Is it just me, or does the commercial for this movie annoy the hell out of anyone else? I have no idea if the movie is any good, and don’t plan to see it, but I will be glad when its run is over so that the commercial is off the air.
“Turtle, turtle, turtle”
Believe me, that won’t take long.
Is anyone else freaked out by that “Turtle” scene?
Turtle, turtle, turtle…
Somebody shoot him!
Hey… aren’t previews supposed to make me want to watch the movie rather than hit the actors with something very large and blunt?
That’s the only part of the preview I liked! <slinks off sheepishly>
Well, I must say…he does look like a turtle.
I think Master of Disguise is meant as a tribute to Peter Sellers, who died 24 July 1980. Remember those disguises from the Pink Panther movies?
I couldn’t have been sadder the first time I saw the preview for this movie. Makes me wonder why Dana Carvey didn’t fire his agent years ago. Have any of you ever seen his old HBO standup comedy special? Some of the funniest standup I’ve ever seen – Dana Carvey is an absolutely hysterical human being. And he’s been in some of the worst movies ever made.
His agent needs to be flayed alive. And Dana along with him, for agreeing to this ‘Master of Disguise’ turdpile.
I love Dana Carvey. When I saw the preview for Master of Disguise I wailed, “Why, Dana, why?!?!?” Ok, I didn’t so much wail as I thought it, but you get the point.
Lately, the commercials have had some tie-in with Nickelodeon and I see it’s rated PG. I guess it’s supposed to be a kid-friendly flick.
I hate to say it but I’ll take my Dana Carvey any way I can get 'im. I’ll be paying money to see this flick.
If you need to blame someone, blame Mr. Carvey himself. He’s one of the writers, along with Harris Goldberg who also co-wrote Deuce Bigalow. Might as well blame Adam Sandler while you’re at it, it’s from his production company.
If that’s the case then, Jeff, flaying’s too good for either of 'em.
Smithers, release the hounds.
I always thought Dana Carvey would have made a great third lead member of Spinal Tap.
Let’s see…so far, from what we’ve seen in the ads, Dana disguises himself as a middle eastern man, a turtle, a wealthy socialite type, and my personal favorite, a karate-flippin’ George Dubya.
“Am I not turtley enough for the Turtle Club? Turtle! Turtle!”
The New York Daily News reports today that Carvey wanted to do a family friendly film. “I was trying to make a funny, live-action PG film. A lot of [kid’s] films have been stupid and patronizing. I know, because I’ve seen them all with my kids.” He remembered the Pink Panther films which he saw with his “mom, dad and [siblings], and we all laughed.” (I guess you were right, Jeff Olsen. “I’m tired of gross, meanspirited blue humor. When you go to crude jokes, you don’t exercise other aspects of your comedy.”
I for one, salute Dana’s idea. One can be funny without being dirty.
Ideals are one thing. Execution another.
It helps, however, to actually be funny while not being dirty.
Man, I was all ready to wail into Dana when I saw this thread. He stopped being funny to me years ago. Not that he’s incapable or anything, but his post SNL stand up rehashed a lot of his (surprise!) SNL impersonations. Yeah, he can be funny, but I quickly found him tiresome.
After reading up a bit, I agree that his intentions are admirable. The target audience makes a hell of a lot more sense. And I must confess, my two boys seem pretty interested in seeing this…
So, maybe I’ll take them & just keep my mouth shut. Let 'em have their fun. Can’t possibly be worse than those damn Honey I Shrunk/Blew Up/Ate/Killed/Disemboweled The Kids movies.
I hope this movie comes and goes quickly, it looks really stupid.
I wondered if this was a SNL movie, it would be about their speed.
I have too wonder why a script was written, how this got funding
(they could have given the money to me, I could have spent it better), and who turned down this movie before Dana Carvey took it.
I loved Dana Carvey on SNL, and was hoping he would be BIG like Mike Myers, but alas No.
Don’t forget - the ads will reappear when it gets released on video.
Well, I think that it goes into release next week. Hopefully, someone will post their opinions of the movie. I know I can’t wait !
Personally, the Turtle scene is what makes me want to see this film. Not so much the “Turtle, Turlte” bit, but that shot of him just going “Whaaaoooaaooaa” while his “shell” moves around. It’s stupid, yes, but for some reason, I just can’t look away.
None of Carvey’s movies have been all that great, but they’ve all been pretty fun. And I agree, there needs to be more kids movies put out nowadays that aren’t just shit, because face it, adults have to see them too thanks to the kids. I don’t know about the rest of the movie, but it should still be fun, and for a guy like that coming back from such a long break, he needs to do something fun so he can start up again.
But it seems to be a new trend with comedians, it seems. Look at Eddie Murphy and Bill Murry. At first, all their movies were pretty much rated R due to their lewd and crude and really fucking funny humor. Now, pretty much everything they do when it comes to comedy is rated PG or so. They’re not focused on a much younger audience. Perhaps as you get older, you just want to do more kiddy stuff to help keep from feeling old. Who knows? It should still be fun, if not mindless.
