Matt Damon is Captain Kirk!

I have seen most of those films, and Hollywoodland, and King Kong besides.

I also saw Brody on stage at the Oscars.

Brody just does not have “command presence,” which Spock must have.

Huh. Didn’t see this thread until just now.

I really like Sinise–really I can’t think of a better choice for a young McCoy. As for the rest…I think I’ll withhold judgment. I’ve thought for a while now that Trek needs regular reboots, like they do in the comic book world. Just withhold the essentials, toss out the 40 years of baggage and take a fresh look regularly.

This might be pretty okay.

I disagree—Spock will be the easiest to replace. Practically every actor who’s ever appeared on Star Trek from TNG onwards as a Vulcan has essentially emulated Nimoy’s performance. Tuvok from Voyager may as well have been Spock himself.

True enough. Not only is he quite a few years younger than them, but he looks it, too. Such lovely skin… Where was I? Oh, yeah. Dangit, now I want my Quinto-Spock. With younger actors (or at least younger looking) he could probably pull it off, but he’d look like a kid compared to Matt Damon and Gary Sinise, even if he’s only thirty to Damon’s 36. He is closer to the age I’d expected them for this film, though. Not Academy aged (pleasegodno) but just pre-show.

Dangit. Now that I have Quinto in my head I’m trying to cast the movie around him instead of dealing with the actual rumors about casting.

Young McCoy? Gary Sinise is 52 years old. DeForest Kelley was only 46 when he began playing McCoy.

I agree, though, that Sinise is right for that part.

I think Brad Pitt would be good for the role. My respect for him as an actor has grown over time. He always seems to rise to the part.

Brad Pitt is also getting a little long in the tooth for the part (44 this year), particularly if they anticipate sequels (as they surely must).

Heh. Brain fart. I still have this mental image of Sinise pre-Stand that I can’t get rid of.

He was 203 when he died of Bendii syndrome, a degenerative neurological disease which ISTR Picard saying “affects mainly Vulcan men over 200 years old.”

That’s according to Wikipedia. I’m not saying your math is wrong (or Wikipedia’s, for that matter); I blame Trek canon.

wow! was I getting ahead of myself or what!

Could we then start a letter writing campaign to have Quinto replace Brody?

“He’s dead , Jim!”

(Chewing gum) “Huh?”

“It’s not your fault.”

“Yeah Bones I… know.”

“It’s not your fault.”

“Shut… up Bones.”

“It’s not your fault.”

“Stop… saying that.”

“It’s not your fault.”

“Bones, you’re… fired.”

I, too, have a great respect for Brad Pitt as an actor. I think he will take home an Academy Award some day, probably after his looks fade a little more and he starts getting taken more seriously.

and

, are those related somehow? :stuck_out_tongue:

I would suspect that the Ripped Shirt is concerned with both.

I had thought of Purefoy as Spock, but dismissed him as “too old” for this particular movie. I know Sinise is over 50, but Bones is supposed to be quite bit older than Kirk, right? How their ages compare to Spock’s, I couldn’t say.

Livingston is a great suggestion for Spock … I totally missed him. He’s only a few years younger than Purefoy, but looks a good 5-10 years younger on screen. Livingston seems to me to have the right look … great eyebrows

If they were looking to go really young, I think Shia LaBouef (Holes, Transformers) has the right look for Spock. Whether or not he has (or needs) the gravitas and chops, I’m not sure.

Damn, forget Shia – Zach Quinto needs to get any young Spock roles. Good call … don’t watch Heroes, and I didn’t know about him.

Ron Livingston does have the Vulcan thing going, though

Alan Ruck might make a good Spock, but I don’t know if he is the right age anymore…

I dunno, he’s maybe a little too pretty.

I’d choose Jonathon Schaech. He’s got the dark intensity, strong nose and striking jaw.

I’ve said it befor and I’ll say it again. Adrian Brody sucks Wombat ass.

And Spock should be played Jude Law.

“What does it mean, captain? It is illogical to ‘have a case of the Mondays.’”
