Just finished it this morning. All in all it was pretty good. The animation was great as usual, and the stand-in voices were fine where the original wasn’t present (like for Black Widow). I’d be happy with many more seasons of it if they keep up the quality.
Not as much of an overall story, but I didn’t mind. And I could stand for more noir Karen Gillan.
There were none I didn’t enjoy, and quite a few highlights like the Christmas party, Tony on Sakaar, Carter and Black Widow up against the Hydra Stomper, Cate Blanchett’s return as Hela and the finale.
The complaints I’ve seen about this season are hilarious - they just re-tell the movies, they parody other movies, they just follow the comics people have already read, they don’t follow the comics closely enough, and gosh darn it where did all these women come from?
And Kahori seems like a fun new character. Interestingly, the Space Stone seems to be the one whose energy gives people powers. The poor old Power Stone never gets any fun.
I liked S1 and S2. I like Peggy Carter. I do hope for S3, should it get made, that she maybe sit it out or be a little less prominent. There are so many people and situations that it’s less compelling it’s always the same few. Oh, and Dr Strange.
Less Peggy, less Dr Strange. Not that I didn’t enjoy them, but yeah, Spider-man, Jessica Jones, Colson, Mantis, etc etc. So many people not in it at all or barely in a couple. It’d be a little better if the seasons were longer or more frequent. Waiting 2 whole years + for 9 more episodes and it’s heavy in the same people was kind of unimpressive, even though I liked it and would watch S3 if it did the same thing again. My preference is a little more variety, but sameness done well is enough to keep me watching
I think the Sony contract about Spider-man is so tight they’ve hesitant to use him much. And maybe they’ll bring out Daredevil and the rest on TV before getting them into the What If… stuff. I wonder how they choose what ideas to use before setting up the larger story?
…for context, season two started production way back in 2019, and the scripts were written between January and October 2020, during Covid. And we’ve already seen a long segment from a season three episode, so much of that is locked in as well.
This show has basically been locked in for a very long time. A lot of casting was a matter of economics and logistics, so I wouldn’t expect much variation going forward. And with A.C. Bradley (the showrunner) moving on after Season 3, and with a big revamp coming after a disappointing year for Marvel, this is probably the end of the line for this show. Which is a shame, because both this and the Marvels were two of my favourite MCU things I’ve seen in a long time.
A podcast I follow noted that everything is set pre-Endgame. It’s like the “greatest hits.” I get that it’s locked in as you say, but still disappointing.
The reality stone gave the dark elves from Thor 2 powers. And it was the mind stone that powered Wanda, Quicksilver and Vision. The power stone sorta powered Ronan, he just couldn’t touch it.
There’s a Season 3 out. Looks like all eight episodes are now available.
I’ve watched the first four. Each episode so far has had a very different style. For me, they’re well worth the time to watch. I love seeing the different takes on the regular characters.
Finished watching Season 3. The finale has beautiful art direction. I’m not sure what the future plans for the series is, but it felt like a series finale.
I feel like it turned more into a Captain Carter show than anything else. It was fun, and i enjoyed it… but I would have liked to see other things explored.
