cords, the other, well, she’s a tortie). My parents have two cats. I very kindly let my sister take a nap on the guest bed (where I’m staying) (admittedly mostly to get her off the couch so somebody could actually use it, but that’s neither here nor there). Now, my sister has a necklace that she wears all the time with a large amethyst washer-shaped ring. It’s about the size of a half-dollar.
So she’s dead to the world. The necklace is on the table next to her, which is under the window. The doors are open, which means the cats will go in and out. I believe I had opened the blinds earlier to let the cats sit in the window. To get to the window involves jumping on the bed to the table to the window. Can you guess what ends up happening?
Naturally, at some point the necklace got knocked to the floor. And all our floors are tile. We couldn’t even find all the pieces. And she’s terribly upset and really the only thing I can say is ‘you have cats! How could you not see this coming?!’ She also apparently lost another necklace that weekend. No idea what happened to it. Don’t really care.
This stuff happens all the time because she has no foresight. Back when we lived together (with the four cats), there were all sorts of things she could prevent (like the tortie acting like a tortie), but she wouldn’t.
But I should actually get up and have breakfast and get some stuff done. My room is a disaster area…
What gets me is the insinuation that I somehow brought this whole awful mess on myself by :gasp: having sex! Even Muslims do that, yaknow!!! How exactly do they think people reproduce - we are not living in Aldous Huxley’s Brave New World, thankyewverymuch!
But good Muslims do it only with their spouses, therefore no HPV. You know, same as good Muslims do not steal, therefore if you brought in a video camera and don’t have it anymore it must be because you, the evil Christian (or atheist, or Jew), are a smuggler!
ETA: that’s religious-Jew, not Lunch-Jew, although I don’t think those people give a crap about the distinction.
**Dotty **-- is the insurance company a purely local/Arab affair, or a subsidiary of a world-wide company? If the latter, you can probably raise hell with US/European HQ…
Howdy Y’all! No I didn’t take a tech-free vacation BioRosie. Just, well, I don’t know why, but I didn’t post this mornin’.
So, here I am. Apparently Special1 has been eaten.
It’s so dreary out. Drizzly and ick!
Grilled ham steaks, fried rice and green beans for dindin tonight.
I have a big ol’ pot of peas and butterbeans with ham cookin’ away to take to work tomorrow. We’re havin’ a lunch thingy for my team. Rah. I figured that was easy enough. Cook 'em cool 'em down, put 'em in a crockpot and let ‘em slowly heat up tomorrow mornin’. I could do without the whole thing [scrooge] BAH! HUMBUG![/scrooge] but gotta be a team player and all that there stuff.
Dotty surely there is a way that can be contested. That is ridiculous!
I completely agree. Just that health care is at the top of everyone’s minds over here right now, and I’ve been having email debates about health care and reproductive issues with my religiously conservative aunt. She doesn’t think that teens should be taught about safe sex in school. Despite the fact that 30+ years ago she had a child while not married.  So she knows that unprotected sex happens. So how can… nevermind. I’m getting angry again and it’s just not worth it.
Tonight was sketties night - muy yummo!! Plus french bread with butter. Very stuffded, I am.
**FCD **is home. He got the info he needed on 3 different ships in Norfolk, and the antenna uninstallation they were going to do today was canceled, so he came home early. Once I got here, we hung all the prints we got framed. I wish I’d picked different mats for 2 of them, but they still look good, and I’m thrilled to have them all hanging after all these years.
**kopek **- I finally looked at the website - what a cool park!!! And I got to thinking - my mom lives north of Baltimore, and my bro is north of Balto, too, just off I-83. I may be able to work something out. When is this opening day you speak of?
Going into big, bad DC tomorrow for a meeting. I was going to have to drive myself, but my team lead decided she’d go, so she’s driving. Yay!!
Scruffy is whining - guess I better take her out before she waters the carpet…
Oh yeah, new MMP. I was wondering why I wasn’t getting any emails from SDMB yesterday. :smack:
Sad news, everybody. Former Co-worker died this morning. Now I know someone who’s died of the flu. He deserved so much better.
In other work-related news, I’m pissed at every other person who works the front desk except Night Audit Lady. Bunch of slackers, all of them. I’m the only one who works. On the other hand, my German work ethic has made me quite a hit with TPTB.
{{{{Spaz}}}}, so sorry about your Former Co-Worker.
Rosie, I saw your group on NBC last night and am crossing my fingers for them tonight! All the groups sounded pretty good, btw.
Hope you can get that health insurance straightened out to pay for your treatments, Dotty, their reasoning is very suspect, at best.
I didn’t get home until after 6 pm tonight - I overslept this morning and got to work late, so had to stay to make up. I don’t like being out as a pedestrian after dark, it’s so dangerous! The later that you leave, though, the more traffic you encounter. But thank goodness I -am- home and am getting ready to have dinner, woo hoo! Which is some type of fish … hehe, not so woo hoo cause I don’t really care for fish very much (cept tuna, which I lurve LOL). Ah well, at least I have something to eat, eh? Gotta be thankful for what I have.
Went shopping, came home. Still dunno what I’m having for dinner though. Got my package of Apple goodies in the mail: Bluetooth keyboard, aluminum remote, and the Magic Mouse. The latter takes some getting used to. It’s very thin. It’s like navigating with an iced biscotti. The multitouch is cool though.
Jews for lunch? Just jews? What kind? Orange? Apple? No sandwiches or anything?
Sorry about your former co-worker, Spaz. That’s so sad.
I don’t get the failure to childproof thing, either. Not when they have grandchildren. I childproofed as soon as my brother and SIL moved to Ohio. Nothing fancy, just some common sense stuff to keep niece (and, later, nephew) safe and keep me from being frustrated when they got too energetic. Seemed like an easy enough thing to do.
That’s awful, Dotty. What a stupid set of services to exclude.
And, I agree, religion doesn’t have any business getting mixed up in anything government-related or secular-institution-related. Makes me crazy, too.
Also, I forgot to comment on ruble’s Dopefest suggestion. I’ll bet you’ll find a lot of Dopers who would be excited to participate.
Sorry about your work exile from the Dope, Rebo.
Need to get started putting Christmas cards together. Really don’t feel like it, but I really need to get them done.
Folks ------- I have this bad mental image of Anita Bryantt (sic?) doing the commercial with Noone as this little blue and white bird. Pardon me while I go scrub that out of my brain.
